Drone roof survey in Sun Rising

We carry out drone roof surveys in Sun Rising and across London and South East England, where the airspace and the weather allow. Flights take place on weekdays and at weekends. Every address is checked for airspace restrictions first. The report includes the drone photos and our recommendations. To ask whether a drone survey suits your roof, phone 07833 053749 or email us with the address. If you’ve noticed damage after a storm that can’t be seen from below and blistered or cracked flat roof coverings, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.

Somewhere as small as Sun Rising, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you cannot get from the ground. Weather and airspace are checked before the visit, and the journey is planned beforehand. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.

We keep jargon out of it: if work is needed, the report says so clearly, and where it can wait, that’s said too.

For landlords and managing agents

Freeholders and residents’ companies use a roof report to plan and budget.

Businesses and commercial landlords can book us too. Bigger roofs take more time, so they’re priced to suit.

Should I look at the roof myself first?

A lot can be seen from ground level. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please do not climb up for a closer look.

The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and a fall can be serious. That’s where a survey comes in, using safe viewpoints and a drone where applicable.

The survey, step by step

We photograph the roof as we go, so you can see in the report what we found and where. Close-ups come from the safest viewpoint available, including by drone where it is applicable and the weather allows. A typical visit takes an hour or two at most homes, and more on a big or complicated roof. Older rural homes like those around Sun Rising can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. Each part is looked at from wherever it can safely be seen.

  1. You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
  2. If permission is needed, we ask for it before the visit.
  3. Before the flight, we check the conditions and the take-off spot.
  4. The sub-250g drone takes close-up photographs of the roof, kept in sight throughout.
  5. Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos and recommendations.

Preparing for the visit

  • Keep pets out of the way during the survey
  • Unlock side gates and any roof access doors
  • For flats, make sure roof access has been agreed

Flying and imaging in Sun Rising

Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight. West Oxfordshire’s older buildings often carry Cotswold stone slates, and a few villages in the county keep their thatch. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these.

How the survey changes by roof type

Large commercial roofs

Large commercial roofs cover a lot of ground. The drone covers the roof area by area, so nothing is skipped.

Valleys and parapet gutters

Valleys and parapet gutters are hidden from the street. A drone shows linings, joints and build-ups of debris.

Questions from Sun Rising

How do I find out if my home in Sun Rising is listed?

For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.

Is Sun Rising within the area you cover?

We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house, with the route planned beforehand.

What if it is windy or raining on the day?

Strong wind or heavy rain stops a flight. Whether we can fly depends on the conditions on the day. If we can’t fly, we will arrange another day or inspect by other means.

How long have you been surveying roofs?

We’ve been surveying roofs for over 20 years and have completed over 5,000 surveys across London and the South East.

How soon will I get the report?

It depends on the package: the Basic Survey report arrives within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey the same day. The report is emailed to you.

Are you structural engineers?

No. We’re experienced roof surveyors, and visible signs such as sagging are noted, but calculations and an engineer’s opinion are outside what we do. If one is needed, the report says so.

What happens after the survey?

We email you the written report with photographs and recommendations. You can use it to talk to a seller, an insurer, a roofer or a managing agent, whichever applies.

Do you need a drone roof survey in Sun Rising?

Chimney tops take the worst of the weather. Cracked flaunching, loose pots and eroded pointing are often invisible from below. A drone gets close enough to see them in detail.

Look out for signs like these:

  • Ridge pieces that have lifted
  • Coverings that have slipped high up on the roof
  • Moss building up on slopes and in gutters
  • Chimney tops in poor condition

Around Sun Rising, as everywhere, small roof faults are simplest to sort before they let water in.
