How a drone roof survey works in Tourner Bury
A drone shows the outside of a roof very well, but it can’t see under the coverings or into the loft. We check the loft from inside where it is safe, because the underside tells its own story. Inside and out together tell you far more. Your report shows the drone photos alongside what we saw in the loft. Where the loft can’t be reached safely, we note it. We survey tall and steep roofs, flat roofs on upper floors and valleys and parapet gutters, and common reasons people get in touch are chimney tops in poor condition and loose ridge and hip tiles.
Villages like Tourner Bury often stand in open country, where wind can be strong. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.
The Standard Survey adds moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

Landlords, agents and block managers in Tourner Bury
Shared roofs need a little more planning: we need access agreed with the building owner or managing agent. Mention it when you get in touch and we’ll plan the survey around it.
For a freeholder or residents’ company, a roof report is a sound basis for a maintenance plan.

Practical tips
Some practical points come up on survey after survey. They’re worth knowing whatever the roof:
- Keep a clear space in the garden or drive for take-off
- Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
- Move stored items away from the hatch
- Keep pets indoors during the flight
You get an in-person consultation with the Premium Survey to talk through the photos and findings. It is a chance to ask about anything in the report.
Keep the roof space ventilated. Poor airflow lets condensation build up, and it is something only an inside check will show. Keep insulation clear of the eaves.
Prices for drone roof surveys in Tourner Bury
Not every roof costs the same to survey, for these reasons:
- The height of the building and how the roof can be seen safely
- Commercial roofs and larger buildings
- How many separate roofs there are, like extensions, dormers and garages
- How big the roof is
What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how safely it can be seen. Prices start from £400, including VAT.

If you can, have these to hand when you contact us:

- The reason for the survey, like buying, a leak or storm damage
- What kind of property and roof it is

What happens on the day
Time on site depends on the size and shape of the roof, but as a rough guide the survey takes an hour or two at most homes, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. You are welcome to ask questions while we’re there. For a village or hamlet like Tourner Bury, the journey is planned in advance: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. The roof is looked at from ground level, from windows, from the loft where there is safe access and from the roof where it’s safe.
- You give us the address and let us know about the roof.
- Any flight restriction at the address is looked at, with permission requested if required.
- Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are checked.
- The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
- We email the report with close-up photos and recommendations.
Before we arrive
- Make sure the loft hatch can be reached
- Let us know about parking near the property
- If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building

Advice
When to book a survey in Tourner Bury
Hidden gutters and valleys are easy to overlook. Debris collects where nobody looks, until water overflows inside. From above, they’re easy to see.
Signs worth acting on include:
- Ridge pieces that have lifted
- Ponding and splits on a high flat roof
- Debris building up in hidden gutters
- Eroded pointing on a chimney stack
If you live in an older home near St Mary's Church, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof frequently shows up clearly on a thermal image.
Before booking anyone
- Whether the inside of the roof is included
- How much experience they have with roofs like yours
- Their insurance cover
- How soon the report will arrive
Flying and imaging in Tourner Bury
Tourner Bury is within about 1 mile of the coast, and wind near the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain. Some Hampshire villages still have thatched roofs. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. Many roofs like these can’t be judged properly from the pavement, and that’s where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place.
Warblington Castle, about 3.5 miles north, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Tourner Bury. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from the ground, and a survey from above or with a thermal imager doesn’t touch the roof itself. If you look after a building such as Mengham Junior School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

Tourner Bury: your questions answered
Is my home in Tourner Bury listed or in a conservation area?
You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it is in a conservation area. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.
Is Tourner Bury within the area you cover?
Yes, Tourner Bury is on our map. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house.
Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?
Yes, once whoever controls the roof agrees access. On a shared roof we can only inspect the parts we are allowed to reach, and the report makes that clear.
Do you test for asbestos?
No. We can flag materials that might contain asbestos, but confirming it is a job for a specialist asbestos surveyor. It may be present in buildings built or refurbished before 2000.
Does the drone show the underside of the roof?
No. The drone sees the roof from outside only. The roof space is checked separately, where there’s safe access.
How quickly is the report sent?
That depends on the survey you book: the Basic Survey report arrives within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey the same day. The report is emailed to you.
How many surveys have you done?
We have been surveying roofs for over 20 years and have completed over 5,000 surveys.
Different roofs, different checks
Chimney stacks
From the air, a lean or a loose pot is easy to see. Each defect is photographed for the report.
Ridges and hips
Ridges and hips are the most exposed parts of a pitched roof. From above, we can see loose ridges and missing mortar.
