Drone roof survey in West Horsley

The weather decides whether a drone can fly. We don’t fly in strong wind or heavy rain, because the drone has to stay safely under control. If the day turns out unsuitable, we’ll talk about another date. We check the forecast before the visit and again on site. Calm, dry conditions give the sharpest close-up photos. Waiting for a better day is better than a rushed flight. If you’ve noticed worn lead at chimneys and walls and ponding and splits on a high flat roof, we can find out what’s behind it.

Older cottages and houses around West Horsley may have little insulation, and some have extensions with their own roofs. A thermal image can show where heat is escaping or where moisture may be trapped, and drone photos show the roof surfaces themselves. Anything that looks like moisture is checked with a meter. Calm, dry weather suits both methods, so the date is set with the forecast in mind.

We keep jargon out of it: where something needs attention, it says so plainly, and where it can wait, that’s said too.

Do you need a drone roof survey in West Horsley?

Strong winds can lift slates, tiles and ridge pieces. Damage on a high or steep roof is hard to judge from the garden. Close-up photos make it clear what has been disturbed.

We’re frequently asked to look at:

  • Ridge pieces that have lifted
  • Slipped or missing slates on a high roof
  • Eroded pointing on a chimney stack
  • Plant growth and moss on the roof

Historic houses such as Hatchlands Park, about 1.6 miles south-west, show how far back building around West Horsley goes. Aerial photos and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it.

What a good roof survey covers

What a survey costs

Prices vary from roof to roof, and it comes down to:

  • Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
  • Height and safe access
  • The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium
  • How big the roof is

We offer three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all with VAT included. What your roof costs depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.

Helping us price your survey

Before you get in touch, it helps to have:

  • Your timetable, such as an exchange date
  • Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
  • Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof
  • The kind of building and roof involved

If you have photos of the roof, send them over. Take them safely from ground level or a window; never climb up to get a better view. To send them or to book, call 07833 053749 or email us.

Flying and imaging in West Horsley

The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.

If your home is one of the older ones in the streets near Church of St Mary the Virgin, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that’s where a view by drone or thermal camera helps. Take a building like The Raleigh School: big roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images show the most at once.

Questions from West Horsley

Do you cover smaller places like West Horsley?

Yes, West Horsley is covered. Our area covers London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. Longer journeys are simply planned beforehand.

Is drone flying allowed in West Horsley?

It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

How long does the survey take?

That depends on the size and shape of the roof; most visits take about 1–2 hours on an ordinary house, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. The written report follows by email.

Do I have to be there for the survey?

Not always. If we only need the outside, we can agree that ahead of time, but the loft and any rooms with damp need someone to let us in.

Will you check the loft?

If the survey needs it and the roof space can be reached safely, yes. A clear path to the hatch helps.

How fast do I get the report?

That depends on the survey you book: the Basic Survey report arrives within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey the same day. Reports are sent by email.

How much is a survey?

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. What you pay for your roof depends on its size, height, access and the package, and it is agreed before booking.

How it works

The aim of the visit is simple: to look at the roof as closely as is safe and record what we find. Everything we note and photograph goes into the written report. It typically takes about 1–2 hours for most houses, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. A visit to West Horsley is planned like any other: the time, the access and where to park are agreed beforehand. Weekday and weekend visits are both possible. If there are outbuildings or garages you want looked at, mention them.

  1. First comes the address, plus a note of what worries you about the roof.
  2. Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
  3. Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are looked at.
  4. The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
  5. The findings, photos and recommendations reach you by email.

Before we arrive

  • If it is not your property yet, arrange access through the agent
  • Make sure pets are kept safely away
  • Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed

Related advice

Should I look at the roof myself first?

If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.

Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground, and those are details a survey looks at closely.

Useful tips for West Horsley property owners

Small things make a difference. Our tips:

  • Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too
  • Shut pets inside while we fly
  • Let us know what you want to see
  • Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared

With the Premium Survey, the report arrives the same day. It includes the drone photos where a flight was possible.

Have leaves and moss cleared from gutters, valleys and outlets, especially in autumn. On high roofs, leave clearing to a professional. Blocked hidden gutters cause many leaks.

Ridges and hips

Ridges may be bedded in mortar or mechanically fixed. We record what we see of their condition.

Large commercial roofs

Large commercial roofs cover a lot of ground. The drone covers the roof area by area.
