Castle Hill Electronic Leak Detection
Need electronic leak detection in Castle Hill? We can help, with a written report you can act on. Weekday and weekend visits available.
- Stains far from any visible defect
- Failed seams and laps
- Water coming in under a flat roof
How the survey works
The visit has one job: to see as much of the flat roof membrane as can safely be seen and record it clearly. Everything we note and photograph goes into the written report. The visit typically takes more time on a big roof than a small one, with the construction of the roof playing a part too. Around Castle Hill, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so let us know about the loft hatch and any ladder. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.
- We start by finding out what the roof is made of and where it leaks.
- We check that the membrane and build-up suit electronic leak detection.
- The method depends on the membrane and what sits above and below it.
- Testing runs across the roof to locate breaches in the membrane.
- We send a report with photos of each breach so your roofer can repair it.

About our electronic leak detection in Castle Hill
Green roofs, ballasted roofs and roofs under paving are harder to test. What sits on the membrane can affect which method will work and parts may need to be lifted. We talk this through before we quote. Drawings or details of the roof’s layers are useful, as they show what lies beneath the surface. We’ll tell you if the roof can’t be tested. We survey single-ply roofs, green roofs and liquid-applied waterproofing, and common reasons people get in touch are leaks showing away from the breach and water coming in under a flat roof.
In a village or hamlet like Castle Hill, flat roofs are normally on extensions, garages, outbuildings or barn conversions. They need the same care as any town roof: outlets, upstands, edges and the covering itself. We simply plan the journey and access beforehand. If there are outbuildings or garages with flat roofs, mention them when you book.
It is not only a list of defects. It explains what we found, why it matters and what we recommend, so you can decide what to do next.

Honest limits
No survey can tell you everything, and we’d rather be clear about that before booking. Bear these in mind:
- Moisture spread under the membrane
- Parts of the roof covered by fixed equipment
- Leaks from plumbing or windows
If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll suggest the right survey before booking. The full list of what we check.

How the survey changes by roof type
Bituminous membranes
Bitumen roofs can frequently be tested electronically though the layers below matter.
Green and ballasted roofs
ELD is easier on a new roof before it is covered.
Should I look at the roof myself first?
You can learn a lot from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.
A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from ground level.
What we’re asked to look at in Castle Hill
Holes in a membrane often come from feet, tools or debris. Some are too small to see but water still finds them.
These are some of the problems a survey can pick up:
- New roofs to check before paving or planting
- Failed seams and laps
- Stains far from any visible defect
- Water coming in under a flat roof
Take an older house close to Parish Church of All Saints: later flat-roofed additions are common on older houses, and their edges and upstands frequently show the first signs of wear.

Common questions in Castle Hill
Is my home in Castle Hill listed or in a conservation area?
Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
Will you come out to Castle Hill?
Yes, Castle Hill is covered. We cover the whole of London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.
Does this replace a RICS home survey?
No. It is a specialist roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 building survey. It focuses on the roof and can sit alongside a RICS survey.
Do you use drones?
Where it helps and the rules allow, yes. Our sub-250g drone is flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID, and every flight depends on the airspace and the weather.
How do I book a survey in Castle Hill?
The quickest way is to call 07833 053749 or use the contact form. Give us the address and some details about the roof, and we’ll take it from there. We survey on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
How experienced are you?
Over 5,000 surveys so far, across 20+ years of surveying roofs, with 98% customer satisfaction.
Do you need to get into the loft?
Typically, if there’s one and it can be reached safely. The loft space can show things the outside cannot, such as damp timbers, staining or daylight.
Before and after the survey
You do not need to be a roofer to help. Here’s what helps most:
- Act on new leaks promptly
- Check new waterproofing before handover
- Avoid repeated repairs without finding the cause
- Limit access to the roof
Wet insulation may need attention after a leak. That is something to discuss with your roofer, and moisture readings can help.
Clear flat roof outlets regularly. Water that sits on the roof finds breaches faster.
What electronic leak detection looks like in Castle Hill
Scotney Castle, about 4.3 miles south, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Castle Hill. On older houses around here, roofs frequently carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead. Handmade clay tiles, including Kent peg tiles hung on pegs through two holes, are typical of older Kent buildings. The county’s older buildings also include oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses. Mixed in with those pitched roofs are a good many flat ones, over rear extensions, dormers, garages and shops.
For landlords with property near Paddock Wood station, the flat roof over a let home is worth a look before it becomes a tenant complaint. Take a building like Brenchley and Matfield Church of England Primary School: ponding and blocked outlets on a wide flat roof are worth catching before the next wet season.
