Need a flat roof survey in Worlds End?

What we do, step by step

A survey visit follows a simple order: we listen to what’s been worrying you, inspect the roof from each safe vantage point, take photos as we go and record our findings for the written report. Most visits take about 1–2 hours for a house, or half a day or so for a commercial building. Somewhere as small as Worlds End, access is frequently the only tricky part. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.

  1. We agree the roof to be surveyed, its use and any leaks you know about.
  2. The roof is viewed from safe positions, including the roof itself where that’s safe.
  3. The covering is checked for wear, splits, blisters and standing water.
  4. Upstands, outlets, edge trims and rooflights are checked and photographed.
  5. The report, with photos and recommendations, comes to you by email.

Flat roof survey in Worlds End

A Basic Survey, from £150, covers a visual inspection, a condition report, photos and written recommendations. The Standard Survey, from £250, adds moisture detection and a structural check. On a flat roof, moisture readings can help show whether water has got under the covering. Larger commercial roofs are quoted for their size. If you’ve noticed standing water left after rain and edge trims that have lifted or split, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on upstands and outlets, felt flat roofs and single-ply membranes alike.

In a small place like Worlds End, a flat roof can stand in the open, so edges, upstands and laps take a beating. Older felt roofs, often around 15–20 years in life, show it first. EPDM rubber and GRP coverings last longer, but their edges and joints still need checking. Exposed edges are normally the first part of a flat roof to go.

After the visit, you get a written report with photos, emailed to you. It explains the condition of the flat roof, the defects we found and what we recommend.

Roof by roof

Rooflights and upstands

Rooflights and fragile sheets are never walked on. They’re inspected from safe positions and recorded with photographs.

GRP fibreglass

Movement in the deck or a thin layer of resin can lead to cracks in GRP. We record any cracking and any signs of the deck moving.

DIY checks: what’s safe

Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.

Look up at the roof after a storm, from ground level: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.

Worlds End questions

Do you cover smaller places like Worlds End?

Yes, Worlds End is on our map. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house, with the route planned beforehand.

Is my home in Worlds End listed or in a conservation area?

The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. It’s worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.

Can you tell me how long my flat roof will last?

A precise figure isn’t something we give, because so much depends on upkeep, exposure and workmanship. Our report describes the condition and what needs doing, and when.

Do you carry out surveys on Saturdays and Sundays?

We carry out surveys on any day of the week. To find a day that suits you, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

Should I worry about standing water on my flat roof?

Water that lies on a flat roof for days is a sign that something needs attention. It could be the outlets, the falls or a deflecting deck. The survey looks at each and records the likely cause.

Can you inspect my roof with a drone?

Where it helps and the rules allow, yes. Our sub-250g drone is flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID, and the airspace and weather are checked before every flight.

What insurance do you have?

We hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance, for every survey we carry out.

Surveys for landlords and agents in Worlds End

Landlords and letting agents in Worlds End book surveys as well as homeowners. A report with photos gives you a clear record of the flat roof.

For blocks of flats, a roof survey helps managing agents and residents’ management companies plan ahead. The report sets out what needs attention now and what can wait.

What a flat roof survey doesn’t cover

Without opening up the roof, some things stay hidden, so a survey has limits:

  • The condition of the deck or insulation hidden under the covering
  • A promise that the roof won’t leak in future
  • Testing older roof sheets for asbestos

If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will suggest the right survey before booking. What our survey covers.

Local flat roofs in Worlds End

The coast is about 4 miles or less from Worlds End, so there’s more wind and more salt in the air than further inland. Salt in the air is hard on metal flashings and fixings, and wind catches any loose edge on a flat roof. What can be done to an older roof may depend on listing or a conservation area. The council is the place to check, along with Historic England’s list, before anyone quotes for re-roofing.

If you own a rental within reach of Portchester station, the flat roof over a let home is worth a look before it becomes a tenant complaint. In and around Worlds End, as anywhere, a roof is easiest to deal with when its problems are found early.
