Gutter survey in Albury Heath
We carry out gutter surveys in Albury Heath as part of our cover across London and South East England. On the day, we inspect whatever is safely visible from ground level, windows, the roof space and the roof where it’s safe. A visit usually takes about 1–2 hours for most homes, and longer where there are parapet, valley or box gutters to follow. Afterwards, you get a written report with photos and recommendations. Typical surveys look at soffits marked by water and downpipes that are split or coming away, on downpipes, outlets and hoppers and valley gutters.
In a small place like Albury Heath, many roofs stand in the open, which is hard on ridges, chimneys, flashings and gutters. Damp in old walls is slow to dry, so a small leak can do a lot of harm. A written report sets out what to deal with and in what order. Lead flashings and old chimney stacks are often where weather gets in first.
You receive the findings by email, easy to pass on to a roofer, an agent or an insurer. Basic reports come within 48 hours, Standard within 24–48 hours and Premium on the day.

Questions from Albury Heath
Is my home in Albury Heath listed or in a conservation area?
You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it is in a conservation area. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.
Do you survey roofs for landlords with property near Gomshall station?
Yes. We survey roofs for landlords, letting agents and managing agents as well as owners. Just ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the details.
Can a gutter survey explain damp on my walls?
Overflowing gutters frequently lead to damp walls, and the survey looks for that. If the evidence points elsewhere, we will say so as far as we can tell from what’s visible.
What will the report tell me?
It explains what we saw, what it means and what we’d suggest, with photographs throughout. Anything we couldn’t see safely is noted too, so you know exactly what was covered.
Does someone need to be in?
Not necessarily. An outside-only look can be arranged beforehand, but the loft and any rooms with damp need someone to let us in.
Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?
Yes. A shared roof needs access agreed first, with whoever owns or manages the building. Mention it when you contact us and we will plan the survey around it.
Will I get photos?
Yes, plenty. Each finding is shown in a picture where possible, so you can see what we mean.
Local roofs in Albury Heath
Older houses across Surrey frequently have handmade clay tiles, and many have tile-hanging. A few of Surrey’s oldest buildings have heavy Horsham stone slab roofs. Knowing the covering helps explain which parts of a roof are likely to need work first. Historic houses such as Chilworth Manor, about 2.3 miles west, show how far back building in the area around Albury Heath goes. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.
The streets around a church such as Old St Peter and St Paul's Church are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if your house is among the older ones nearby, the nails, lead and mortar on the roof may be wearing out even where the slates or tiles look fine. If you let a flat or house near Gomshall station, a dated record of the roof is useful when planning maintenance across a let.

For rail, the closest station is Gomshall station, roughly 1.6 miles east of the centre. Nearby you’ll also find St. Luke’s Hospital (3.9 miles north-west) and Shere Museum (0.9 miles north-east). Green spaces nearby include St Martha's Hill and Combe Bottom.
Common roof problems in Albury Heath
Hidden gutters are often lined with lead or another sheet covering. Splits and blocked outlets in these gutters can send water straight into the building, because there is no outer edge for it to spill over. Lead is also a target for theft.
Problems we come across often include:
- Downpipes that are split or coming away
- Valley or box gutters that overflow inside
- Dripping or leaking gutter joints
- Gutters packed with leaves or moss
Take a building like Shere CofE Aided Infant School: a written record of a large roof helps plan work for the holidays rather than in term time.
Before you book any roof surveyor
- Do they have a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID for drone work?
- How they plan to inspect the roof safely
- Whether the loft space is looked at, where there is one
- What’s outside the scope of the survey
For landlords and managing agents
An agent can book and manage the survey for a landlord, with the report sent to whoever needs it. We agree a time with the tenant beforehand.
If the property is let, the agent or a tenant can let us in, at a time agreed in advance. Surveys run on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays, which helps when tenants work during the week.

Can I check my roof myself?
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way. That’s where a survey comes in, using safe viewpoints and a drone where applicable.
Look up at the roof after a storm, from ground level: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
What this survey cannot tell you
Every survey has limits, and it is better to know them up front. Keep these in mind:
- Asbestos testing of old gutters, downpipes or soffits
- Blockages deep inside downpipes
- Hidden sections we can’t view safely
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll tell you. What our survey covers.
What we look at
- Downpipes
- Fascias and soffits
- Valley gutters
- Eaves gutters
- Parapet and box gutters
- Outlets and hoppers
How the survey works
Safety comes first on every visit. Everything that can be seen safely is inspected, and if part of the roof can’t be seen, the report says so. Most visits take between one and two hours for a house; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. In a hamlet or village like Albury Heath, a postcode does not always lead to the right gate, so a few directions are welcome. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.
- We agree which parts of the building you are most worried about.
- Each gutter run is checked for blockages, sags and leaking joints.
- We check the outlets, hoppers, downpipes and any overflows.
- We check fascias, soffits and walls for water damage.
- You get photos and written recommendations, prioritised where relevant.

Lead-lined valley and parapet gutters
Lead linings are common in valleys and parapet gutters on older houses. A split lining can leak straight into the building.
Plastic (uPVC) gutters
Plastic can become brittle with age and crack. We check the joints, brackets and falls.
