Why act early in Aldworth

It is easy to put damp down to the wrong cause. When rainwater goods are the source, treating the wall alone will not solve it. Checking the gutters first helps you spend in the right place. Outbuildings and barns around Aldworth are easy to forget, but a failed roof there can spoil what’s stored inside. It is worth including them in a survey before a winter does the damage.

Every price we give includes VAT. Prices start from £150, including VAT. You will know the exact price before you book.

Gutter surveys for homes and businesses in Aldworth

We survey gutters and rainwater systems in Aldworth and right across London and the South East. On the day, we inspect whatever is safely visible, from the ground, from windows and from the loft space. A visit normally takes an hour or two at a typical home, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. The written report follows, with photographs and recommendations. We are frequently asked to look into soffits marked by water and leaking or loose downpipes, on valley gutters, outlets and hoppers and parapet and box gutters.

Village roofs frequently face open fields and take the full force of wind and rain, so ridges, chimney stacks, flashings and gutters work hard. Damp in old walls is slow to dry, so a small leak can do a lot of harm. A roof report shows what needs attention first. Lead flashings and old chimney stacks are frequently where weather gets in first.

Every survey ends with a written report, with photos, sent by email. It sets out the condition of the gutter, any defects and our written recommendations.

What happens on the day

You don’t need to do much on the day. Point out anything you’ve noticed, such as stains, drips or loose pieces, and we will take it from there. The survey itself takes about one to two hours at a house, depending on how many gutter runs and downpipes there are. Somewhere like Aldworth needs a little journey planning: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. On the day, we inspect whatever is safely visible, inside and out.

  1. First, you tell us what you’ve seen, like overflows or damp.
  2. The eaves gutters, downpipes and fascias are looked at from the ground and vantage points.
  3. Valley, parapet and box gutters are inspected as far as they can safely be seen.
  4. We look in the loft space, where there is safe access, for signs of water getting in.
  5. You get a photo-illustrated written report and recommendations.

Before the survey

  • Leave a clear route to the loft
  • Unlock side gates and any roof access doors
  • Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed

Questions from Aldworth

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Aldworth?

Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case.

Is Aldworth within the area you cover?

Yes. Aldworth is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We work right across London and South East England. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

What does the report include?

It explains what we saw, what it means and what we’d suggest, backed by photographs. It also says if any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely, so you know exactly what was covered.

Does the report include photos?

Yes. Photographs are taken throughout the survey, and they go into the written report alongside our recommendations.

How do I book a survey in Aldworth?

To book, call 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address, the type of property and what’s prompted the survey. We will confirm the price and agree a day with you.

Do you look in the roof space?

Where it is relevant to the survey and there’s safe access, yes. Please clear anything stored under the hatch, and if the loft can’t be reached safely, the report says so.

How experienced are you?

More than 5,000 surveys over 20+ years, across London and South East England.

DIY checks: what’s safe

Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Take a photo and write down when you saw it, which helps when we look at the roof.

Keep a simple record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Send it with your enquiry, as it helps us focus the survey.

Do you need a gutter survey in Aldworth?

Hidden gutters are often lined with lead or another sheet covering. Splits and blocked outlets in these gutters can send water straight into the building as there’s nowhere harmless for it to go. Lead linings can also be stolen.

A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:

  • Overflowing eaves gutters
  • Cracked or loose downpipes
  • Rotten fascias or stained soffits
  • Gutters that have fallen out of line

If yours is one of the older homes in the streets near St Mary's church, old fixings, lead flashings and tall chimneys are typical of older roofs.

Questions to ask before you book

  • What happens after the report arrives
  • Which viewpoints they use to see the roof
  • Whether the loft is part of the inspection
  • Their insurance cover

Different roofs, different checks

Plastic (uPVC) gutters

Plastic rainwater systems are common on homes of many ages. As the seals age, joints can start to drip and brackets may drop under the weight of debris.

Aluminium and other metal gutters

Long metal gutter runs on larger buildings can hide blocked outlets, so we check the outlets carefully.

Local roofs in Aldworth

Cotswold stone slates are found on older buildings in west Oxfordshire, and thatch survives in some of the county’s villages. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. Whatever the covering, it is often the fixings, flashings, valleys and gutters that give out first. The wider area around Aldworth has a long history of building, with Basildon Park about 3.6 miles east. If you own one of the older houses, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material.

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as The Downs School, long gutter runs and wide roofs on a building that size are worth checking on a regular cycle. For landlords with property near Goring & Streatley station, a roof report helps you deal with small faults before they turn into a call from a tenant.
