Gutter Survey in Battramsley
Wondering about the gutter at a property in Battramsley? You can book a gutter survey in Battramsley and across Hampshire, with plain-English findings.
- Blocked outlets and hoppers
- Leaks at the gutter joints

Honest limits
Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so there are some things a survey cannot cover:
- The inside of buried drains
- The inside of a downpipe along its whole length
- Asbestos testing of old gutters, downpipes or soffits

How a gutter survey works in Battramsley
A gutter needs a steady fall towards its outlet to drain properly. When brackets sag or joints part, water pools, drips and spills over at the low points. We check the line of each run as far as we can see it, along with the brackets and downpipe fixings. Recommendations are written down and prioritised by urgency where relevant. If you are worried about joints that drip after rain and rotten fascias or stained soffits, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.
Village roofs often face open fields and take the full force of wind and rain, so ridges, chimney stacks, flashings and gutters work hard. Damp in old walls is slow to dry, so a small leak can do a lot of harm. A roof report shows what needs attention first. On exposed older roofs, chimneys and lead flashings are often the first to give way.
Pictures do a lot of the work in our reports, because a photo of a cracked flashing says more than a paragraph. Anything out of sight on the day is listed as such.

Battramsley: your questions answered
Do roofs near the sea, like those around Battramsley, take more of a battering?
It can do. Within about 3 miles of the sea, as Battramsley is, metal fixings wear faster and gales find any loose ridge or slate.
Do you cover smaller places like Battramsley?
Yes, Battramsley is covered. We cover the whole of London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned beforehand.
What’s in the survey report?
Written findings with photos, covering the condition of the gutter, the defects we found and what we recommend. Standard adds moisture detection and a structural check; Premium adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable and structural analysis.
Will you photograph what you find?
Yes. We photograph the roof as we go, and they go into the written report.
Will you check if gutters are causing damp inside?
Overflowing gutters frequently lead to damp walls, and we check for exactly that. If the evidence points elsewhere, we’ll say so, based on what we can see.
Will you look at parapet and box gutters as well?
Yes, as far as they can safely be seen. We look from vantage points, the roof space and the roof itself where safe, and by drone where it’s applicable.
Do I have to be there for the survey?
That depends on the survey. Inside the building and in the loft, we need someone to let us in, while outside access can be discussed as you book.
What affects the cost of gutter surveys
All our prices include VAT. What changes the price is:
- The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
- The shape of the roof and its details
- Building height and the viewpoints available
- How big the roof is
What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how safely it can be seen. Prices start from £150, including VAT.
Helping us price your survey
Before you get in touch, it helps to have:
- Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
- Any deadline, such as an exchange date
- Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
- The style of property, from a terrace to a block
Our phone lines are open seven days a week, including Saturdays and Sundays. To book or ask a question, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email.
Checking the roof from the ground
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and a fall can be serious. That part is for a survey, using safe viewpoints and a drone where it applies.
During heavy rain, look at the gutters from ground level or a window. Water spilling over the edge can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
Why get it checked now?
It is easy to put damp down to the wrong cause. When rainwater goods are the source, treating the wall alone won’t solve it. A gutter survey helps rule the rainwater system in or out. Around Battramsley, older homes often have old roof timbers, and water through a failed covering can rot timber if it is left.
The Premium Survey includes thermal imaging and drone inspection where applicable, which starts from £400, including VAT. We can help you choose the package that fits what you want to find out.

Roofs, chimneys and gutters in Battramsley
The coast is about 3 miles or less from Battramsley, and being near the sea means more wind and salt than a roof inland would face. Salt corrodes metal fixings and flashings, and wind lifts loose slates, tiles and ridge pieces, and driving rain gets into whatever gap is left. Before planning roof work on an older home, find out whether it is listed or in a conservation area. Listed building consent covers changes to a listed building’s special interest, and an Article 4 direction can bring extra controls in a conservation area.
If you let a flat or house near Sway station, a roof report helps you deal with small faults before they turn into a call from a tenant. If you own one of the older houses in the streets near Church of St John, its chimney, valleys and lead work are likely to be the parts that need attention first. Take a building like William Gilpin Church of England Primary School: long gutter runs and wide roofs on a building that size are worth checking on a regular cycle.

How the survey works
We work from the outside in: first the slopes, edges and gutters from every safe viewpoint, then the roof space where it can be reached. All told, expect between one and two hours at a house, depending on how many gutter runs and downpipes there are. For a village or hamlet like Battramsley, the journey is planned in advance: let us know about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. On the day, we inspect whatever is safely visible, inside and out.
- You tell us where you’ve seen overflows, drips or damp.
- The eaves gutters, downpipes and fascias are looked at from ground level and windows.
- Valleys, parapets and box gutters are inspected where they can be seen safely.
- Where it’s safe, we check the loft for signs of water.
- You receive a report with photos and recommendations.
Before we arrive
- Keep pets out of the way during the survey
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- Jot down any questions you want answered
