Baybridge Gutter Survey
Gutter surveys in Baybridge, with over 20 years’ experience behind it. You get a clear report with photographs.
- Overflowing valley or parapet gutters
- Water spilling over the gutter edge
- Leaking or loose downpipes
Why get it checked now?
Clearing gutters removes the debris, but it does not tell you why a gutter overflows. Our survey also looks at falls, joints, brackets, outlets and downpipes, so you know whether there is more to it. In a small place like Baybridge, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.
The cost of a survey depends on the roof: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how safely it can be seen. Gutter survey starts from £150, including VAT.

About our gutter survey in Baybridge
We check the rainwater system above ground level, from the gutters down to where the downpipes meet the ground. It’s not a CCTV drain survey, so we cannot see inside underground pipes. Where water seems to be backing up from below ground, the report will say so, with a suggestion to book a separate drain survey. Anything we find above ground, like a split hopper or a leaking downpipe, is photographed and recorded. If you’re worried about water spilling over the gutter edge and fascia boards damaged by overflowing water, we can find out what’s behind it.
In a small place like Baybridge, many roofs stand in the open, which is hard on ridges, chimneys, flashings and gutters. Older walls take a long time to dry once water gets in. A written report sets out what to deal with and in what order. On exposed older roofs, chimneys and lead flashings are often the first to give way.
How fast the report arrives depends on the package: the Basic Survey within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey on the same day.

What else we do in Baybridge
What we’re asked to look at in Baybridge
Lots of tiled and slate roofs carry moss, and heavy rain washes clumps of it into the gutters. With grit from the coverings, it forms a thick sludge that holds water in the gutter and lets weeds take root.
Typical things we are asked to look at include:
- Rotten fascias or stained soffits
- Gutters packed with leaves or moss
- Leaks at the gutter joints
- Brackets that have dropped or snapped
For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Owslebury Primary School, its roofs, gutters and any chimneys need the same checks as a house’s, just on a bigger scale.

Questions from Baybridge
Is my home in Baybridge listed or in a conservation area?
Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.
Can a landlord with a rental near Shawford station book a roof survey?
Of course. Let us know whether a tenant or an agent will let us in, and the report can go straight to you or your agent.
Do you use drones?
Where it helps and it’s safe, yes. Flights depend on the weather on the day and airspace rules. We are a CAA-registered drone operator.
Can a gutter survey explain damp on my walls?
Overflowing gutters often lead to damp walls, and the survey looks for that. If the cause looks like something else, the report says so as far as we can tell from what’s visible.
Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?
Every survey is covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance, and we can provide details if a managing agent needs them.
Will the survey check for asbestos?
No, that is a job for a specialist asbestos surveyor. On buildings from before 2000, we flag materials that could contain it so it can be checked before work starts.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Only if it is safe. We look at everything that can be seen safely: from ground level, from windows, from inside the loft space, from the roof where it is safe and by drone where it applies. The report says if anything couldn’t be seen.
Rented homes, blocks and businesses
Managing agents and residents’ management companies use roof surveys to plan maintenance. The report sets out what needs attention now and what can wait.
Freeholders and residents’ companies use a roof report to plan and budget.
Roof by roof
Aluminium and other metal gutters
Metal gutters are common on commercial buildings and some homes. Their joints and outlets still need checking.
Fascias and soffits
Soffits and timber fascias suffer when gutters overflow. We check them along with the gutters.
Local roofs in Baybridge
Thatch survives on some older buildings in Hampshire’s villages. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. Whichever you have, the details that tend to fail before the covering itself get the closest look. There are about 500,000 buildings on England’s list of listed buildings, and around 10,000 conservation areas. If your home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission, so the council is the place to ask.
If you let a flat or house near Shawford station, a roof report between tenancies helps plan work before a small defect becomes a tenant’s leak. If yours is one of the older homes in the streets near Church of St Andrew, corroded nails, tired lead and weathered chimney pointing are the things to watch on older roofs.

DIY checks: what’s safe
Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.
A lot can be seen from ground level. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Never climb onto the roof to look.
What we do, step by step
Expect us to ask a few questions before we start, about the roof’s history, any leaks and past repairs. Then the inspection itself takes roughly 1–2 hours at a typical home, and more on a big or complicated roof. In a hamlet or village like Baybridge, a postcode doesn’t always lead to the right gate, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.
- We start with what you’ve noticed, such as damp or overflowing gutters.
- The eaves gutters, downpipes and fascias are looked at from ground level and windows.
- Valleys, parapets and box gutters are inspected where they can safely be seen.
- The loft space is checked for staining, where it can be reached safely.
- A photo-illustrated written report and recommendations follows.
How to prepare
- Keep pets out of the way during the survey
- If you’re buying, check with the agent that we can get in
- If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
