Danehill Gutter Survey
Gutter surveys for homes and businesses in Danehill. We’ve completed more than 5,000 surveys across London and the South East.
- Leaks at the gutter joints
- Leaking or loose downpipes
- Hoppers and outlets full of debris
Practical tips
A few practical points come up again and again on our surveys. They apply to most roofs:
- Include valley, parapet and box gutters when clearing
- Check that downpipes are firmly fixed to the wall
- Get the gutters cleaned out every year
- Check the loft with care after heavy rain
After any work is done, watch the gutters in the next heavy rain. Water should run to the outlets and away without spilling over, and if it does not, raise it with whoever did the job.
Have your gutters cleared at least once a year, and more often if trees overhang the roof. Late autumn, after the leaves have fallen, is a sensible time. Clean gutters can do their job.
Gutter survey in Danehill: what you get
This survey covers rainwater above ground, from the gutters down to where the downpipes meet the ground. It isn’t a CCTV drain survey, so we cannot see inside underground pipes. Where water seems to be backing up from below ground, the report will say so, so you can get the drains checked separately. Problems above ground, from split hoppers to leaking downpipes, are photographed and noted. Typical surveys look at water backing up from a hidden gutter and rotten fascias or stained soffits, on eaves gutters, valley gutters and fascias and soffits.
In a small place like Danehill, many roofs stand in the open, so ridges, chimney stacks, flashings and gutters work hard. Older walls take a long time to dry once water gets in. A written report sets out what to deal with and in what order. Lead flashings and old chimney stacks are often where weather gets in first.
How fast the report arrives depends on the package: the Basic Survey within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey on the same day.

What we do, step by step
There is not much for you to do on the day. Show us any stains, drips or problem areas you know about, and we will take it from there. A typical survey takes an hour or two for most houses, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. Somewhere like Danehill needs a little journey planning: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. On the day, we inspect what can safely be seen, inside and out.
- We start by hearing about any drips, overflows or damp patches.
- Gutters, downpipes, fascias and soffits are inspected from safe vantage points.
- Valley, parapet and box gutters are inspected as far as they can be seen safely.
- The loft space is checked for water marks if it’s safe to get into.
- The findings are written up with photos and recommendations.
How to prepare
- Leave a clear route to the loft
- Keep pets inside or away from the areas we are looking at
- Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
How to book
If you have photos of the roof, send them over. Pictures from ground level or a window are fine, and please do not climb up for a closer look. To get started, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

Gutter surveys around Danehill
With Priest House about 4 miles north-west, Danehill sits in an area with a long building history. Older homes in the wider area frequently have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area. Handmade clay tiles and tile-hung upper walls are typical of older Sussex houses. Some old buildings in Sussex have Horsham stone slab roofs. Knowing the covering helps explain which parts of a roof are likely to need work first.
If you look after a building like Danehill Church of England Primary School, large buildings have long gutter runs and big roofs that need checking like any other. Landlords with a home close to Haywards Heath station may find that a roof report helps you deal with small faults before they turn into a call from a tenant. If you live in an older home near The Parish Church of All Saints, its roof may have old fixings, lead flashings and chimneys that need a closer look.

What we look for on each type of roof
Box and secret gutters
Secret gutters are hidden under the edge of the roof covering and is easy to overlook. The report records what could and couldn’t be seen.
Lead-lined valley and parapet gutters
A London butterfly roof drains to a central valley gutter, and a blockage there can overflow inside. It is inspected as far as safe access allows.

Common questions in Danehill
Can a landlord with a rental near Haywards Heath station book a roof survey?
Yes, landlords and agents book with us as well as owners. Just call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and let us know about the building, including who will give access on the day.
How do I find out if my home in Danehill is listed?
Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.
Do you look in the loft space?
If there’s a loft and safe access to it, yes. From inside, the underside of the roof often shows damp, staining or daylight that can’t be seen from outside.
Are you insured?
We are covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance, for every survey we carry out.
Are hidden gutters like valleys and box gutters included?
Yes, as far as they can be seen safely. We look from vantage points, the roof space and the roof itself where safe, and by drone where it’s applicable.
Will you walk on the roof?
Not unless it is safe. Most of what we need can be seen from safe viewpoints, the loft and, where applicable, a drone, and anything out of sight is recorded in the report.
Do you work in Danehill?
Yes. Our area covers London and South East England, Danehill included.

Why act early in Danehill
When a valley or parapet gutter blocks, the water has nowhere safe to go. It can overflow into the building, often in the heaviest rain. It’s worth having these gutters looked at before the wetter months. In a place like Danehill, a barn or garage roof left to fail puts whatever is inside at risk. A quick look before winter can save a lot.
Every price we give includes VAT, and the report is not charged as an extra. Gutter survey starts from £150, including VAT. Where your roof sits in the range depends on its size, height and access.
