Gutter Survey in Southford
Gutter surveys across Southford, with over 20 years’ experience behind it. Every survey ends with a written report and photographs.
- Valley or box gutters that overflow inside
- Brackets that have dropped or snapped
- Joints that drip after rain
What we do, step by step
We’ll ask a few questions first, like when any problem began and what work has been done before. The inspection then takes an hour or two at a typical home, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. In a hamlet or village like Southford, a postcode does not always lead to the right gate, so a few directions are welcome. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.
- First, we agree the areas to focus on.
- We look along each run for debris, sagging and drips.
- Outlets, hoppers, downpipes and overflows are inspected.
- Fascias, soffits and the walls below are looked at for signs of overflow.
- Findings are photographed and set out in a written report.
Before the survey
- Let us know about parking near the property
- Make sure we can get to the back of the property
- Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller

About our gutter survey in Southford
We survey gutters and rainwater systems in Southford and right across London and the South East. We inspect everything we can see safely, from ground level, from windows and from the loft space. Time on site typically takes about one to two hours at a house, depending on how many gutter runs and downpipes there are. The written report follows, with photos and recommendations. Common reasons to book are joints that drip after rain and water spilling over the gutter edge, on parapet and box gutters, outlets and hoppers and fascias and soffits.
Some older homes in villages like Southford are listed or in a conservation area. That can affect what materials can be used when work is done, so check with the council before planning anything. Knowing the roof’s condition helps you plan ahead with that in mind. Older materials like clay tiles, slate and stone are frequently matched when work is done.
The report does not just list problems. It explains what we found, why it matters and what we recommend, so you can plan your next steps.

Local roofs in Southford
Southford lies within about 2 miles of the sea, so there’s more wind and more salt in the air than further inland. Salt is hard on nails, clips and metal flashings, and strong wind lifts anything already loose on a roof. With Sheat Manor about 3.7 miles north, Southford sits in an area with a long building history. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.
Take an older house close to Church of St. Mary and St. Radegund: its roof may have old fixings, lead flashings and chimneys that need a closer look. For landlords with property near Shanklin station, knowing the condition of the roof, chimneys and gutters helps you plan work rather than react to complaints.

Southford questions
Do you cover smaller places like Southford?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We survey roofs across London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.
Can a landlord with a rental near Shanklin station book a roof survey?
Yes, rented property is part of what we cover. You can call 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and a few details, including who will give access on the day.
What does the report include?
You get our findings in writing, part by part, with photos, finishing with recommendations. Points are put in order of urgency where relevant.
How long will you be on site?
Most visits to a house take about 1–2 hours, and longer for larger or complex roofs.
How fast do I get the report?
It depends on the package: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day. Reports are sent by email.
Are hidden gutters like valleys and box gutters included?
Yes. Hidden gutters are a common cause of leaks inside, so they’re an important part of the survey. Parts of them may not be visible, and the report says so.
Does someone need to be in?
If the survey includes the loft or the inside of the building, someone needs to let us in. Access is agreed with you when you book.
What we look for on each type of roof
Plastic (uPVC) gutters
Joints that have pulled apart are a common fault on plastic gutters. We record each one we can see.
Box and secret gutters
A box gutter is built into the roof, often behind a parapet, so overflows can end up inside. We check them where they can be seen safely.
Why act early in Southford
A gutter clear-out takes the leaves away but it won’t explain why water keeps spilling over. Our survey also looks at falls, joints, brackets, outlets and downpipes, so you know whether there’s more to it. In a place like Southford, a barn or garage roof left to fail puts whatever is inside at risk. It’s worth including them in a survey before a winter does the damage.
Bigger, taller and commercial roofs take more time to survey, so the price reflects that. The price is confirmed before you book.

Tips that help
A little preparation and a few simple habits help, both for the survey and for the roof itself. Our tips:
- Check that downpipes are firmly fixed to the wall
- Ask for valleys and parapet gutters to be cleared too
- Look out for overflows when it pours
- Book gutter clearing once a year, more often near trees
If we think the problem lies underground, we will say so, so a drain survey can be arranged. Anything else we notice on the roof, as far as we can see it, is noted too.
Have overhanging branches and climbing plants cut back from the roof by someone who can do it safely. Less debris means fewer blocked outlets.
Can I check my roof myself?
If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.
After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Take a photo and write down when you saw it, which helps when we check the roof.
