Weston Green Gutter Survey
A survey of gutters, valleys, outlets and downpipes in Weston Green, carried out by an experienced roof surveyor. Every survey comes with a written report and photographs.

- Fascia boards damaged by overflowing water
- Sagging gutters and loose brackets
About our gutter survey in Weston Green
Eaves gutters at the front of a building are easy to spot, but many aren’t. Valley gutters between slopes, gutters behind parapet walls and box or secret gutters can send water indoors when they overflow. We inspect them as far as it’s safe to see them using vantage points, the loft space and the roof itself where safe. Hidden gutters are a common source of leaks inside. If you are worried about blocked outlets and hoppers and overflowing eaves gutters, a survey will tell you what’s going on.
Older buildings in small places like Weston Green may be listed or in a conservation area. That can affect what materials can be used when work is done, so check with the council before planning anything. Knowing the roof’s condition helps you plan ahead with that in mind. Where a building is listed, matching the existing roof materials is often expected.
After the visit, you get a written report with photos, emailed to you. It sets out the condition of the gutter, any defects and our written recommendations.

What this survey can’t tell you
It’s useful to know what a survey will not do before you book:
- Parts of gutters that can’t be seen safely
- Rot or damp concealed behind fascias or inside walls
- Whether a material contains asbestos (a specialist asbestos surveyor’s job)
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can call 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll tell you before booking. The full list of what we check.

- Downpipes
- Fascias and soffits
- Outlets and hoppers
- Eaves gutters
Can I check my roof myself?
Look up at the roof after a storm, from the ground: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Photograph them and note the date, as it helps a surveyor trace the cause.
Weston Green: your questions answered
Is my home in Weston Green listed or in a conservation area?
The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it’s worth checking before planning any.
I let a flat near Thames Ditton station. Can you check the roof?
Yes, landlords and agents book with us as well as owners. Just call 07833 053749 or email us and tell us about the building, including who will give access on the day.
Are you insured?
Our cover is professional indemnity plus public liability.
Is Weston Green in your area?
Yes, we do. Weston Green is part of the area we cover, and the service is the same as everywhere else we work.
Will you go up on the roof?
Not unless it’s safe. Most of what we need can be seen from safe viewpoints, the loft and, where applicable, a drone, and the report notes anything we couldn’t see.
Will you check the loft?
If there is a loft and safe access to it, yes. The roof space can show things the outside cannot, like damp timbers, staining or daylight.
How many surveys have you done?
We have more than 20 years’ experience and have carried out more than 5,000 surveys.
What happens on the day
Where it’s relevant and can be reached safely, the roof space is checked as well as the outside. Inside, we look for staining, damp, gaps and signs of movement, as far as the space allows. The whole visit typically takes about one to two hours at a typical home, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. Older rural homes like those around Weston Green can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. Each part is looked at from wherever it can safely be seen, and anything we cannot see is noted.
- We ask about overflows, damp or leaks you’ve noticed.
- Gutters, downpipes, fascias and soffits are inspected from safe vantage points.
- Valley, parapet and box gutters are inspected as far as they can safely be seen.
- The roof space is checked for water marks if it’s safe to get into.
- You get a report with photographs and recommendations.
How to prepare
- Leave a clear route to the loft

Local roofs in Weston Green
The wider area around Weston Green has a long history of building, with Hampton Court Palace about 1.3 miles north. Older homes in the wider area often have features worth a closer look, like lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material. Older houses across Surrey often have handmade clay tiles, and many have tile-hanging. A few of Surrey’s oldest buildings have heavy Horsham stone slab roofs. Each of these coverings has its own weak points, from fixings and valleys to flashings, chimneys and gutters.
If you live in an older home near Church of All Saints, its chimney, valleys and lead work are likely to be the parts that need attention first. Anyone responsible for a site like Esher College will know that large buildings have long gutter runs and big roofs that need checking like any other. If you look after a shop, office or commercial unit, for instance near Bentall Centre, a written record of the roof’s condition helps you plan maintenance rather than react to leaks.

How the survey changes by roof type
Fascias and soffits
On buildings from before 2000, soffits may be asbestos cement. We flag any that could be so a specialist asbestos surveyor can check them before they’re disturbed.
Aluminium and other metal gutters
Aluminium and other metal gutters are used on many newer and commercial buildings. Their joints and outlets still need checking.
Useful tips for Weston Green property owners
Most of what helps is simple and safe from the ground. A few suggestions:
- Book gutter clearing once a year, more often near trees
- Watch ceilings under valley gutters for fresh marks
- Don’t leave hidden gutters out of a clear-out
- Check that downpipes are firmly fixed to the wall
How quickly the report arrives depends on the package: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day. We email it to you once it is done.
Get small faults like a dripping joint or loose downpipe sorted quickly. Left alone, they normally grow, and the water they spill can damage walls and timber.
For landlords and managing agents
Buyers’ agents can book surveys on behalf of their clients. The report is emailed, so it can go straight to your client, photographs included.
Freeholders and residents’ companies use a roof report to plan and budget, with the most urgent items set out first.
