Gutter Survey in Whitsbury
An experienced roof surveyor for gutter surveys in Whitsbury. Over 5,000 surveys and 20+ years behind us across London and South East England.

- Gutters that have fallen out of line
- Leaking or loose downpipes
DIY checks: what’s safe
During heavy rain, look at the gutters from the ground or a window. Water spilling over the edge can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
It helps to keep a record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Send it with your enquiry and it will help the survey.
Gutter survey in Whitsbury: what you get
Some gutters are easy to see from the street but a good many gutters are tucked away. Valley, parapet, box and secret gutters can overflow inside the building when they block. We inspect them as far as it is safe to see them, from ground level, from windows, from the roof space and from the roof where it is safe. Hidden gutters are a common source of leaks inside. If you are worried about leaves and moss blocking gutters and gutters that have fallen out of line, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on parapet and box gutters, valley gutters and eaves gutters alike.
Village roofs often face open fields and take the full force of wind and rain, which is hard on ridges, chimneys, flashings and gutters. Older walls take a long time to dry once water gets in. A roof report shows what needs attention first. Lead flashings and old chimney stacks are frequently where weather gets in first.
The report is written in plain words, so you don’t need to be a roofer to follow it. Each point is backed by a photograph where possible.

Roofs, chimneys and gutters in Whitsbury
With Breamore House about 1.6 miles east, Whitsbury sits in an area with a long building history. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters. Thatch survives on some older buildings in Hampshire’s villages. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. Knowing the covering helps explain which parts of a roof are likely to need work first.
The streets around a church such as Church of St Leonard are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if your house is among the older ones nearby, corroded nails, tired lead and weathered chimney pointing are the things to watch on older roofs. Anyone responsible for a site like Western Downland Church of England Aided Primary School will know that a written record of a large roof helps plan work for the holidays rather than in term time.

The survey, step by step
We work from the outside in: outside views come first, then the loft space if there’s safe access. All told, expect roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, and longer where there are parapet, valley or box gutters to follow. Rural addresses near Whitsbury can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions are welcome. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.
- We agree which parts of the building you are most worried about.
- We look along each run for debris, sagging and drips.
- We check the outlets, hoppers, downpipes and any overflows.
- We check fascias, soffits and walls for water damage.
- You get photos and written recommendations, prioritised where relevant.

A box gutter is built into the roof, often behind a parapet and when it overflows, water can get indoors. We inspect them as far as it is safe to see them.
Plastic (uPVC) gutters
Joints that have pulled apart are a common fault on plastic gutters. We record each one we can see.

Whitsbury questions
Is Whitsbury within the area you cover?
Yes, Whitsbury is on our map. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house.
Do you cover Whitsbury?
Yes. Our area covers London and South East England, and Whitsbury is part of that. Just ring 07833 053749 or email us and let us know about the property.
Are you structural engineers?
No. We’re roof surveyors, not structural engineers, and it does not include calculations. We will recommend an engineer if we see signs that call for one.
Could my damp wall be caused by the gutters?
We check whether rainwater from the gutters is reaching the wall from overflows, leaking joints or loose downpipes. We cannot see inside walls, so the report covers what can be seen.
Are you insured?
We hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance, for every survey we carry out.
Do you survey at weekends?
Yes, we carry out surveys on Saturdays and Sundays as well as weekdays. Just ring 07833 053749 or email us to arrange it.
Will the survey check for asbestos?
No. We do not test for asbestos. Where gutters, downpipes or soffits could be asbestos cement, we flag them and recommend a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before they’re disturbed.
Tips that help
Getting the most from a gutter survey starts before we arrive and carries on afterwards. Tips:
- Look for green streaks or damp patches on walls
- Watch ceilings under valley gutters for fresh marks
- Check downpipe clips are holding
- Have overhanging branches cut back
If we think the problem lies underground, we will say so, so a drain survey can be arranged. Anything else we notice on the roof, as far as we can see it, is noted too.
Hidden gutters need clearing too. They block in the same way as the gutters you can see but you cannot check them from the street, so check they’re included in any clearing work.
When you need someone else
A survey is a careful look at the gutter, but it can’t do everything. The main limits are:
- Damage hidden inside walls or behind boards
- What’s hidden inside a downpipe
- Pipes below ground level
If you are not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will give you a straight answer. What a survey covers and does not.
