What happens on the day

We’ll ask a few questions first, about the roof’s history, any leaks and past repairs. The inspection then takes roughly 1–2 hours for most houses, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. For a survey in Grove, we agree the time, the access and parking before the day. Weekday and weekend visits are both possible. Let us know about any garages, outbuildings or extensions you want included.

  1. You pick the package that suits your roof.
  2. On the day, we start by hearing what you’ve noticed.
  3. We inspect and photograph every part of the roof we can safely see.
  4. Extra checks are carried out where your package includes them.
  5. You get a written report with photos and clear recommendations.

Preparing for the visit

  • Leave side gates unlocked
  • Let us know where we can park nearby
  • Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work

Advice

Roof surveys for homes and businesses in Grove

We inspect everything that’s safely in view: from ground level, from windows and other vantage points, from inside the loft and from the roof itself where it is safe. The Premium Survey adds thermal imaging and, where it applies, a drone, for roofs that are hard to see well. All we need from you is access to the property and the loft. Everything we see is photographed for the report. Common reasons to book are cracked mortar along the ridge and blocked, sagging or leaking gutters, on the roof space, flat roofs and chimney stacks.

Trees around homes in smaller places like Grove drop leaves, twigs and moss onto roofs and into gutters. Blocked gutters overflow and soak the walls below, and moss holds water against tiles. It’s the kind of slow problem a roof report picks up early. Moss on the roof and weeds in the gutter are both easy to spot from ground level.

We write the report in plain English, so it makes sense without any roofing background. Photos show what each point refers to.

Why get it checked now?

Many roofs go years without anyone looking at them closely. Our report gives you a record of how the roof is today, so you can compare it next time. Tradespeople may need to travel further to a smaller place like Grove, so it helps to plan roof work rather than call someone out in a hurry. A survey gives you that notice.

Price depends partly on the package: from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, including VAT. Size, height and access can affect the price too.

Why us?

  • An independent view of the roof
  • Prices that include VAT
  • 98% of customers satisfied
  • Surveys seven days a week

Roof surveys in Grove: local notes

Listing and conservation areas can both shape what roof work is allowed on an older home. Your council and Historic England’s list will tell you where you stand, ideally before any re-roofing is planned. Where the drone is part of the survey, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying.

If you look after a building like Millbrook Primary School, its roofs, gutters and any chimneys need the same checks as a house’s, just on a bigger scale. If your house is among the older ones in the streets near St. John the Baptist, its chimney, valleys and lead work are likely to be the parts that need attention first.

Grove is about 8 miles west of Didcot, in Oxfordshire. We carry out roof surveys for homes and businesses in Grove and nearby. We cover towns and villages across Oxfordshire, large and small. For surveys nearby, see our Oxford page.

We also cover Denchworth (1 mile north-west), West Hanney (2 miles north), Lyford (3 miles north), Goosey (3 miles west) and Charney Bassett (3 miles north). Further out, we also cover Oxford (13 miles north-east), Didcot (8 miles east), Abingdon-on-Thames (8 miles north-east), Witney (13 miles north), Carterton (13 miles north-west) and Faringdon (8 miles north-west).

Roof by roof

Concrete interlocking tiles

Interlocking tiles on shallow roofs depend on their laps and fixings. Lifted or cracked tiles are noted, particularly at the verges and ridge.

Clay plain and peg tiles

Clay tiles are common on older South East homes, and some have Kent peg tiles held by pegs. Rotten pegs and battens let tiles move, leaving gaps along the courses.

How we price roof surveys

Not every roof costs the same to survey, for these reasons:

  • Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
  • The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
  • Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
  • The roof’s overall size

Every price we give includes VAT. Prices start from £150, including VAT. You will know the price for your survey before booking.

Helping us price your survey

You do not need to know any roofing terms. Just let us know:

  • The type of building and roof, like pitched or flat
  • When you need the report by
  • Access details, like a loft hatch or a shared roof
  • Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work

Every survey is priced before it’s booked, so you know the cost up front. Prices start from £150, including VAT. To book, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email.

What you can safely check yourself

Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. You won’t see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from ground level.

After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Photograph them and note the date.

Common questions in Grove

Is Grove within the area you cover?

Yes. Grove is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We work right across London and South East England. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there as you book.

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Grove?

The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it’s worth checking before planning any.

How much is a survey?

Prices start from £150, including VAT. We confirm the exact price before you book. For a price, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

Do I have to be there for the survey?

Not necessarily. If we only need the outside, we can agree that in advance, but the loft and any rooms with damp need someone to let us in.

Do you inspect the roof from on top?

Only where it is safe to do so. Much of the survey is done from ground level, upper windows and the loft space. The Premium Survey adds a drone where applicable.

When will the report arrive?

It depends on the package: within 48 hours for Basic, 24 to 48 hours for Standard and the same day for Premium. It’s emailed to you.

Can you inspect a terraced or semi-detached roof?

Yes. We inspect what the owner gives us access to. Where a defect looks to be on the neighbour’s side, the report says so.

Common roof problems in Grove

Chimneys stand exposed above the roof. Mortar crumbles, the flaunching around the pots cracks and stacks can lean. Damp on a chimney breast inside often starts at the top of the stack.

A survey can pick up problems such as:

  • Cracked mortar along the ridge
  • Gutters that overflow in heavy rain
  • Torn or sagging underlay
  • Slates or tiles that have slipped or broken

Homes near green spaces such as Betjeman Millennium Park can get more leaves in their gutters in autumn, so outlets and downpipes are worth watching.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Whether the loft is part of the inspection
  • How much experience they have with roofs like yours
  • Is there a chance to talk the report through?
  • Which viewpoints they use to see the roof
