Roof survey in Pusey
Roof coverings last a long time, but not for ever. Natural slate can last 100 years or more, and clay and concrete tiles commonly 50 years or more, yet nails, battens and underlay frequently fail first. A survey shows which parts of your roof are wearing. Knowing that helps you plan work before it becomes urgent. Typical surveys look at leaning or weathered chimney stacks and gaps in the roof where coverings have gone, across ridges, hips and valleys, natural slate and chimney stacks.
In a village or hamlet like Pusey, older cottages and farmhouses frequently sit alongside barns, outbuildings and a few newer houses. Roofs there can be clay tile, slate, stone or thatch, and chimney stacks are often old. Each needs checking in its own way, and thatch is a specialist material we report on as far as it can be seen. Chimneys and lead flashings on old roofs frequently need the most attention.
The report is yours to share with whoever needs it: a seller or estate agent, an insurer, a roofer, a builder or a managing agent.

Roof by roof
Lead flashings and valleys
Flashings and valleys are where many leaks start. They get particular attention in every survey.
Clay plain and peg tiles
Where tiles hang on walls or dormers, we check them too. Loose or missing tiles there let rain into the wall.

Why get it checked now?
Hidden gutters and valleys can fail without warning. An overflow there sends water indoors. A survey checks them while they’re still dry. In a place like Pusey, a barn or garage roof left to fail puts whatever is inside at risk. A quick look before winter can save a lot.
What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how safely it can be seen. Our price is from £150, including VAT.

Roof surveys around Pusey
Longworth House, about 2.4 miles north-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Pusey. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material. If the drone is used for your survey, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.
The streets around a church like Church of All Saints are often among the oldest in a place, and if your house is among the older ones nearby, its chimney, valleys and lead work are likely to be the parts that need attention first. Take a building like Buckland Church of England Primary School: a written record of a large roof helps plan work for the holidays rather than in term time.

The survey, step by step
The visit usually starts outside and finishes in the loft: first the slopes, edges and gutters from every safe viewpoint, then the roof space where it can be reached. In total, it takes about one to two hours for most houses, and longer for a large or complex roof. Cottages and farmhouses around Pusey often have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. Each part is looked at from wherever it can be seen safely, and anything we cannot see is noted.
- You get in touch with the address and anything you’ve noticed.
- We agree a date, on a weekday, Saturday or Sunday.
- The roof is inspected from ground level, windows, the loft and the roof itself where it is safe.

Checking the roof from ground level
Look up at the roof after a storm, from the ground: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
It is useful to keep a record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Send it with your enquiry.
Pusey questions
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Pusey?
Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it is worth checking before planning any.
Is Pusey within the area you cover?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We survey roofs across London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.
Can you survey in bad weather?
It can, depending on the survey. Drones cannot fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, and thermal imaging works best after a sunny day, with a dry roof and little wind. If the conditions are not right, we will talk to you about another date.
Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?
Yes, as long as access is agreed. The roof of a block or converted house is often shared, so the building owner or managing agent needs to agree access. We can only inspect what we’re given access to.
Can you survey a roof I share with a neighbour?
Yes, the part you own or can give access to. We can only look at neighbouring roofs as far as access allows. Shared stacks and upstands are looked at from your property.
Can you tell me how long my roof will last?
Not as an exact number, since the fixings, underlay and maintenance all play a part. Instead, we set out what’s sound, what’s wearing and what to do first.
Does someone need to be in?
Not necessarily. An outside-only look can be arranged beforehand, but anything inside needs someone there to give access.
