How a roof survey works in Stonecrouch
There are three levels of survey: a Basic Survey from £150, a Standard Survey from £250 and a Premium Survey from £400, all with VAT included. The Basic Survey gives a visual inspection, photos and written recommendations. The higher packages add more checks, with moisture detection and a structural check, and on Premium, thermal imaging and a drone where it applies. Every package includes a written report. If you’re worried about ridge tiles that have lifted or moved and debris building up in roof valleys, we can find out what’s behind it.
Some older homes in villages like Stonecrouch are listed or in a conservation area. That can affect what materials can be used when work is done, so check with the council before planning anything. A roof report helps you plan work with that in mind. Where a building is listed, matching the existing roof materials is often expected.
After the visit, you get a written report with photos, emailed to you. It sets out the condition of the roof, any defects and our written recommendations.

Landlords, agents and block managers in Stonecrouch
Roof problems in a rented home affect tenants as well as the building. A survey helps you spot issues early and plan the work.
Businesses and commercial landlords can book us too. Larger roofs take longer, and they’re priced for the size.
What a roof survey looks like in Stonecrouch
About 1.6 miles north-west lies Scotney Castle, a reminder of how long the area around Stonecrouch has been built on. Older homes in the wider area often have features worth a closer look, like lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area. If your survey includes the drone, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.

How it works
Photographs are taken throughout the visit, so the report shows exactly what we saw. Close-ups come from the safest viewpoint available, including by drone where it is applicable and the weather allows. Most surveys take about one to two hours for most houses, or half a day or so for a commercial building. Rural addresses near Stonecrouch can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.
- You tell us the address, the type of roof and what’s worrying you.
- We agree a date, including weekends if that suits you.
- We look at the roof from each safe vantage point outside.
- We then look in the loft for damp, staining and the condition of the underlay.
- You receive the report with photos and recommendations, prioritised by urgency.
How to prepare
- Tell us where we can park nearby
- Jot down any questions you want answered
- Move anything stored under the loft hatch
How to book
A quick phone call is normally the easiest start: ring 07833 053749 or send us an email, and we will ask about the building and what you need. The price is agreed before a date is set.

Do you need a roof survey in Stonecrouch?
A blocked gutter does more harm than it looks. Leaves, moss and silt build up, the gutter overflows and water soaks the walls. Hidden gutters behind parapets and in valleys can send water indoors, especially near trees.
These are some of the problems a survey can pick up:
- Gutters that overflow in heavy rain
- Leaning or weathered chimney stacks
- Worn or blocked valleys
- Water stains on rafters and ceiling joists
Landlords with a home close to Etchingham station may find that a dated record of the roof is useful when planning maintenance across a let.
Questions to ask before booking
- Whether the inside of the roof is included
- What’s outside the scope of the survey
- How long the report takes to arrive
- What the report includes, and whether it has photos

Honest limits
Without opening up the roof, some things stay hidden, and that sets some limits:
- Structural calculations (that is a structural engineer’s job)
- Asbestos testing of any kind
- A promise that the roof won’t leak in future

- Chimney stacks
- Natural slate
What we look for on each type of roof
Clay plain and peg tiles
Tile-hanging on walls and dormer cheeks is checked as part of the roof where it is relevant. Loose or missing tiles there let rain into the wall.
Chimney stacks
We look at the stack itself, and it isn’t a flue or gas safety check. If a specialist is needed, we’ll say so.
Should I look at the roof myself first?
Look up at the roof after a storm, from ground level: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Water spilling over the edge can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
