Weston-on-the-Green Roof Survey
A roof condition survey for homes and buildings across Weston-on-the-Green, using drones and thermal imaging where applicable. Call or email for a price.
- Slipped, cracked or missing slates and tiles
- Flashings that have come away from the wall
- Gutters that overflow in heavy rain
Tips from our surveys
From years of surveys, a few habits stand out as worth the effort:
- Move stored items away from the loft hatch
- Look for debris in the garden after high winds
- Include dormers, porches and garages as you book
- File the report with your home documents
Your report arrives by email. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24 to 48 hours for Standard and the same day for Premium. Each finding is set out in plain English, with recommendations.
Check the loft now and then, with care and a good torch. Look for water marks, damp wood and chinks of light. Take photos of anything that changes.
Roof survey in Weston-on-the-Green
Everything we check, we check safely: from the ground, from windows and other vantage points, from inside the loft and from the roof itself where it’s safe. Premium adds thermal imaging, plus a drone inspection where it applies, for roofs that are hard to see well. You do not need to do anything except give us access. Each defect we find is photographed and explained. Common reasons to book are lifted, split or missing lead flashings and gutters that overflow in heavy rain, across clay and concrete tiles, lead flashings and the roof space.
Older buildings in small places like Weston-on-the-Green may be listed or in a conservation area. That can affect what materials can be used when work is done, so check with the council before planning anything. Knowing the roof’s condition helps you plan ahead with that in mind. Older materials like clay tiles, slate and stone are frequently matched when work is done.
We write the report in plain English, so it makes sense without any roofing background. Photographs show what each point refers to.

What happens on the day
Time on site depends on the size and shape of the roof; as a rough guide, the survey takes about one to two hours at most homes, and more on a big or complicated roof. If you have questions on the day, just ask. In a small place like Weston-on-the-Green, access is usually the main thing to plan. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.

- A visit is booked for a weekday or a weekend.

Advice
Common questions in Weston-on-the-Green
Is Weston-on-the-Green within the area you cover?
Yes, Weston-on-the-Green is covered. We work right across London and the South East, from towns to the smallest villages. Longer journeys are simply planned ahead of time.
Is my home in Weston-on-the-Green listed or in a conservation area?
Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
Does a roof survey replace a structural engineer?
No. Where we see something that needs a structural engineer, the report says so. Our survey is not a structural engineer’s report.
What’s covered in a roof inspection?
All the main parts of the roof: the slates or tiles, ridges, valleys, flashings, chimneys, gutters and roof space. Standard adds moisture detection and a structural check, and Premium adds thermal imaging and a drone where applicable.
Do I have to be there for the survey?
If the survey includes the loft or the inside of the building, someone needs to let us in. We will talk about access when you book.
Do you test for asbestos?
No. Asbestos was banned in UK construction in 1999, so older buildings may have it. We flag materials that could contain it, and a specialist asbestos surveyor should check them.
I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?
Yes. A shared roof needs access agreed first. Mention it when you get in touch and we’ll explain what’s needed.
Weston-on-the-Green homes and their roofs
West Oxfordshire’s older buildings often carry Cotswold stone slates, and a few villages in the county keep their thatch. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. On roofs like these, good slates or tiles can outlast the nails, battens, lead and mortar around them. What can be done to an older roof may depend on listing or a conservation area. The council is the place to check, along with Historic England’s list, before anyone quotes for re-roofing.
If you own one of the older houses in the streets near Church of St Mary, the nails, lead and mortar on the roof may be wearing out even where the slates or tiles look fine. If you let a flat or house near Islip station, the gap between tenancies is a good time to have the roof looked at.

What else we do in Weston-on-the-Green
Roof by roof
Concrete interlocking tiles
Concrete interlocking tiles are common on post-war and newer homes. They’re heavy and hard-wearing, but their surfaces weather over the years.
Chimney stacks
Each chimney’s pots, flaunching, pointing and flashings are checked, as far as we can safely see them. We note any lean or loose pots.
Landlords, agents and block managers in Weston-on-the-Green
An agent can book and manage the survey for a landlord. Access is agreed with the tenant beforehand.
If the property is let, the agent or a tenant can let us in, at a time agreed ahead of time. Surveys run seven days a week, which helps when tenants work during the week.
Common roof problems in Weston-on-the-Green
Some damage starts inside the roof space. A badly ventilated loft collects condensation, and the damp gets into timbers and insulation. It can look like a leak, and it needs a different fix.
Here are some of the things we see frequently:
- Flashings that have come away from the wall
- Water stains on rafters and ceiling joists
- Slates or tiles that have slipped or broken
- Cracked mortar along the ridge
If you run a business near Bicester Avenue, a roof report helps plan work around trading rather than after a leak.
Questions to ask before booking
- Will the report include photos?
- What experience they bring
- Whether VAT is added on top
- What insurance they carry
Checking the roof from the ground
A DIY look is useful, but it isn’t a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from ground level.
It’s useful to keep a record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Send it with your enquiry, as it helps us focus the survey.
