How a storm damage roof report works in Little Venice
Storms tend to find the weak points on a roof. Typical damage includes lost slates and tiles, lifted ridges, loose flashings and torn flat roof coverings. Falling branches can cause damage too. We record the damage on your roof and photograph each part. Where we also see signs of older wear, the report records that too. Typical surveys look at damage from fallen branches or debris and slates and tiles blown off the roof, on slate and tile slopes, ridges and hips and gutters and fascias.
Water getting into a London home often comes from a detail you cannot see from the street: a butterfly roof’s central valley gutter, a parapet gutter, a chimney flashing or a flat roof over a back addition. Whether you’re tracing a leak or recording storm damage in Little Venice, those are among the first places to look. A hidden gutter that overflows can send water a long way before it shows.
Report times depend on the survey you book: the Basic Survey within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey on the same day.

What this survey cannot tell you
Some things cannot be seen without opening up the roof, so a survey has limits:
- How your policy defines a storm
- A price for the repairs
- The work of a loss adjuster appointed by your insurer
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will tell you. What a survey covers and does not.
Roof types and parts we check
- Slate and tile slopes
- Ridges and hips
- Flat roofs
- Gutters and fascias
- Chimney stacks
- Flashings
Roof by roof
Ridge and hip tiles
Worn mortar under ridge tiles can let them lift in a storm. Our report says whether it looks freshly damaged or worn over time.
Clay and concrete tiles
Tiles can lift, crack or blow off in high winds. The report shows each damaged area.
How it works
Every roof is different; as a rough guide, the survey takes roughly 1–2 hours at a house, and longer if the damage is spread across a large roof. You are welcome to ask questions while we are there. In Little Venice, visits are available on weekdays and at weekends. It helps if you can point us to a visitor permit or a nearby bay, and to clear a path to the loft hatch. Upstairs rooms at the back are useful too, as they frequently give the best view of a rear addition.
- First you give us the date of the storm and what you’ve noticed, inside and out.
- We view the roof from wherever it can be seen safely, including the loft where there is access.
- The damage is recorded with photos, area by area.
- We note the likely cause, including any signs of wear that were there before the storm.
- We send you a written report with photos, ready to give to your insurer.
How to prepare
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- Check we can get to the back of the property
- Dig out any old roof reports or invoices
How to book

When to book a survey in Little Venice
Roofs that were already worn are more likely to suffer in a storm. Nail fatigue, eroded ridge mortar and tired flashings can all fail in high winds. Our report notes both the storm damage and any older wear.
A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:
- Damage from fallen branches or debris
- New damp or leaks inside
- Gaps where slates or tiles have gone
- Lifted or missing ridge and hip tiles
If you live in an older home near St Saviour's Church, lead flashings, valleys and old chimneys are typical places for water to get in.

What affects the price in Little Venice
Every roof is different, so prices are confirmed before booking. These are the things that affect it:
- House, block, shop or office
- Roof area
- Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
- Which survey package you book
Bigger, taller and commercial roofs take more time to survey, so the price reflects that. The price is confirmed before you book.
What to tell us when you contact us
We’ll typically ask about:
- Photos of the roof, taken safely from ground level or a window
- The reason for the survey, such as buying, a leak or storm damage
- Where water is showing inside, if it is
- Dates you’re working to, such as exchange
Buyers should book once an offer has been accepted, so you have the findings in time to act on them before you exchange. For any other survey, just phone 07833 053749 or send us an email when you are ready.
Common questions in Little Venice
Do you cover Little Venice?
Yes. Our area covers London and South East England, and Little Venice is part of that. You can call 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address and some details.
Will parking be an issue for a roof survey in Little Venice?
It depends on the street. Where there are permit zones, a visitor permit or nearby pay-and-display bay works well, and a driveway is even better.
Can I challenge a declined storm claim?
The first step is a complaint to your insurer. If you are still unhappy, you may be able to take it to the Financial Ombudsman Service. Our report gives you an independent record of the roof, but we can’t say how it will turn out.
How are storm damage reports priced?
Storm damage roof report starts from £150, including VAT. Larger or more complex roofs are quoted for their size. Repair costs are not included, so ask a roofer to quote.
Is there a set wind speed for storm damage?
It varies by policy. About 55 mph is a common figure in many policies, but your policy sets the actual test.
Will my insurer pay out if I get a storm damage report?
That’s not something we can promise. The decision rests with your insurer and its policy. Our report gives you an independent record of the damage and its likely cause.
Do you carry out surveys on Saturdays and Sundays?
We survey on any day from Monday to Sunday, during the day, which suits people who work during the week. Just say which days work for you.
Little Venice roofs and the weather
Welsh slate on Victorian and Edwardian terraces is a familiar sight across inner London. Many have butterfly roofs draining to a central valley gutter, with parapet walls and gutters hidden behind them. Shared chimney stacks, party-wall upstands and lead work come with this kind of house. Knowing the roof type helps narrow down where water may be getting in. About 1 mile north-east lies Winfield House, a reminder of how long the area around Little Venice has been built on. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area.
If you own a rental within reach of London Paddington station, tracing a leak quickly matters when a tenant is living with it. Take a building like Ark Paddington Green Primary Academy: water through a big roof can travel a long way before it drips, so the search covers more than the obvious spot.

What happens if roof problems are left?
If the damage is partly wear and tear, it is better to know. We record storm damage and older defects, so there are no surprises later. Blocked gutters and hoppers on London houses overflow and soak brickwork, which can lead to damp inside. A blocked outlet ignored for a winter or two can mean damp walls inside.
