Storm damage roof report in Walton: what you get
After a storm, safety comes first. Photograph the damage from ground level or a window, and never climb up. If water is coming in, a roofer can put temporary protection in place. Our report records the damage so you have an independent record to give your insurer. Hold on to receipts for anything you pay for. We survey chimney stacks, flat roofs and flashings, and people most frequently book us about holes or cracks caused by debris and damaged gutters and fascias.
For a small place like Walton, the inspection is the same as anywhere: we simply plan the journey and access ahead. It helps to know where the water appears, in what weather, and what you’ve seen outside, plus any earlier repairs. Photos of the stain and of the roof from outside are helpful too.
What you get is a clear record of the roof on the day we saw it. It’s useful straight away, and a good reference for later, for example when you want to check whether anything has changed.

Should I look at the roof myself first?
If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.
Look up at the roof after a storm, from ground level: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
How the survey works
After the inspection, everything we found is written up in a report with photographs, emailed to you. As for time on site, most surveys take about one to two hours for a house, and longer for a large or complex roof. Somewhere like Walton needs a little journey planning: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. On the day, we inspect what can be seen safely, inside and out.
- You tell us when the storm was and what damage you’ve seen.
- The roof is looked at from the ground, from windows and from the roof space where it’s safe.
- We photograph and record every area of damage we can see.
- The likely cause is recorded, along with any evidence of older wear.
- You get a written report you can pass to your insurer.
Before we arrive
- Keep pets inside or away from the areas we’re looking at
- Check we can get to the back of the property
- Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand

Ridge and hip tiles
A lifted ridge tile can let water into the roof. We photograph and describe the damage.

Leaks and storm damage in Walton
Some villages in Buckinghamshire still have thatched roofs. Older houses in the South East often have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles. The covering and its details give the first clues when tracing where water is coming from. Before planning roof work on an older home, find out whether it is listed or in a conservation area. Listed building consent covers changes to a listed building’s special interest, and an Article 4 direction can bring extra controls in a conservation area.
If you look after a shop, office or commercial unit, for instance near Friars Square, water through a ceiling can damage stock and close a sales floor, so the source needs finding fast. If you look after a building such as Aylesbury High School, a leak through a large roof is frequently found some distance from where the water shows inside. If you live in an older home near Holy Trinity, lead flashings, valleys and old chimneys are typical places for water to get in.

Questions from Walton
Is my home in Walton listed or in a conservation area?
The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. It is worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.
Is Walton within the area you cover?
Yes, Walton is covered. We work right across London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.
Will you fly a drone over my roof?
Yes, where it is applicable. Our sub-250g drone is flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID, and the airspace and weather are checked before every flight.
Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?
Yes, if whoever owns or manages the building agrees access. On a shared roof we can only inspect the parts we’re allowed to reach.
What does a storm damage report cost?
A storm damage report starts from £150. Commercial and larger roofs are quoted on size. Repair costs are not part of the report.
Is there a set wind speed for storm damage?
There’s no single figure. Many policies treat gusts of about 55 mph as storm conditions, but it varies. Check your policy wording.
Who handles emergency protection after a storm?
A roofer should handle temporary protection. Photograph the damage first if you can do so safely. Our report then records the roof.
For landlords and managing agents
We survey roofs for landlords and agents as well as householders. The report gives you a dated record of the roof, with photographs, which helps you plan work between tenancies.
A roof problem in a let property affects your tenants as well as the building. A survey shows what needs attention, so you can plan the work.
