Need a storm damage roof report in Queens Park?

When you need someone else

A survey is a careful look at the roof, but it can’t do everything. Its limits include:

  • A decision on your insurance claim
  • Your insurer’s view of the claim
  • Repair costs or quotes for the work

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll tell you before you book. What a survey covers and does not.

What we look at

  • Slate and tile slopes
  • Chimney stacks
  • Ridges and hips
  • Flat roofs
  • Flashings
  • Gutters and fascias

About our storm damage roof report in Queens Park

The Financial Ombudsman asks three questions when it looks at storm complaints: were there storm conditions on or around the date, is the damage consistent with a storm, and was the storm the main cause. Our report focuses on the second and third points. Weather records for the date are for you or your insurer to check. We survey slate and tile slopes, flat roofs and chimney stacks, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are torn or lifted flat roof coverings and loose or torn flashings.

In older homes around places like Queens Park, the underlay may be old bitumen felt, or there may be none at all. Without a sound underlay, any gap in the coverings lets water straight through. Whether it is long-term wear or recent damage makes a difference to what happens next. Wet battens and insulation in the loft are often the first clue.

We write the report in plain English, so it makes sense without any roofing background. Photos show what each point refers to, and recommendations are put with the most urgent first where relevant.

What you can safely check yourself

The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and falls from height are serious. That part is for a survey.

You can learn a lot from ground level. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please do not climb up for a closer look.

Before and after the survey

A survey works best with a little help from you, before and after. Tips:

  • Report the damage to your insurer as soon as you can
  • Hold on to fallen pieces of the roof where you can
  • Don’t go onto the roof to take pictures
  • Keep a note of the date of the storm

After the visit, we write up the report with photographs of each area of damage. It sets out what is damaged, the likely cause and any signs of older wear. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24 to 48 hours for Standard and the same day for Premium.

A well-maintained roof stands up to storms better. Fix slipped slates, loose ridges and lifted flashings when you spot them.

What we do, step by step

Time on site depends on the size and shape of the roof, but as a rough guide the survey takes between one and two hours on an ordinary house, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. If you have questions on the day, just ask. For a survey in Queens Park, we agree the time, the access and parking before the day. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays. Let us know about any garages, outbuildings or extensions you want included.

  1. We note the date of the storm and the damage you’ve seen.
  2. We look at the roof from wherever it’s safe.
  3. We record and photograph the damage.
  4. The report notes whether the damage fits a storm, older wear or both.
  5. You get a written report to pass to your insurer.

Before the survey

  • Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand
  • Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller
  • Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed

What a survey costs

Several things affect the price of a survey:

  • The roof’s overall size
  • Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
  • The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
  • Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey

A small, low roof with good viewpoints takes less time than a tall, complicated one, and the package matters as well. The price is always agreed first.

Getting in touch

We’ll normally ask about:

  • What’s prompted the survey
  • Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
  • Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
  • The kind of building and roof involved

To arrange a survey, ring 07833 053749 or email us and tell us the address and what’s prompted the survey. We’ll confirm the price before you book.

Common questions in Queens Park

Do you cover smaller places like Queens Park?

We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house, with the route planned beforehand.

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Queens Park?

The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. It is worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.

Can you survey a shared roof?

Yes, once whoever controls the roof agrees access. On a shared roof we can only inspect the parts we are allowed to reach.

Are you loss adjusters?

No. We are not loss adjusters, and we do not negotiate claims. We provide an independent record of the roof for you to send to your insurer.

Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?

No. We’re experienced roof surveyors, and our survey covers the roof rather than the whole building. If you need a full building survey, you’ll need a RICS survey as well.

Does someone need to be in?

Not necessarily. If we only need the outside, we can agree that ahead of time, but the loft and any rooms with damp need someone to let us in.

Can you put a tarpaulin over the damage?

Emergency temporary protection is a job for a roofer. Photograph the damage first if you can do so safely. Our report then records the roof.

How the survey changes by roof type

Clay and concrete tiles

Strong gusts can lift and break tiles. The report shows each damaged area.

Slate roofs

Broken slates and slates that have slid out of place are common after a storm. Each area is photographed and described.

Leaks and storm damage in Queens Park

A number of Buckinghamshire villages keep thatched roofs on their older buildings. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. Where water gets in depends a good deal on what the roof is made of and how it’s detailed. Listing and conservation areas can both shape what roof work is allowed on an older home. Your council and Historic England’s list will tell you where you stand.

Anyone responsible for a site like Aylesbury Grammar School will know that tracing a leak on a big roof starts with where the water appears and works back. If you own a rental within reach of Aylesbury station, finding the cause of a leak fast keeps a tenant’s home dry and the work focused. Shop and office owners around Friars Square may find that a leak can close part of a shop or office, so finding the cause quickly matters.
