Thermal roof surveys for homes and businesses in Catslip

Our thermal survey records how the surface temperature varies across your roof. The patterns can suggest wet insulation, gaps in insulation or places where heat is getting out. It is important to know that the camera shows temperature, not water, so findings are checked with moisture readings. It comes as part of our Premium Survey, from £400. The report also notes the conditions on the day, since they affect what the camera can show. We survey insulated roof spaces, pitched roof slopes and ceilings below the roof, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are areas losing heat at the eaves and junctions and moisture around outlets and upstands.

Villages like Catslip frequently stand in open country, where wind can be strong. Strong wind or heavy rain stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.

The report records the roof as we found it on the day. It’s useful right away, and a good reference for later.

Catslip questions

How do I find out if my home in Catslip is listed?

Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it’s worth checking before planning any.

Is Catslip in the area you cover?

Yes. We cover the whole of London and South East England, and Catslip is part of that. You can ring 07833 053749 or email us with the address and some details, and we’ll talk through which survey suits.

Can you survey a shared roof?

Yes, if the building owner or managing agent agrees access. We look at the parts we’re given access to.

Can a thermal survey trace a roof leak?

It’s a useful tool for tracing leaks, but not the only one. What it shows depends on the weather and the roof. Where it cannot be pinned down, the report suggests a next step, such as electronic leak detection.

What can thermal imaging tell me about my roof?

The images show how warm or cool each part of the surface is. Unusual patterns can point to trapped water, gaps in insulation or heat escaping, which we then check with moisture readings.

Which survey includes thermal imaging?

It comes with our Premium Survey, which starts from £400. The Premium Survey also covers a full inspection, drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and a report on the same day.

Can you survey at the weekend?

We survey on any day from Monday to Sunday, during the day. Just say which days work for you.

Airspace, weather and Catslip roofs

The wider area around Catslip has a long history of building, with Greys Court about 2.2 miles south-east. On older houses around here, roofs frequently carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material. Older buildings in west Oxfordshire often have Cotswold stone slate roofs, and some Oxfordshire villages still have thatch. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from the ground, drone photos and thermal images add detail.

Anyone responsible for a site like Nettlebed Community School will know that a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

When to book a survey in Catslip

Buyers sometimes want more than a visual look at the roof. A Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, a drone inspection where it applies and a same-day report, which helps when timescales are tight.

We’re often asked to look at:

  • Heat escaping through the roof
  • Cold areas below the roof
  • Water that travels before it shows
  • Damp around chimneys and parapets

If you live in an older home near Church of St Bartholomew, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.

Choosing a roof surveyor

  • What follow-up you get after the report
  • How they’ll see the roof: from the ground, the loft, the roof or by drone
  • Whether the price includes VAT
  • Their insurance cover

What’s in a roof survey

The survey, step by step

Every visit follows the same pattern: we hear what you’ve seen, inspect the roof from each safe vantage point, take photos as we go and record our findings for the written report. Most visits take an hour or two on an ordinary house, and more on a big or complicated roof. Rural addresses near Catslip can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions are welcome. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.

  1. We start with the roof, its history and any signs of damp or heat loss.
  2. We check the conditions and note how they may affect the images.
  3. A full inspection and thermal imaging are carried out together.
  4. Moisture readings are used to check what the camera shows.
  5. The Premium report reaches you the same day, and we go through it with you in person.

Preparing for the visit

  • Dig out any old roof reports or invoices
  • Jot down any questions you want answered
  • Keep pets out of the way during the survey

Booking a survey

Prices start from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on the roof’s size, access and the package, and you can ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form to find out.

Advice

Checking the roof from ground level

After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Don’t go up yourself.

The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and a fall can be serious. That part is for a survey, using safe viewpoints and a drone where it applies.

Tips from our surveys

There’s plenty you can do without going near the roof. Here’s what helps most:

  • Leave the roof to people with safe access
  • Move stored items away from the loft hatch
  • Keep a record of when stains appear
  • Check outlets after heavy rain

The report explains the conditions on the day and how they affected the images. It helps you judge how firm each finding is.

Watch for new damp patches on ceilings beneath the roof. Catching a leak early stops insulation getting soaked.

What affects the price in Catslip

Not every roof costs the same to survey, for these reasons:

  • Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
  • Commercial roofs and larger buildings
  • Building height and the viewpoints available
  • Which survey package you book

We offer three survey packages: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, with VAT included. What your roof costs depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.

What we need to know

The more you tell us, the easier it is to price the survey. When you get in touch, it helps to mention:

  • What made you get in touch
  • Any deadline, such as an exchange date
  • Where water is showing inside, if it is
  • Anything about access we should know

Buyers should book once an offer has been accepted, so there is time to use the report before exchange. Otherwise, simply phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form whenever suits you.

What we cannot see

It’s a careful look at the roof, not the whole story. Its limits include:

  • Whether the deck or roof structure is strong enough
  • A formal energy assessment
  • What’s inside walls or under coverings, without opening up

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll tell you. What our survey covers.
