About our thermal roof survey in East Garston Woodlands
Thermal imaging is part of our Premium Survey, which starts from £400. It also includes a drone inspection where applicable, a structural analysis and a same-day report. There is an in-person consultation as well, plus a follow-up 12 months later. To book, just call 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address and what you’ve noticed. Larger commercial roofs are quoted for their size. Typical surveys look at moisture around outlets and upstands and water that travels before it shows, across pitched roof slopes, insulated roof spaces and ceilings below the roof.
Somewhere as small as East Garston Woodlands, older roofs are frequently steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you cannot get from ground level. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first, and the journey is planned beforehand. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.
The written findings come by email, ready to forward to whoever needs them. Basic reports come within 48 hours, Standard within 24–48 hours and Premium on the day.

Different roofs, different checks
Parapets, valleys and junctions
Parapet and valley gutters can overflow inside a building. We use the camera and moisture readings to help follow it.
GRP fibreglass roofs
Water under a GRP roof can reach the timber deck. The camera can help show where to look.
Before and after the survey
A survey works best with a little help from you, before and after. Some tips:
- Heat the home normally on the days before
- Use the report as a baseline for later checks
- Clear leaves from outlets and gutters each autumn
- Let us know where and when you’ve seen damp or stains
Many people send the report to roofers, who can then quote for the areas shown. Each thermal image is matched to a normal photo, so the areas are easy to locate.
Clear outlets and gutters regularly, so water does not sit on the roof. The less water sits, the less can find its way beneath.
Leave it or get it looked at?
The longer moisture sits in a roof, the more it can affect timbers and finishes below. Looking now, while the damage may still be limited, keeps more options open. Older and listed buildings around East Garston Woodlands may need consent and matching materials for repairs, so a defect found early gives time to plan the work properly.
Bigger, taller and commercial roofs take more time to survey, so they’re priced to match. You’ll know the figure before booking.

What happens on the day
We photograph the roof as we go, so you can see in the report what we found and where. We take close-ups from wherever is safe, including by drone where it is applicable and the weather allows. Most surveys take an hour or two for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. In a small place like East Garston Woodlands, access is usually the main thing to plan. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Weekday and weekend visits are available.
- First we go over the roof, the problem you’ve noticed and the conditions forecast for the visit.
- We carry out a visual inspection of the roof from wherever it can be seen safely.
- We take thermal images of the roof to pick up temperature patterns.
- Areas that look unusual on the camera are checked with moisture readings where possible.
- The report sets out the images, what they suggest and what we recommend.
Getting ready for the survey
- Leave side gates unlocked
- Tell us about parking before the day
- Keep pets inside or away from the areas we’re looking at

Drones, thermal imaging and East Garston Woodlands roofs
Older houses in the South East often have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles, and flat-roofed additions turn up almost everywhere. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from ground level, drone photos and thermal images add detail. What can be done to an older roof may depend on listing or a conservation area. Your council and Historic England’s list will tell you where you stand, ideally before any re-roofing is planned.
Take an older house close to St Mary's Church: thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image. Around East Garston Woodlands, as everywhere, small roof faults are simplest to sort before they let water in.

- Proving moisture from the images alone
- What’s inside walls or under coverings, without opening up

East Garston Woodlands questions
Is East Garston Woodlands in the area you cover?
Yes. We survey roofs across London and South East England, and East Garston Woodlands is part of that. You can call 07833 053749 or email us with the address and some details.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in East Garston Woodlands?
We cannot confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.
Will I get photos?
Yes, every report has them. Each finding is shown in a picture where possible, which makes the report easy to follow.
How long have you been surveying roofs?
More than 5,000 surveys over 20+ years, across London and South East England.
What does the report include?
Written findings with photographs, covering the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend. The Standard Survey adds moisture detection and a structural check, and the Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable and structural analysis.
Can you survey at the weekend?
Surveys run on weekdays and at weekends. To arrange a date, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email.
Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?
Yes, once whoever controls the roof agrees access. We check the parts we are given access to, and the report makes that clear.
Checking the roof from ground level
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
Keep a simple record: dates of leaks, photos from the ground and any work done on the roof. Send it with your enquiry, as it helps us focus the survey.
