Thermal roof surveys in Furzey Lodge

Thermal roof surveys for homes and businesses in Furzey Lodge

Our thermal survey records how the surface temperature varies across your roof. Those patterns can point to trapped moisture, missing insulation or heat escaping. It’s important to know that the camera shows temperature, not water, so findings are checked with moisture readings. Thermal imaging is included in our Premium Survey, from £400. The report also notes the conditions on the day, since they affect what the camera can show. Common reasons to book are ceilings that feel colder in places and damp that repairs haven’t cured, on commercial roofs, ceilings below the roof and loft conversions.

Older buildings in small places like Furzey Lodge may be listed or in a conservation area. A look from the air or with a thermal camera doesn’t touch the roof, so it is a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof, before anyone decides what work it needs. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.

We write the report in plain English, so you do not need to be a roofer to follow it. Photos show what each point refers to, and recommendations are put by urgency where it matters.

Flying and imaging in Furzey Lodge

Furzey Lodge is within about 4 miles of the coast, and wind off the sea can be strong. Clear thermal results need a dry roof and little wind after a sunny day, so the date depends on the forecast. If your survey includes the drone, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying.

Beaulieu Palace House, about 1.2 miles east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Furzey Lodge. A drone or thermal survey doesn’t involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings.

Furzey Lodge is about 5 miles south-west of Hythe, in Hampshire. Surveys in Furzey Lodge work the same way as everywhere we cover: a proper look at what can be seen safely, photos and a clear written report. Furzey Lodge is one of the places in Hampshire where we work. Our Southampton page covers surveys nearby.

Tips from our surveys

There’s plenty you can do without going near the roof. Here’s what helps most:

  • Check the loft can be reached safely
  • Keep outlets and gutters clear to stop water sitting
  • Photograph damp patches with the date
  • Talk to us about the weather when booking

Many people send the report to roofers, who can then quote for the areas shown. Each thermal image is matched to a normal photo, so the areas are easy to locate.

After repairs or a new covering, a later survey can confirm things are dry, when the conditions are suitable.

DIY checks: what’s safe

Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Photograph them and note the date.

Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.

When to book a survey in Furzey Lodge

After a long-running leak, insulation under a flat roof can stay wet. Owners want to know how far it has spread before deciding what to do. A thermal survey, checked with moisture readings, can give a much clearer picture.

People normally book a survey after spotting one of these:

  • Areas of a flat roof that may hold water
  • Leaks that are hard to trace
  • Damp where roofs meet walls and chimneys
  • Areas losing heat at the eaves and junctions

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Beaulieu Village Primary School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

Before you book any roof surveyor

  • Their report turnaround times
  • Their insurance cover
  • How long they’ve been surveying roofs
  • Do they have a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID for drone work?

What a roof survey includes

Roof by roof

Parapets, valleys and junctions

Parapet and valley gutters can overflow inside a building. Thermal images, checked with moisture readings, can help trace it.

GRP fibreglass roofs

Water under a GRP roof can reach the timber deck. Thermal imaging can suggest where that may be happening.

How it works

The aim of the visit is simple: to look at the roof as closely as is safe and record what we find. Notes and photographs go into the written report. The visit usually takes about 1–2 hours on an ordinary house, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. Cottages and farmhouses around Furzey Lodge frequently have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints, and anything we can’t see is noted.

  1. We start with the roof, its history and any signs of damp or heat loss.
  2. The weather and surface conditions are recorded.
  3. A full inspection and thermal imaging are carried out together.
  4. We back up the thermal patterns with moisture readings.
  5. You get the report the same day, with an in-person consultation to follow.

Advice

Furzey Lodge: your questions answered

How do I find out if my home in Furzey Lodge is listed?

The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it’s worth checking before planning any.

Do you cover Furzey Lodge?

Yes, Furzey Lodge is one of the places we work. Every survey there gets the same written report with photographs.

Does the weather affect a thermal survey?

The results depend on the weather. A dry surface, little wind and a sunny spell beforehand help most. Our report notes the conditions and how they affected the findings.

What does a thermal roof survey show?

A thermal camera shows differences in surface temperature. The patterns can suggest wet insulation, gaps in insulation or heat escaping. Findings are checked with moisture readings.

How much does a thermal roof survey cost?

It comes with our Premium Survey, which starts from £400. That also includes a full inspection, a drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and a same-day report.

Do I need to be at home?

Not always. An outside-only look can be arranged beforehand, but anything inside needs someone there to give access.

Can you use a thermal camera on a sloping roof?

On pitched roofs, the camera can point to heat loss and some damp patterns. Our report is clear about what can be read from them, and we check them with a visual inspection and moisture readings.

When you need someone else

Before booking, it is worth knowing what a survey will not do:

  • Hidden layers that need to be opened up to check
  • Structural calculations, which need a structural engineer
  • Confirming water without moisture readings

If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll suggest the right survey before you book. What our survey covers.
