Thermal roof survey in Hacton: what you get
A thermal survey isn’t a quick fix for every roof problem. It shows surface temperature, and things like sun, shade, reflections and wind all affect the readings. We back up the images with moisture readings and a careful look at the roof. The report is clear about what the images show and what they don’t. If a finding can’t be confirmed, the report suggests a next step. If you’ve noticed thin or uneven insulation in the roof and heat escaping through the roof, we can find out what’s behind it, on pitched roof slopes, ceilings below the roof and commercial roofs alike.
Flying in London takes more checking than most places: restriction zones surround Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs have restricted areas of their own. Before a drone goes up in Hacton, the address is checked against all of them, and where permission is needed, the flight waits for it.
We keep jargon out of it: if work is needed, the report says so clearly, and where it can wait, that is said too.

Tips from our surveys
Getting the most from a thermal roof survey starts before we arrive and carries on afterwards. Tips:
- Keep a record of when stains appear
- Photograph damp patches with the date
- Leave the roof to people with safe access
- Clear a path to the loft hatch before we arrive
Where a pattern cannot be confirmed, the report says what could help, such as electronic leak detection or opening up a small area.
Keep outlets and gutters clear so water drains off the roof quickly. Less standing water means less chance of it getting under the covering.
What we do, step by step
On the day, we start by asking what you’ve noticed and what you need to know. After that, we look at everything we can see safely, using the ground, windows, the loft and a drone where applicable. The survey normally takes an hour or two for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. In Hacton, as in much of London, lots of properties are flats or terraces without side access, so rear slopes are viewed from windows, the loft or, where a flight is allowed, by drone. If the building has a managing agent or access rules, tell us when you book.
- First we go over the roof, the problem you’ve noticed and the conditions forecast for the visit.
- The roof is inspected visually from safe viewpoints.
- A thermal camera records how the surface temperature varies across the roof.
- Areas that look unusual on the camera are checked with moisture readings where possible.
- You get a report with thermal images, photos and our recommendations.
How to prepare
- For flats, check roof access has been agreed
- Keep pets out of the way during the survey
- Find any records of previous roof work

Thermal roof surveys in Hacton: local notes
If the drone is used for your survey, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying. The wider area around Hacton has a long history of building, with Rainham Hall about 2.1 miles south-west. On older houses around here, roofs frequently carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material.
For businesses in and around places such as The Brewery, a commercial roof can be photographed from above without anyone walking on it. If your home is one of the older ones in the streets near St Matthews Church Hall, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help. Controlled parking zones are common in London, so mention any permit rules for Hacton, along with any off-street space.

Roof by roof
Loft insulation
Insulation often gets moved during work in the loft. Thermal images can show where it has been pushed aside.
Pitched slate and tile roofs
From inside the loft, the camera can help with damp around chimneys, valleys and roof windows. We check any patterns with moisture readings.
Prices for thermal roof surveys in Hacton
To price your survey, we check:
- The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium
- The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
- The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
- Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
Every price we give includes VAT. Thermal roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. You will know the price for the job before you book.
What we need to know
A little information up front helps. It’s useful to include:
- Dates you are working to, such as exchange
- What kind of property and roof it is
- The address and postcode of the property
- Whether there’s a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access
Once you know what you need, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form. From there it’s a case of choosing a package, agreeing the price and fixing a day.
Why act early in Hacton
Before replacing a large flat roof, it’s useful to know how much of it is actually wet. Images backed by moisture readings show where problems seem to be before you spend. London’s older roofs often have bitumen felt underlay or none at all, so a slipped slate can soon mean water inside. Left alone, that means wet timbers and plaster, which is a far bigger job than the roof fault itself.
One thing that affects the price is the package: from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, inc. VAT. The roof’s size, height and access matter as well.

Hacton questions
Is drone flying allowed in Hacton?
Usually it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. London’s airspace includes flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Every London address is checked against them before a flight. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather, and the rest of the survey doesn’t depend on the drone.
Is parking a problem for a survey in Hacton?
It rarely stops a survey, but it is worth planning. Let us know the parking rules on your street and we will work around them.
Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?
No. Asbestos surveys and sampling aren’t something we do. The report may flag materials that could contain asbestos on buildings built or refurbished before 2000, with a recommendation to have a specialist asbestos surveyor check before it’s disturbed.
Will the camera show exactly where the water is?
The camera does not see water itself. Because wet insulation holds heat for longer, it can show as a different temperature, but we check each finding with moisture readings.
What’s the best way to book?
It’s easiest to ring 07833 053749 or send us an email. Give us the address and some details about the roof. We survey seven days a week.
Are you insured?
Our surveys are covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance. Ask if you need details for a managing agent or building owner.
Can you use a thermal camera on a sloping roof?
It can help, but the results are often less clear than on a flat roof. The air space under slates and tiles can hide patterns, so we also look from the loft where it’s safe.
Should I look at the roof myself first?
What you can’t do safely is get up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and falls from height are serious. That part is for a survey.
Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Water spilling over the edge can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
