Independent thermal roof surveys in Rise Park

How a thermal roof survey works in Rise Park

A thermal imaging roof survey uses a thermal camera to show differences in surface temperature across a roof. Those patterns can point to trapped moisture, missing insulation or heat escaping. The camera does not see water itself, so findings are checked with moisture readings. Thermal imaging is included in our Premium Survey, from £400. Conditions on the day affect the results, and the report explains how. If you’re worried about areas of a flat roof that may hold water and damp that repairs haven’t cured, we can find out what’s behind it, whatever the roof.

Many London roofs are hidden from the pavement: butterfly roofs behind parapets, dormer tops and flat roofs over back additions. That’s where a view from the air or a thermal camera helps, by showing what can’t be reached safely. The weather decides the day: both drones and thermal cameras need the right conditions. Thermal images show surface temperature, not water itself, so findings are checked with moisture readings.

With the Standard Survey, you also get moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

Questions from Rise Park

How do I find out if my home in Rise Park is listed?

The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it’s worth checking before planning any.

Can parking be tricky for a visit in Rise Park?

It can be, so it helps to tell us about permits, visitor bays or off-street space when booking. That way the visit can be planned around it.

Can you check my loft insulation with a thermal camera?

The camera can point to heat loss and gaps in insulation. We don’t give energy ratings or heat loss calculations, but the images show where improvements may help.

Does thermal imaging detect leaks directly?

Not directly. It shows temperature, and wet materials frequently behave differently from dry ones. We confirm what it suggests with moisture readings.

How does a thermal imaging roof survey work?

It records surface temperature across the roof. Differences can suggest wet areas, missing insulation or heat loss, and we check them with moisture readings.

Are you insured?

Every survey is covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance, and details are available on request.

How much does a thermal roof survey cost?

It comes with our Premium Survey, which starts from £400. The Premium Survey also covers a full inspection, drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and a report on the same day.

DIY checks: what’s safe

It is useful to keep a record: dates of leaks, photos from ground level and any work done on the roof. Share it with us as you book.

What you cannot do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and falls from height are serious. That part is for a survey, using safe viewpoints and a drone where applicable.

What this survey can’t tell you

It is useful to know what a survey will not do before booking:

  • An energy rating for the building
  • A structural engineer’s assessment
  • Proving moisture from the images alone

If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will suggest the right survey before you book. The full list of what we check.

What we look at

  • Insulated roof spaces
  • Commercial roofs
  • Pitched roof slopes
  • Loft conversions
  • Flat roofs
  • Ceilings below the roof

What we do, step by step

Time on site depends on the size and shape of the roof; as a rough guide, the survey takes an hour or two for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. If you have questions on the day, just ask. In converted houses and mansion blocks, the loft hatch is often on a shared landing. If that applies to your building, it helps to agree access with the neighbours or the managing agent first. Everything else is planned around the building, not the postcode.

  1. We go through the roof, the problem and the weather expected on the day.
  2. The roof is inspected visually from safe positions.
  3. Thermal images are taken across the roof and, where there’s safe access, in the loft.
  4. We take moisture readings where the images suggest a problem.
  5. Each image is set beside a normal photo and explained in the report.

Before we arrive

  • Move anything stored under the loft hatch
  • If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
  • Let us know about parking before the day

What we are asked to look at in Rise Park

Some defects simply cannot be seen with the eye. Wet insulation, gaps in insulation and heat loss are often invisible from outside. Thermal imaging gives us another way to look for them.

Common reasons to book include:

  • Wet insulation beneath the membrane
  • Damp patches with no obvious cause
  • Patches of heat loss across the roof
  • Leaks that are hard to trace

If your home is one of the older ones in the streets near St James, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Is there a chance to talk the report through?
  • Will they check the loft as well as the outside?
  • How long they’ve been surveying roofs
  • Which parts of the roof they’ll actually see

What to expect from a roof survey

Thermal roof surveys around Rise Park

About 1.3 miles south-east lies Hare Hall, a reminder of how long the area around Rise Park has been built on. Older homes in the wider area often have features worth a closer look, like lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first. If the drone is used for your survey, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying.

Controlled parking zones are common in London, so mention any permit rules for Rise Park. Anyone responsible for a site like Rise Park Infant School will know that a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

Why it’s worth a survey now in Rise Park

Without thermal imaging, the only way to see how far water has spread is frequently to open up the roof. It helps when deciding whether to patch an area or replace the roof. A hidden valley or parapet gutter on a London house can hold water for weeks before anyone notices. By the time a ceiling stains, the timbers underneath may have been wet for a while.

What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how it can be reached and seen safely. Our price is from £400, including VAT.

Practical tips

A little preparation and a few simple habits help. Our tips:

  • Check from the ground or a window, never by climbing
  • Keep outlets and gutters clear to stop water sitting
  • Talk to us about the weather when booking
  • Check the loft can be reached safely

Many people send the report to roofers, who can then quote for the areas shown. Each thermal image is matched to a normal photo, so the areas are easy to locate.

Keep an eye on ceilings under the roof for new stains. Catching a leak early stops insulation getting soaked.
