West Hendred Thermal Roof Survey
A careful look at the roof at your property in West Hendred, with photos and a written report.
- Damp around roof outlets and upstands
- Areas losing heat at the eaves and junctions
- Leaks that are hard to trace
What we can’t see
Before you book, it is worth knowing what a survey will not do:
- Clear results when the conditions on the day are poor
- Whether the deck or roof structure is strong enough
- Confirming water without moisture readings
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll tell you before booking. What a survey covers and doesn’t.
Roof types and parts we check

- Commercial roofs
- Loft conversions

- Ceilings below the roof
Thermal roof surveys for homes and businesses in West Hendred
A thermal camera can help when the cause of damp is not obvious. Leaks often run along a roof before they appear on a ceiling, and temperature patterns can help us trace where it may have come from. We combine the images with a visual inspection and moisture readings, so no conclusion rests on one method alone. If you are worried about wet insulation beneath the membrane and wet areas near outlets and upstands, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.
Somewhere as small as West Hendred, older roofs are frequently steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what can’t be reached safely. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.
The Standard Survey adds moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

Roof by roof
Single-ply and EPDM roofs
Thin membranes can show patterns from the layers beneath. Shiny surfaces can reflect heat, so we take care reading the images.
Loft insulation
From inside the loft, thermal imaging can show gaps in insulation and cold spots. We look where there’s safe access.
Thermal roof surveys in West Hendred: local notes
Where the drone is part of the survey, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. Cotswold stone slates are found on older buildings in west Oxfordshire, and thatch survives in some of the county’s villages. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from the ground, drone photos and thermal images add detail.
Take an older house close to Church of the Holy Trinity: tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement. If you look after a building like The Hendreds Church of England School, big roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images show the most at once.
West Hendred is about 3 miles east of Wantage, in Oxfordshire. In West Hendred, as across Oxfordshire, every roof gets the same careful survey. West Hendred is one of the towns and villages in Oxfordshire where we work for thermal roof surveys. There’s also a page for Oxford.
Thermal roof surveys in OX12 work the same way as everywhere else we cover. Local streets include Bankside, The Greenway and The Millham, all of which we cover. We also cover East Hendred (1 mile east), Ardington (1 mile west), East Lockinge (1 mile south-west), Rowstock (2 miles east) and West Ilsley (4 miles south-east). Around West Hendred
We work in homes and buildings around The Hare pub, among other places. For rail, the closest station is Didcot Parkway station, roughly 4.9 miles east. Other landmarks nearby include Abingdon Community Hospital (5.5 miles north-east) and Atlas Computer Laboratory (2.2 miles south-east). Not far away are Chain Hill and Mowbray Fields.
What happens if roof problems are left?
If a big flat roof may need replacing, knowing the wet areas first is useful. Images backed by moisture readings show where problems seem to be before you spend. In a small place like West Hendred, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.
Price depends partly on the package: from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, with VAT included. Size, height and access can affect the price too.

Surveys for landlords and agents in West Hendred
Letting agents can arrange access with tenants. We survey seven days a week, which can make access easier.
Shared roofs need a little more planning: access has to be agreed with whoever owns or manages the building. Tell us about it when you book and we’ll plan the visit with that in mind.
West Hendred questions
Do you cover West Hendred?
Yes. Our area covers London and South East England, and West Hendred is part of that. You can ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address and some details, and we will talk through which survey suits.
Will you come out to West Hendred?
Yes, West Hendred is covered. We cover the whole of London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
Is thermal imaging useful on pitched roofs?
On pitched roofs, the camera can point to heat loss and some damp patterns. We explain what the images can and cannot tell you, and we check them with a visual inspection and moisture readings.
Are you structural engineers?
No. We point out what can be seen, like sagging or deflection, but we are not structural engineers and don’t carry out calculations. Where an engineer is needed, we say so in the report.
What can thermal imaging tell me about my roof?
A thermal camera shows differences in surface temperature. The patterns can suggest wet insulation, gaps in insulation or heat escaping. We check what it shows with moisture readings.
Does this replace a RICS home survey?
No. We look at the roof, not the whole building, so it’s not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. Many buyers have both.
When does the report arrive?
Basic reports arrive within 48 hours, Standard reports in 24–48 hours and Premium reports on the same day. All of them come by email.

What happens on the day
The visit usually starts outside and finishes in the loft: first the slopes, edges and gutters from every safe viewpoint, then the roof space where it can be reached. In total, it takes between one and two hours at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. Around West Hendred, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so it helps to know whether there’s a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.
- We go through the roof, the problem and the weather expected on the day.
- The roof is inspected visually from safe positions.
- Thermal images are taken across the roof and, where there is safe access, in the loft.
- We take moisture readings where the images suggest a problem.
- The report pairs each thermal image with a photo and explains what it suggests.
How to prepare
- Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
- Check pets are kept safely away
- Agree roof access with the managing agent if it’s shared

Advice
Can I check my roof myself?
It helps to keep a record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Send it with your enquiry, as it helps us focus the survey.
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and a fall can be serious. That part is for a survey.
