About our drone roof survey in West Hendred
Some roofs are hard or unsafe to reach. A drone takes close-up photos of those roofs from the air. You see slates, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters in detail, including slopes that can’t be seen from the street. The photos go into a written report. It’s also a good option where walking on the roof could break slates or tiles. If we cannot fly, we tell you why. If you’re worried about blocked valleys and parapet gutters and lead work pulling away at abutments, we can find out what’s behind it.
Somewhere as small as West Hendred, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what cannot be reached safely. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.
The Standard Survey adds moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

What you can safely check yourself
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and falls from height are serious. That part is for a survey, using safe viewpoints and a drone where applicable.

Tips that help
A little preparation and a few simple habits help, both for the survey and for the roof itself. Some pointers:
- Expect us to rearrange if it’s too windy or wet
- Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too
- Allow time for permission if you’re in a flight restriction zone
- Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
Your report arrives by email, with close-up photographs from the flight. Each finding is explained in plain words, and recommendations are ranked by urgency where that helps.
Have high or hard-to-reach roofs surveyed every few years. Comparing surveys shows what is wearing, and early repairs keep water out.
What happens on the day
Expect us to ask a few questions before we start, about the roof’s history, any leaks and past repairs. Then the inspection itself takes roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. Older roofs in small places like West Hendred can have low, tight loft spaces, so it’s useful to know whether there’s a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. We only go where it’s safe.
- We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
- We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
- On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
- Close-up photos are taken of each slope, chimney, valley and gutter, with the drone always in view.
- We email the report with close-up photos and recommendations.
Getting ready for the survey
- Leave a clear route to the loft
- If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
- Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller
Arrange a survey
If you have photos of the roof, send them over. Take them safely from the ground or a window, and please do not climb up for a closer look. To get started, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

Do you need a drone roof survey in West Hendred?
The top of a stack is the most exposed part of many roofs. Cracked flaunching, loose pots and eroded pointing are frequently invisible from below. Close-up drone photos show their condition.
A survey can pick up problems such as:
- Ridge and hip pieces working loose
- Slates or tiles shifted by high winds
- Coverings that have slipped high up on the roof
- Ponding and splits on a high flat roof
If yours is one of the older homes in the streets near Church of the Holy Trinity, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that is where a view from the air or with a thermal camera helps.
Before you book any roof surveyor
- Will the report include photos?
- How long they’ve been surveying roofs
- Whether the loft space is looked at, where there is one
- Do they have a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID for drone work?
West Hendred: your questions answered
Do you cover smaller places like West Hendred?
Yes. West Hendred is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our area covers London and South East England. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when booking.
Are there drone restrictions around West Hendred?
The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.
Can you survey a shared roof?
Yes. Shared roofs just need a little more planning. Tell us about it when you book and we’ll plan the survey around it.
What happens next?
We email you the written report with photos and recommendations. It’s yours to share with a seller, insurer, roofer or managing agent, whichever applies.
Will you photograph what you find?
Yes, every report has them. Each finding is shown in a picture where possible, which makes the report easy to follow.
Can you survey in bad weather?
Light rain doesn’t typically stop a survey, and it can even help show where water is getting in. Heavy rain or strong wind can ground a drone and make the roof unsafe, so if conditions are not right we’ll arrange another day with you.
Do you look in the roof space?
If the survey needs it and the roof space can be reached safely, yes. Please clear anything stored under the hatch, and if the loft cannot be reached safely, the report says so.

Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight.
Anyone responsible for a site like The Hendreds Church of England School will know that thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.

Honest limits

- A flight where airspace permission is refused
- Anything inside the loft or under the coverings
- Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll point you to the right survey before you book. What a survey covers and does not.
What this survey covers
- Large and complex roofs
- Tall and steep roofs
- Flat roofs on upper floors
- Chimney stacks
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Fragile roofs
How we price drone roof surveys
The price reflects the time and kit the roof needs. That comes down to:
- How big the roof is
- House, block, shop or office
- Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
- Basic, Standard or Premium
Bigger, taller and commercial roofs take more time to survey, so they’re priced to match. You will know the figure before booking.
Getting in touch
A little information up front helps. It is useful to include:
- Dates you are working to, such as exchange
- Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
- Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
- Anything about access we should know
Our price is from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on the roof’s size, access and the package, and you can phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email to find out.
