Drone roof survey in Ardington

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. A drone inspection, where applicable, is also part of our Premium Survey, along with structural analysis, a same-day report and an in-person consultation. There’s a 12-month follow-up as well. We will tell you if a drone is not the right tool for your roof. Every drone survey comes with a written report and close-up photographs. We’re often asked to look into cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below and lifted or split lead flashings, across fragile roofs, large and complex roofs and tall and steep roofs.

In a village or hamlet like Ardington, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what can’t be reached safely. Weather and airspace are checked ahead of the visit, and the journey is planned beforehand. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.

Most points in the report come with a picture, because a photo of a cracked flashing says more than a paragraph. If something couldn’t be seen safely, the report is clear about it.

FAQs for Ardington

Are there drone restrictions around Ardington?

Normally it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. Strong wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.

How do I find out if my home in Ardington is listed?

Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.

How experienced are you?

Over 20 years and more than 5,000 surveys, across London and South East England.

Do you cover Ardington?

Yes. We cover Ardington and the rest of Oxfordshire, as part of our work across London and the South East. To book, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

When does the report arrive?

Each package has its own report time. Basic: within 48 hours. Standard: 24 to 48 hours. Premium: the same day. If you have a deadline, such as an exchange date, let us know when you book.

Is this an asbestos survey?

No. Asbestos surveys and testing are not part of what we do. We flag materials that could contain asbestos, such as cement sheets or soffits on pre-2000 buildings and suggest a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before any work.

Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?

Yes, once whoever controls the roof agrees access. On a shared roof we can only inspect the parts we’re allowed to reach, and the report makes that clear.

What a survey costs

To price your survey, we look at:

  • The height of the building and how the roof can safely be seen
  • House, block, shop or office
  • How many separate roofs there are, like extensions, dormers and garages
  • The size of the roof

Our price is from £400, including VAT. The final price depends on the size and height of the roof, how it can safely be seen and which survey you book.

What to tell us when you contact us

If you can, have these to hand when you contact us:

  • Your timetable, such as an exchange date
  • Any photos you have, taken from the ground or a window
  • Access details, like a loft hatch or a shared roof
  • Any marks or damp showing indoors

What we look for on each type of roof

Ridges and hips

Some ridges are fixed with mortar, others with dry-fix systems. We record what we see of their condition.

Flat roofs on tall buildings

Leaks often start at outlets, edges and around plant. They’re all captured in close-up.

What we’re asked to look at in Ardington

Not every roof can take a person’s weight. Older slates and tiles break easily, and fragile sheet roofs are dangerous to walk on. A drone lets us see them closely without touching them.

A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:

  • Worn lead at chimneys and walls
  • Coverings that have slipped high up on the roof
  • Ridge and hip pieces working loose
  • Eroded pointing on a chimney stack

If you look after a building such as Wantage Primary Academy, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.

Before booking any roof surveyor

  • Which limits apply to the survey
  • How soon the report will arrive
  • What insurance they carry
  • Will they check the loft as well as the outside?

What’s in a roof survey

What we do, step by step

We work from the outside in: first the slopes, edges and gutters from every safe viewpoint, then the roof space where it can be reached. All told, expect about 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. For a village or hamlet like Ardington, the journey is planned in advance: let us know about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. On the day, we inspect whatever is safely visible, inside and out.

  1. First comes the address, plus a note of what worries you about the roof.
  2. Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
  3. We assess the conditions and the take-off spot first.
  4. Close-up photos are taken of each slope, chimney, valley and gutter, with the drone always in view.
  5. You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Jot down any questions you want answered
  • Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand
  • Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors

Can I check my roof myself?

What you can’t do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and a fall can be serious. That’s where a survey comes in, using safe viewpoints and a drone where it applies.

Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Take a photo and write down when you saw it, which helps when we look at the roof.

Drone roof surveys in Ardington: local notes

The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight. Older buildings in west Oxfordshire frequently have Cotswold stone slate roofs, and some Oxfordshire villages still have thatch. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these.

If you live in an older home near Church of the Holy Trinity, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.

What happens if roof problems are left?

Close-up photos make conversations with roofers clearer. You can show exactly where the problem is, which helps when you ask for quotes. Outbuildings and barns around Ardington are easy to forget, but a failed roof there can spoil what’s stored inside. It’s worth including them in a survey before a winter does the damage.
