Thermal roof surveys in Weyhill

When you need someone else

Every survey has limits, and we’d rather be clear about that before you book. Keep these in mind:

  • Clear results when the conditions on the day are poor
  • The condition of timbers we cannot see
  • Confirming water without moisture readings

If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll suggest the right survey before you book. The full list of what we check.

What this survey covers

How a thermal roof survey works in Weyhill

Our Premium Survey, from £400, brings together a full roof inspection and thermal imaging. You also get a drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and a report on the same day. An in-person consultation and a 12-month follow-up are included too. You can ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and a note of what you’ve noticed. For big commercial roofs, we quote on size and access. If you’ve noticed ceilings that feel colder in places and heat escaping through the roof, we can find out what’s behind it.

In a village or hamlet like Weyhill, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you cannot get from the ground. Weather and airspace are looked at before the visit. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.

How fast the report arrives depends on the package: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day.

The survey, step by step

Time on site depends on the size and shape of the roof; as a rough guide, the survey takes roughly 1–2 hours at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. You’re welcome to ask questions while we’re there. Somewhere like Weyhill needs a little journey planning: let us know about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. On the day, we inspect everything that’s safely in view, inside and out.

  1. First we go over the roof, the problem you’ve noticed and the conditions forecast for the visit.
  2. The roof is inspected visually from safe viewpoints.
  3. We take thermal images of the roof to pick up temperature patterns.
  4. Areas that look unusual on the camera are checked with moisture readings where possible.
  5. The report sets out the images, what they suggest and what we recommend.

How the survey changes by roof type

Single-ply and EPDM roofs

On larger commercial single-ply roofs, thermal imaging can help target moisture readings. That makes the survey more focused.

GRP fibreglass roofs

Water can get through cracked GRP into the deck. We combine a visual check of cracks with the thermal images around them.

Do you need a thermal roof survey in Weyhill?

Some owners book because the rooms under the roof feel cold. Missing or slipped insulation can stand out as temperature differences, particularly when it’s warm inside and cold outside.

It is worth booking a survey if you’ve seen:

  • Cold spots on ceilings under the roof
  • Damp that repairs haven’t cured
  • Heat escaping through the roof
  • Thin or uneven insulation in the roof

Around Weyhill, as everywhere, small roof faults are simplest to sort before they let water in.

Questions to ask before booking

  • Is there a chance to talk the report through?
  • What’s outside the scope of the survey
  • Their report turnaround times
  • How long they’ve been surveying roofs

What to expect from a roof survey

Useful tips for Weyhill property owners

A survey works best with a little help from you, before and after. Some tips:

  • Talk to us about the weather when booking
  • Photograph damp patches with the date
  • Move stored items away from the loft hatch
  • File the images with your roof records

Buyers can use the findings when talking to the seller or agent. It’s your decision how to use it, whether that is asking for work or discussing the price.

Keep outlets and gutters clear so water drains off the roof quickly. The less water sits, the less can find its way beneath.

What a survey costs

A few things affect what a survey costs:

  • The roof’s overall size
  • How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
  • If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
  • The height of the building and how the roof can be seen safely

Prices quoted always include VAT, and the report isn’t charged as an extra. Our price is from £400, including VAT. Where your roof sits in the range depends on its size, height and access.

Booking your survey

The more you let us know, the easier it is to price the survey. When you get in touch, it helps to mention:

  • How the loft is reached, if there is one
  • The reason for the survey, such as buying, a leak or storm damage
  • Any photos you have, taken from ground level or a window
  • Any marks or damp showing indoors

Every survey is priced before it’s booked, so you know where you stand. Our price is from £400, including VAT. To book, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

Thermal roof surveys in Weyhill: local notes

Thatch survives on some older buildings in Hampshire’s villages. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. Steep or complicated roofs are often hard to see from ground level, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help. Where the drone is part of the survey, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying.

For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St Michael and All Angels, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that’s where a view from above or with a thermal imager helps.

Your questions about thermal roof surveys in Weyhill

How do I find out if my home in Weyhill is listed?

Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.

Do you cover Weyhill?

Yes, Weyhill is within the area we cover. Our area covers London and South East England. You can call 07833 053749 or email us with the address and a few details, and we will talk through which survey suits.

Do you survey on Saturdays and Sundays?

We survey seven days a week: Monday to Friday, Saturdays and Sundays. Just let us know the days that suit you.

Can a thermal camera see water?

Thermal imaging shows temperature rather than water. Wet insulation holds heat longer than dry, so it can stand out, and moisture readings are used to check it.

Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?

Yes, once access has been agreed. The roof of a block or converted house is often shared, so the freeholder or managing agent needs to agree access. We inspect only the parts we are allowed to reach.

Can you inspect my roof with a drone?

Where it helps and the rules allow, yes. Our sub-250g drone is flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID, and every flight depends on the airspace and the weather.

Does this replace a RICS home survey?

No. This is a survey of the roof only, and it is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. Many buyers have both.
