Thermal roof surveys in East Cholderton

Thermal roof surveys for homes and businesses in East Cholderton

Our Premium Survey, from £400, brings together a full roof inspection and thermal imaging. It also includes a drone inspection where applicable, a structural analysis and a same-day report. There is an in-person consultation as well, plus a follow-up 12 months later. To book, just call 07833 053749 or email us with the address and what you’ve noticed. For big commercial roofs, we quote on size and access. Typical surveys look at water that travels before it shows and damp that repairs haven’t cured, on commercial roofs, insulated roof spaces and loft conversions.

In a small place like East Cholderton, open ground can mean strong wind. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.

The report works through the roof section by section, from the coverings down to the gutters. It records what’s sound as well as what isn’t.

The survey, step by step

We do not take risks to get a closer look. Everything that can safely be seen is inspected, and if part of the roof can’t be seen, the report says so. The survey usually takes between one and two hours at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. Rural addresses near East Cholderton can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.

  1. We go through the roof, the problem and the weather expected on the day.
  2. We look over the roof from wherever it’s safe.
  3. Thermal images are taken across the roof and, where there’s safe access, in the loft.
  4. We take moisture readings where the images suggest a problem.
  5. The report pairs each thermal image with a photo and explains what it suggests.

Before we arrive

  • For flats, check roof access has been agreed
  • Show us where any leaks or stains appear
  • Keep pets inside or away from the areas we’re looking at

Different roofs, different checks

GRP fibreglass roofs

Cracks in GRP can let water into the boards beneath. We look at cracks by eye and use the images to see whether there’s a pattern around them.

Loft insulation

Loft insulation is easily disturbed when people store things or run cables. The camera can show where it no longer covers the ceiling.

Your questions about thermal roof surveys in East Cholderton

Is East Cholderton within the area you cover?

We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house.

Is East Cholderton in the area you cover?

Yes, East Cholderton is one of the places we work. Every survey there gets the same written report with photos, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.

How does a thermal imaging roof survey work?

A thermal camera shows differences in surface temperature. The patterns can suggest wet insulation, gaps in insulation or heat escaping. Findings are checked with moisture readings.

Does the report include photos?

Yes, every report has them. Each finding is shown in a picture where possible, which makes the report easy to follow.

How long does the survey take?

It normally takes between one and two hours at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. The written report follows by email, on the timescale of your package.

Can you check my loft insulation with a thermal camera?

The camera can point to heat loss and gaps in insulation. The survey isn’t an energy rating or a heat loss calculation, but the report shows where to look more closely.

What’s the best way to book?

To arrange a survey, call 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address, the type of property and what’s prompted the survey. We will confirm the price and agree a day with you.

Signs you need a thermal roof survey in East Cholderton

Cold rooms under a roof, or high heating bills, lead some people to ask about heat loss. Missing or slipped insulation can stand out as temperature differences, particularly when it is warm inside and cold outside.

Signs worth acting on include:

  • Patches of heat loss across the roof
  • Possible trapped moisture under a flat roof covering
  • Damp where roofs meet walls and chimneys
  • Missing or slipped insulation

Take a building like Amport Church of England Primary School: a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

Before you book anyone

  • What follow-up you get after the report
  • Whether the loft is part of the inspection
  • What exactly goes into their report
  • Their track record with similar roofs

What to expect from a roof survey

Checking the roof from ground level

Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. You won’t see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground.

After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Photograph them and note the date, as it helps a surveyor trace the cause.

Rented homes, blocks and businesses

Roof problems in a rented home affect tenants as well as the building. A survey shows what needs attention, so you can plan the work with less disruption.

We also survey roofs for businesses and commercial landlords. Larger roofs take longer.

What affects the cost of thermal roof surveys

What a survey costs depends on the time and equipment it needs. The main factors are:

  • Roof area
  • Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
  • Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
  • Whether it is a home or a commercial building

Prices start from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on the size and height of the roof, access and which survey you book.

What we need to know

Some details help us recommend the right survey and price. When you contact us, tell us:

  • What kind of property and roof it is
  • Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
  • Your timetable, such as an exchange date
  • What made you get in touch

When you are ready to go ahead, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email. From there it is a case of choosing a package, agreeing the price and fixing a day.

Thermal roof surveys around East Cholderton

If your survey includes the drone, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. Thatch survives on some older buildings in Hampshire’s villages. Older houses in the South East frequently have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up photos from the air and thermal images help.

For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St Peter and St Paul, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help.
