Drone roof surveys near Ashton

Why act early in Ashton

Leaving a high roof unchecked means relying on what you can see from below. Close-up photos show what’s really there, slope by slope. It is far easier to plan work when you can see the problem. In a place like Ashton, a barn or garage roof left to fail puts whatever is inside at risk. It is worth including them in a survey before a winter does the damage.

Our price is from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on how big and how high the roof is, access and which survey you book.

Why book with us

  • Drones and thermal imaging where it applies
  • Covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance

Drone roof survey in Ashton: what you get

Every flight starts with an airspace check. Flight restriction zones around airports such as Heathrow, Gatwick and London City need permission from the airport or air traffic control. Parts of central London have restricted areas too, where NATS permission is needed. If we cannot fly, we use other safe vantage points instead and tell you. Prison sites also have drone restriction zones. We survey fragile roofs, flat roofs on upper floors and tall and steep roofs, and people most frequently book us about eroded pointing on a chimney stack and cracked mortar along the ridge.

Villages like Ashton frequently stand in open country, where wind can be strong. High wind or heavy rain stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.

You can share the report with anyone who needs it: your solicitor, the seller, your insurer, a roofer or the building’s managing agent, whichever applies.

Questions from Ashton

Is Ashton within the area you cover?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We cover the whole of London and South East England. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Ashton?

You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it’s in a conservation area. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.

Are you registered with the CAA?

Yes. We’re a CAA-registered drone operator, with a Flyer ID and an Operator ID. Our drone weighs under 250g and follow the drone code.

Are you insured?

Our surveys are covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance. Ask if you need details for a managing agent or building owner.

How long will you be at the property?

The visit normally takes roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. We’ll confirm what to expect when we arrange the visit.

What about my neighbours’ privacy?

The camera stays on your roof. We only survey what the owner has asked us to. If your roof is shared, it helps to tell your neighbours about the visit.

Can you survey a roof inside a flight restriction zone?

Only with the right permission. Confirmed flight restriction zones include Heathrow, Gatwick, London City, Stansted, Luton and Southampton, among others, where the airport or air traffic control must give permission first. Without it, we inspect from other safe viewpoints.

What affects the cost of drone roof surveys

Our packages start from £150, with VAT included. What you pay for your roof depends on:

  • Whether it is a home or a commercial building
  • If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
  • The shape of the roof and its details
  • Height and safe access

We offer three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, with VAT included. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.

Helping us price your survey

We will normally ask about:

  • Any photos you have, taken from ground level or a window
  • Any marks or damp showing indoors
  • Dates you are working to, like exchange
  • The property’s address and postcode

To book a survey, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and tell us the address and what’s prompted the survey. You’ll know the price before anything is booked.

When you need someone else

It’s useful to know what a survey will not do before you book:

  • Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
  • Flights in strong wind or heavy rain
  • Close-up photos of next door’s property

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll tell you before booking. What a survey covers and doesn’t.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Chimney stacks
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Fragile roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors

How the survey works

It’s useful to start with what’s prompted the survey: buying, a leak, storm damage, new work or just wanting to know where things stand. It helps us focus on what matters most to you. The visit typically takes about one to two hours on an ordinary house, and more on a big or complicated roof. Older rural homes like those around Ashton can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. Each part is looked at from wherever it can be seen safely, and anything we cannot see is noted.

  1. You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
  2. We arrange any permission that is needed before we fly.
  3. We assess the wind, the weather and the surroundings before take-off.
  4. We fly the drone close to the roof to photograph it in detail, always in sight.
  5. You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.

Before the survey

  • Leave a clear route to the loft
  • Jot down any questions you want answered
  • If you’re buying, check with the agent that we can get in

Drone roof surveys in Ashton: local notes

An older home may be listed, or stand in a conservation area. To find out, check Historic England’s list and ask the council about conservation areas. In either case, a change of roofing material may need consent. Some Hampshire villages still have thatched roofs. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. Many roofs like these cannot be judged properly from the pavement, and that’s where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place.

The streets around a church like Church of St Peter are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if your house is among the older ones nearby, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.

Checking the roof from ground level

After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Do not go up yourself.

You can learn a lot from ground level. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.

Common roof problems in Ashton

Strong winds can lift slates, tiles and ridge pieces. It’s hard to tell from below what has shifted. A drone shows what has slipped, lifted or gone.

Here are some of the things we see often:

  • Lead work pulling away at abutments
  • Cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots
  • Slates or tiles shifted by high winds
  • Outlets choked with leaves and silt

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Bishops Waltham Infant School, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.

Choosing a roof surveyor

  • Which limits apply to the survey
  • Which parts of the roof they’ll actually see
  • Their track record with similar roofs
  • What exactly goes into their report
