Drone roof survey in Aston
From the air, the outer surfaces are clear, but it can’t see inside. Where there’s safe access, we look in the loft space too, because the underside tells its own story. Together, the two give a fuller picture. Your report shows the drone photos alongside what we saw in the loft. If there is no safe loft access, the report says so. We survey fragile roofs, flat roofs on upper floors and tall and steep roofs, and people most frequently book us about blistered or cracked flat roof coverings and storm damage on steep or tall roofs.
Villages like Aston often stand in open country, where wind can be strong. Strong wind or heavy rain stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.
Most points in the report come with a picture, so you can see each defect rather than just read about it. If something couldn’t be seen safely, the report is clear about it.

FAQs for Aston
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Aston?
The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. It is worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.
Do you cover smaller places like Aston?
We do. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one.
Can you give me structural calculations?
No. Visible signs such as deflection or sagging are recorded, but calculations and an engineer’s opinion are outside what we do. If one is needed, the report says so.
Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?
No. We can flag materials that might contain asbestos, but confirming it is a job for a specialist asbestos surveyor. Buildings built or refurbished before 2000 may contain it.
Do drone rules differ in central London?
Parts of central London are restricted, including areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs, and flights there need NATS permission. We check before every flight and seek permission where needed.
Do you hold CAA registration for the drone?
Yes, we are. The CAA has issued us a Flyer ID and an Operator ID, and the drone itself is under 250g, kept within sight on every flight.
Can you survey at the weekend?
We survey on any day from Monday to Sunday, during the day. Just say which days work for you.
Checking the roof from ground level
What you can’t do safely is get up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and falls from height are serious. That is where a survey comes in, using safe viewpoints and a drone where applicable.
It helps to keep a record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Send it with your enquiry, as it helps us focus the survey.
Practical tips
Here are a few things we’d tell any owner:
- Keep pets indoors during the flight
- Move stored items away from the hatch
- Let us know what you want to see
- Keep a clear space in the garden or drive for take-off
The Premium Survey includes an in-person consultation to go through what the drone showed. You can ask about anything that is not clear.
Keep the loft space ventilated. Poor airflow lets condensation build up, and it is something only an inside check will show. Keep insulation clear of the eaves.
When you need someone else
Our survey is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:
- Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
- What’s under the slates, tiles or felt
- Structural calculations (that is a structural engineer’s job)
If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will recommend the right survey. What our survey covers.
What this survey covers
- Fragile roofs
- Large and complex roofs
- Tall and steep roofs
- Flat roofs on upper floors
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Chimney stacks
Different roofs, different checks
Large commercial roofs
Cement sheet roofs on buildings from before 2000 may contain asbestos. We flag it in the report and recommend a specialist asbestos surveyor.
Flat roofs on tall buildings
Leaks often start at outlets, edges and around plant. We photograph them closely.

What affects the price in Aston
All our prices include VAT. The things that change the price are:
- How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
- The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium
- How many separate roofs there are, like extensions, dormers and garages
- The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
Thermal imaging and drone inspection (where applicable) come with the Premium Survey, which starts from £400, including VAT. We will tell you which package suits the questions you have.
What to tell us when you get in touch
A few details help us recommend the right survey and price. When you contact us, it’s useful to mention:
- The style of property, from a terrace to a block
- Any photos you have, taken from ground level or a window
- What made you get in touch
- Whether there is a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access
Our price is from £400, including VAT. The exact figure depends on the roof and the package, and you can ring 07833 053749 or email us to find out.
What a drone roof survey looks like in Aston
Older buildings in west Oxfordshire frequently have Cotswold stone slate roofs, and some Oxfordshire villages still have thatch. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. Many roofs like these cannot be judged properly from the pavement, and that’s where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place. We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight.
Historic houses such as Greenlands, about 1 mile north-west, show how far back building around Aston goes. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from ground level, and a survey from above or with a thermal imager doesn’t touch the roof itself. If you live in an older home near Church of St Nicholas, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.
Aston is about 2 miles north-east of Henley-on-Thames, in Oxfordshire. We carry out drone roof surveys in Aston for houses, flats, blocks and commercial buildings, with a written report and photographs every time. Aston is one of the towns and villages in Oxfordshire where we work. We also survey roofs in Reading.

For rail, the closest station is Henley-On-Thames station, roughly 1.7 miles south-west of the centre. What we do, step by step
We work from the outside in: outside views come first, then the roof space if there’s safe access. All told, expect between one and two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Older roofs in small places like Aston can have low, tight loft spaces, so it’s useful to know whether there’s a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.
- First, we check the address for flight restrictions.
- If permission is needed, we ask for it ahead of the visit.
- Before the flight, we check the conditions and the take-off spot.
- We fly the drone close to the roof to photograph it in detail, always in sight.
- Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos and recommendations.
Before the survey
- Keep pets in another room
- Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller
- Show us where any leaks or stains appear
