Your questions about drone roof surveys in Bankside

Will parking be an issue for a roof survey in Bankside?

Sometimes, yes. If Bankside has controlled parking where you are, a visitor permit is the easiest answer.

How do I find out if my home in Bankside is listed?

Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.

Can a drone see inside my loft?

No. It shows what’s on the outside. Leaks, damp timbers and condensation frequently show first from inside, so we check the loft too where we can.

Are you insured?

Professional indemnity and public liability insurance cover our surveys. Ask if you need details for a managing agent or building owner.

Are you registered with the CAA?

We are. The CAA has issued us a Flyer ID and an Operator ID, and we fly a drone that weighs under 250g, kept within sight on every flight.

Does the report include photos?

Yes, plenty. Pictures sit next to the findings they show, which makes the report easy to follow.

What does a roof survey cost?

Prices start from £400, including VAT. Our Basic Survey starts from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all including VAT.

About our drone roof survey in Bankside

From the air, the outer surfaces are clear, but it cannot see under the coverings or into the loft. We check the loft from inside where it’s safe, because the underside tells its own story. Inside and out together tell you far more. The report sets out what the drone showed and what we found inside. Where the loft cannot be reached safely, we note it. We survey valleys and parapet gutters, flat roofs on upper floors and large and complex roofs, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are coverings that have slipped high up on the roof and flat roofs on upper floors that hold water.

London’s roofs are frequently hard to see from the street: valley gutters behind parapets, dormers and flat-roofed rear additions. That’s where a view from the air or a thermal camera helps, by showing what cannot be reached safely. The weather decides the day: both drones and thermal cameras need the right conditions. Thermal images show surface temperature, not water itself, so findings are checked with moisture readings.

We keep jargon out of it: where something needs attention, it says so plainly.

What a drone roof survey looks like in Bankside

Bankside is about 1 mile from the restricted area over the City of London, where drone flights need permission from NATS. We check whether the address falls inside it, and if it does we apply for permission, which is not always given. Many homes in inner London are Victorian and Edwardian terraces, often with Welsh slate roofs. From the street you may see only a parapet, with a butterfly roof and a valley gutter behind it draining to the back. Lead flashings, party-wall upstands and shared chimney stacks are typical of these houses, if yours is one of them. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from ground level, drone photos and thermal images add detail.

Mansion House lies about 0.6 miles north-east, so building around Bankside goes back a long way. A drone or thermal survey doesn’t involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings. For a London address like Bankside, it helps to know about controlled parking before the day, along with any off-street space. The streets around a church such as St Mary Mounthaw are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if your home is one of the older ones nearby, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that is where a view by drone or thermal camera helps.

Bankside is about 1 mile north of London, in Greater London. We visit Bankside as part of our work across Greater London, for houses, flats and commercial buildings. Bankside is one of the places in Greater London we cover.

Postcode districts we cover here for drone roof surveys: SE1, EC4Y and EC4V. Streets in the area include Bear Lane, Bush Lane and Swan Lane, all of which we cover. You will find Bankside on the A201 and A300, so it is easy for us to get to. We also cover Blackfriars (1 mile north-west), Temple (1 mile north-west), Temple Bar (1 mile north-west), Waterloo (1 mile south-west) and Smithfield (1 mile north). Larger places within reach include Kensington (4 miles west), Walthamstow (6 miles north-east), Hampstead (5 miles north-west), Ruislip (14 miles west), Brompton (3 miles west) and Stockwell (3 miles south).

Near you in Bankside

Bankside has its own railway station: London Blackfriars station. A little further out are Royal Waterloo Hospital for Children and Women (0.6 miles west) and Gabriel's Wharf (within half a mile west). Green spaces nearby include Ludgate Hill and Barnsbury Wood.

What this survey cannot tell you

Without opening up the roof, some things stay hidden, and that sets some limits:

  • Flights in strong wind or a downpour
  • Flights in a restricted zone without permission
  • Whether the roof structure meets design loads

If you’re not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer. The full list of what we check.

What this survey covers

  • Chimney stacks
  • Fragile roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Tall and steep roofs

Should I look at the roof myself first?

It is useful to keep a record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Share it with us when you book.

During heavy rain, look at the gutters from ground level or a window. Water spilling over the edge can point to a blockage or a sagging run.

The survey, step by step

Photos are taken throughout the visit, so the report shows exactly what we saw. We take close-ups from wherever is safe, including by drone where it’s applicable and the weather allows. Most surveys take an hour or two for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. In a London area like Bankside, the main things to sort out are parking and access: let us know about parking, the floor the property is on, any shared entrance and loft access. We then look at everything that’s safely in view from the ground, windows, the loft and, where it’s safe, the roof itself.

  1. We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
  2. A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
  3. The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
  4. Where there’s safe access, we check the loft as well.
  5. The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.

Advice

Tips from our surveys

Most of what helps is simple and safe from ground level. A few suggestions:

  • Tell next door if the drone will be near their property
  • Make sure there’s room outside for the drone to take off
  • Shut pets inside while we fly
  • Give us the full address so we can check the airspace

Keep the photos with your property records. They’re a useful baseline for future surveys.

Every so frequently, look in the roof space with a torch, keeping to boarded areas. The underside frequently shows problems before the outside does. Take photos of any changes.

Landlords, agents and block managers in Bankside

Landlords, agents and building managers in Bankside and across Greater London can book any of our surveys. To discuss a property or a block, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

Letting agents can arrange access with tenants, at a time agreed ahead of time. We survey seven days a week, which can make access easier.

What a survey costs

Several things affect the price of a survey:

  • How many separate roofs there are, like extensions, dormers and garages
  • The height of the building and how the roof can safely be seen
  • Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
  • The shape of the roof and its details

Prices start from £400, including VAT. The final price depends on the size and height of the roof, access and which survey you book.

Helping us price your survey

Getting the details right at the start saves time. Please include:

  • Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
  • The reason for the survey, such as buying, a leak or storm damage
  • Where the property is, with the postcode
  • Dates you’re working to, such as exchange

Buyers should book once an offer has been accepted, so you have the findings in time to act on them before you exchange. Otherwise, simply phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email whenever suits you.
