Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Becontree Heath

Drone surveys suit tall houses, blocks of flats, steep roofs and large commercial roofs. They’re useful where walking on the roof could damage it or is not safe, such as old slate, clay tiles or cement sheets. You get close-up views without anyone setting foot on the roof. Ahead of the visit, we check the address for any airspace restrictions that apply. We’ll tell you if another approach would work better. We survey valleys and parapet gutters, tall and steep roofs and chimney stacks, and common reasons people get in touch are gaps where slates or tiles have gone and blocked valleys and parapet gutters.

Many London roofs are hidden from the pavement: butterfly roofs behind parapets, dormer tops and flat roofs over back additions. That’s where a view from the air or a thermal camera helps, by showing what cannot be reached safely. The weather decides the day: both drones and thermal cameras need the right conditions. Thermal images show surface temperature, not water itself, so findings are checked with moisture readings.

Findings are set out part by part, from the main slopes down to the gutters and outlets, each with a short note and a photograph. You will see the good as well as the bad.

Drone roof surveys in Becontree Heath: local notes

Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight.

Take a building like All Saints Catholic School and Technology College: big roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images show the most at once. Take an older house close to Hartley Brook Church: older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help. If you look after a shop, office or commercial unit, for example near The Brewery, big, flat commercial roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help most.

When you need someone else

This isn’t a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. Other limits to bear in mind:

  • Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
  • Photos in conditions too poor to fly
  • Close-up photos of next door’s property

If you are not sure which survey you need, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will give you a straight answer. The full list of what we check.

What we check

  • Chimney stacks
  • Fragile roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters

What happens on the day

The visit usually starts outside and finishes in the loft: outside views come first, then the roof space if there is safe access. In total, it takes about one to two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. London terraces rarely offer a view of the whole roof from one spot, so a visit in Becontree Heath moves between viewpoints: the pavement, upstairs windows, the loft and any safe spot at the back. If other people live in the building, let us know who can let us into the shared parts.

  1. First, we check the address for flight restrictions.
  2. Where a flight restriction zone or restricted area applies, we seek permission first.
  3. Before the flight, we check the conditions and the take-off spot.
  4. The sub-250g drone takes close-up photos of the roof, kept in sight throughout.
  5. You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.

Before we arrive

  • Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand
  • Jot down any questions you want answered
  • Unlock side gates and any roof access doors

Why it is worth a survey now in Becontree Heath

Leaving a slipped slate or a blocked valley can turn a small fault into a leak. Finding them now means less to put right, whatever height the roof is. Any roof job in Becontree Heath means planning around parking, neighbours and access. Knowing what’s needed early gives you time to plan it calmly.

Bigger, taller and commercial roofs take more time to survey, so they’re priced to match. The price is confirmed before booking.

What we look for on each type of roof

Valleys and parapet gutters

Some older terraces have a butterfly roof with a valley in the middle. You cannot see it from the street at all, but it is plain to see from the air.

Steep slate and tile slopes

Steep slopes are hard to inspect safely on foot. A drone photographs them closely from a safe position, showing slipped, cracked and missing pieces.

Common questions in Becontree Heath

Is parking a problem for a survey in Becontree Heath?

Usually it is manageable with a little notice. Let us know the parking rules on your street and we will work around them.

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Becontree Heath?

Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.

Do I have to be there for the survey?

It depends on what we need to see. For inside areas and the loft space, someone has to give us access, while outside access can be discussed when you book.

Will you walk on the roof?

Not unless it’s safe. Most of what we need can be seen from safe viewpoints, the loft and, where it applies, a drone, and anything out of sight is recorded in the report.

How do I arrange a drone roof survey in Becontree Heath?

To arrange a survey, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address, the type of property and what’s prompted the survey. We will confirm the price and agree a day with you.

Do you hold CAA registration for the drone?

We are. Our Flyer ID and Operator ID come from the CAA, and the drone itself is under 250g.

Is a drone roof survey a thermal survey?

Our drone takes close-up photos of the roof. Thermal imaging is carried out separately, and it’s part of the Premium Survey.

Checking the roof from ground level

A DIY look is useful, but it isn’t a survey. From ground level, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are frequently out of sight.

After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Take a photo and write down when you saw it, as it helps a surveyor trace the cause.
