Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Chadwell Heath

A drone can see more than your roof, so we take care. The camera stays on your roof, not on gardens or windows next door. If your roof is joined to a neighbour’s, it is worth letting them know about the visit. We survey the roof you’ve asked us to look at. Flights are kept as short as the job allows and focused on the roof in question. If you’re worried about ridge and hip pieces working loose and chimney tops in poor condition, we can find out what’s behind it.

Many London roofs are hidden from the pavement: valley gutters behind parapets, dormers and flat-roofed rear additions. That is where a view from the air or a thermal camera helps, by showing what cannot be reached safely. Weather on the day decides whether it goes ahead, in Chadwell Heath as anywhere. What a thermal image shows is temperature, so anything that looks like moisture is checked with a meter.

The report works through the roof section by section, from the main slopes down to the gutters and outlets. You will see the good as well as the bad.

When to book a survey in Chadwell Heath

From the pavement, most of a tall roof is out of sight. You can’t see the back slope, the valleys or the chimney tops. Faults there can go unnoticed for years.

Signs worth acting on include:

  • Slipped or missing slates on a high roof
  • Blocked valleys and parapet gutters
  • Plant growth and moss on the roof
  • Cracked mortar along the ridge

For an older house near a landmark such as St Chad's Church, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.

Before booking any roof surveyor

  • Which viewpoints they use to see the roof
  • Their report turnaround times
  • Their drone registration, if they fly one
  • Whether the roof space is looked at, where there is one

What’s in a roof survey

Why get it checked now?

It’s hard to plan maintenance for a roof nobody has looked at. You get photographs of every part we can see, with recommendations prioritised by urgency where relevant. You can tackle the urgent items first. London’s older roofs frequently have bitumen felt underlay or none at all, so once the slates or flashings let water past, little stops it reaching ceilings. Left alone, that means wet timbers and plaster, which is a far bigger job than the roof fault itself.

Prices start from £400, including VAT. Basic starts from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, VAT included.

What you get with us

  • Thermal imaging and drone inspection where they help
  • More than 5,000 surveys completed
  • An independent look at the roof

The survey, step by step

Photographs are taken throughout the visit, so you can see in the report what we found and where. We take close-ups from wherever is safe. Most surveys take roughly 1–2 hours at a typical home, and longer for a large or complex roof. In a London conversion, the way into the loft space is often from a communal landing or the top flat. If that applies to your building, it’s useful to agree access with the neighbours or the managing agent first. Otherwise, the visit in Chadwell Heath runs like any other.

  1. We start by checking the airspace and any restrictions at your address.
  2. Where a flight restriction zone or restricted area applies, we seek permission first.
  3. We assess the wind, the weather and the surroundings before take-off.
  4. The drone captures close-up photos of the coverings, chimneys, valleys and gutters.
  5. You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.

Before the survey

  • Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
  • If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
  • Unlock side gates and any roof access doors

Book a survey

A quick phone call is typically the easiest start: phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form, and we’ll ask about the building and what you need. You’ll have a price before anything is arranged.

Questions from Chadwell Heath

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Chadwell Heath?

Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.

Is drone flying allowed in Chadwell Heath?

The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Across London there are restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, plus restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Every London address is checked against them before a flight. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

We survey seven days a week: Monday to Friday, Saturdays and Sundays. Let us know which days suit you as you book.

How long does the survey take?

That depends on the size and shape of the roof, but most surveys take between one and two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. The written report follows by email.

Are you structural engineers?

No. Our survey isn’t a structural engineer’s report, and it doesn’t include calculations. We will recommend an engineer if we see signs that call for one.

What insurance do you have?

We are covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance, for every survey we carry out.

Do you cover Chadwell Heath?

Yes. Our area covers London and South East England, Chadwell Heath included.

Different roofs, different checks

Chimney stacks

From the air, a lean or a loose pot is easy to see. Each defect is photographed for the report.

Steep slate and tile slopes

On slate roofs, slipped slates often point to corroded nails. We can see the extent of it from above.

Drone roof surveys in Chadwell Heath: local notes

Historic houses like Hare Hall, about 2.9 miles east, show how far back building in the area around Chadwell Heath goes. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area. The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times.

Take a building like Warren Junior School: thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof. As a London address, Chadwell Heath can be tricky for parking: let us know about permits, visitor bays or off-street space as you book, as a space near the door can’t be promised.

DIY checks: what’s safe

What you cannot do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way. That is where a survey comes in.

It is useful to keep a record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Share it with us when booking, as it helps us focus the survey.
