About our drone roof survey in Byfleet
Drone surveys suit tall houses, blocks of flats, steep roofs and large commercial roofs. They also suit fragile roofs that nobody should walk on, such as old slate, clay tiles or cement sheets. The roof is photographed without being disturbed. Ahead of the visit, we check the address for any airspace restrictions that apply. If a drone isn’t the right tool, we’ll say so. We are often asked to look into blocked valleys and parapet gutters and flat roofs on upper floors that hold water, on tall and steep roofs, large and complex roofs and fragile roofs.
Places like Byfleet can be near small airfields or other airspace restrictions, so the Drone Safety Map is checked before any flight. Exposed sites can be windy, and a small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind. Neighbours’ privacy is part of planning each flight, along with the airspace and the weather.
With the Standard Survey, you also get moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

What a drone roof survey looks like in Byfleet
Older houses across Surrey often have handmade clay tiles, and many have tile-hanging. Horsham stone slab roofs survive on some old buildings in Surrey. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these. The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight.
Shop and office owners around The Peacocks may find that large commercial roofs are frequently easiest to see by drone or thermal camera. The streets around a church like Church of St Mary the Virgin are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if your home is one of the older ones nearby, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as St Mary's CofE Controlled Primary School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

Why it’s worth a survey now in Byfleet
With drone photos, everyone can see the same thing. You can show exactly where the problem is. Around Byfleet, leaves and moss in gutters lead to overflowing water and damp walls, particularly where trees overhang. Dealing with the cause is simple; drying out a wall is not.
A small, low roof with good viewpoints takes less time than a tall, complicated one, and the package matters as well. We’ll give you the figure before anything is booked.

What we cannot see
It is a careful look at the roof, not the whole story. The main limits are:
- Whether the roof structure meets design loads
- Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
- A flight where airspace permission is refused
If you’re not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or email us and we will give you a straight answer. The full list of what we check.
What we look at

Common questions in Byfleet
Is my home in Byfleet listed or in a conservation area?
Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. It’s worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.
Can you fly a drone over a roof in Byfleet?
That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.
How long have you been surveying roofs?
Over 5,000 surveys so far, over more than 20 years, with 98% customer satisfaction.
Do you work in Byfleet?
Yes. We survey roofs across London and South East England, Byfleet included.
Does the weather affect the survey?
A survey can typically go ahead in light rain. Heavy rain or strong wind can ground a drone and make the roof unsafe, so if conditions are not right we’ll arrange another day with you.
What does the report include?
A written report with photos, covering the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend, in order of urgency where relevant. The Standard Survey adds moisture detection and a structural check, and the Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable and structural analysis.
What’s the best way to book?
Just ring 07833 053749 or email us with the address. After a few questions, we confirm the price and fix a day.
Roof by roof
Large commercial roofs
Big roofs on offices, warehouses and units take time to inspect. The drone covers the roof area by area, so nothing is skipped.
Flat roofs on tall buildings
Flat roof coverings wear out at different rates. Photos show how the covering is wearing.

Where a roof is shared: access has to be agreed with whoever owns or manages the building. Let us know about it when booking and we’ll plan the visit with that in mind.
Tips from our surveys
These tips come from what we see on roofs every week:
- Expect a little longer if permission is needed
- Tell us the exact address when booking
- Make sure there is room outside for the drone to take off
- Let us know about any leaks or concerns
If you need work done, roofers can work from the photos. They’ll see exactly where each defect is.
Keep gutters, valleys and outlets clear, ideally once the leaves have fallen. On high roofs, leave clearing to a professional. Many leaks start with a blocked outlet.
How the survey works
There isn’t much for you to do on the day. Point out anything you’ve noticed, such as stains, drips or loose pieces, and we’ll get on with the inspection. A typical survey takes about 1–2 hours at most homes, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. With a bit of garden around a house, as there frequently is around Byfleet, the roof can be viewed from several angles. Let us know if any side is fenced off or hard to reach. Inside, the loft is looked at where it can be reached safely.
- First, we check whether a drone is the right tool.
- We agree a date, including weekends, subject to the weather.
- We fly over the roof, keeping the camera on the property we’re surveying.
- If the loft can be reached safely, it is checked too.
- Everything is written up, with the aerial photos and our advice.
Before the survey
- Agree roof access with the managing agent if it’s shared
- Jot down any questions you want answered
- Check we can get to the back of the property
