Drone roof survey in Brooklands
Some roofs are hard or unsafe to reach. Our drone roof survey gets a camera close to them without anyone climbing. It shows coverings, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters clearly. Everything we find goes into a photo-illustrated written report. It’s also a good option where walking on the roof could break slates or tiles. If we cannot fly, we tell you why. If you’ve noticed plant growth and moss on the roof and tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack, we can find out what’s behind it, on tall and steep roofs, fragile roofs and large and complex roofs alike.
Around Brooklands, a good many roofs are low enough to see partly from the garden or the street. Chimney tops, valleys and rear slopes are where close-up or thermal images help most. Both depend on the weather on the day. Even so, a close-up image frequently shows wear on ridges and flashings that a view from ground level misses.
Every survey ends with a written report, with photos, sent by email. It sets out the condition of the roof, any defects and our written recommendations.

Leave it or get it looked at?
With drone photos, everyone can see the same thing. They show the location and extent of each defect. With lower homes, common in places like Brooklands, there’s little between a roof defect and the ceiling, so a small leak can mark a ceiling within a few storms. Catching the cause first saves redecorating as well.
A Basic Survey starts from £150, with VAT included. The Standard Survey starts from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, both with VAT included. You will know the price for your roof before booking.

What we look for on each type of roof
Large commercial roofs
Older cement sheet roofs may contain asbestos. We do not test for it, but we flag it so a specialist asbestos surveyor can check.
Valleys and parapet gutters
A butterfly roof drains to a central valley gutter. You cannot see it from the street at all, but it is plain to see from the air.

DIY checks: what’s safe
If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.
Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Water spilling over the edge can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
What a drone roof survey looks like in Brooklands
Handmade clay tiles and tile-hung walls are typical of Surrey’s older houses. Some old buildings in Surrey and Sussex have Horsham stone slab roofs. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up photos from the air and thermal images help. With Byfleet Manor about 1.7 miles south, Brooklands sits in an area with a long building history. Older homes in the wider area often have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.
Take a building like Heathside School: thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof. A roof leak in a hotel or guest house around Brooklands means lost rooms as well as repairs, so it’s worth knowing the roof’s condition. If your house is among the older ones in the streets near Church of St Charles Borromeo, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.

Brooklands: your questions answered
Are there drone restrictions around Brooklands?
That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. Strong wind or a downpour also stops a small drone flying.
Is Brooklands within the area you cover?
Yes. Brooklands is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We survey roofs across London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.
How many surveys have you done?
Over 5,000 surveys so far, across 20+ years of surveying roofs, and 98% of clients are satisfied.
What does the report include?
A written report with photos, explaining the condition of the roof, any defects and our recommendations. The Standard Survey adds moisture detection and a structural check, and the Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable and structural analysis.
Will you go up on the roof?
Not unless it is safe. Safe viewpoints, the roof space and a drone where it applies cover most of what’s needed, and anything out of sight is recorded in the report.
Will you photograph what you find?
Yes. Photographs are part of every report, so you can see exactly what each finding refers to.
What happens next?
We email you the written report with photographs and recommendations. It’s yours to share with a seller, insurer, roofer or managing agent, whichever applies.
The survey, step by step
Before we start, let us know why you’ve booked: buying, a leak, storm damage, new work or just wanting to know where things stand. It helps us focus on what matters most to you. Most visits take about one to two hours for most houses, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. A visit to a smaller place like Brooklands is no different on the day: outside, inside and from any safe vantage point, in that order. It is useful to show us anything you’ve already noticed.
- First, we check the address for flight restrictions.
- We arrange any permission that’s needed before we fly.
- Before the flight, we check the conditions and the take-off spot.
- We fly the drone close to the roof to photograph it in detail, always in sight.
- You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.
Before we arrive
- If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
- Move anything stored under the loft hatch
- Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
Arrange a survey
Most bookings start with a short call: phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll ask a few questions about the roof. You’ll have a price before anything is arranged.

Practical tips
Most of what helps is simple and safe from ground level. A few suggestions:
- Book early if you are near an airport
- Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too
- Be ready to move the date if the weather turns
- Keep dogs indoors during the visit
You get an in-person consultation with the Premium Survey to go through what the drone showed. It is a chance to ask about anything in the report.
Don’t block the vents at the eaves. Poor airflow lets condensation build up, and it’s something only an inside check will show. Check insulation doesn’t block the airflow.
