About our drone roof survey in Whiteley Village

A drone can see more than your roof, so we take care. The camera stays on your roof, not on gardens or windows next door. If your roof is joined to a neighbour’s, it is worth letting them know about the visit. We survey the roof you’ve asked us to look at. Each flight is kept short and stays focused on the roof we’re there to survey. If you’ve noticed cracked mortar along the ridge and flashings that have come away, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on large and complex roofs, chimney stacks and fragile roofs alike.

Some older homes in villages like Whiteley Village are listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.

The Standard Survey adds moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

What a survey costs

The price reflects the time and kit the roof needs. That comes down to:

  • If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
  • The height of the building and how the roof can safely be seen
  • The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium
  • The number of roofs, including extensions and garages

Bigger, taller and commercial roofs take more time to survey, so the price reflects that. The price is confirmed before booking.

What we need to know

What helps most when you contact us:

  • When you need the report by
  • Photos of the roof, taken safely from ground level or a window
  • The kind of building and roof involved
  • The address and postcode of the property

Getting a price is simple: just call 07833 053749 or send us an email and give us some details about the property and we’ll suggest the right survey. We confirm the price before anything is booked.

What we look for on each type of roof

Chimney stacks

Leaning stacks and loose pots are easier to judge from above. Each defect is photographed for the report.

Large commercial roofs

Cement sheet roofs on buildings from before 2000 may contain asbestos. We do not test for it, but we flag it and recommend a specialist asbestos surveyor.

The survey, step by step

We photograph the roof as we go, so the report shows exactly what we saw. We take close-ups from wherever is safe, including by drone where it’s applicable and the weather allows. Most surveys take an hour or two at most homes; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. Cottages and farmhouses around Whiteley Village often have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints, and anything we can’t see is noted.

  1. First comes the address, plus a note of what worries you about the roof.
  2. Any flight restriction at the address is looked at, with permission requested if required.
  3. We assess the conditions and the take-off spot first.
  4. The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
  5. The findings, photos and recommendations reach you by email.

Before the survey

  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street
  • Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller
  • Show us where any leaks or stains appear

Getting a price

A quick phone call is normally the easiest start: ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email, and we will ask about the building and what you need. The price is agreed before a date is set.

Advice

What we cannot see

Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:

  • Flights in a restricted zone without permission
  • Anything inside the loft or under the coverings
  • Flights in strong wind or heavy rain

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will tell you. What our survey covers.

What this survey covers

  • Chimney stacks
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Fragile roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Large and complex roofs

Useful tips for Whiteley Village property owners

A few practical points come up again and again on our surveys. They’re worth knowing whatever the roof:

  • Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too
  • Tell next door if the drone will be near their property
  • Expect us to rearrange if it’s too windy or wet
  • Mention anything you’ve noticed on the roof

Premium also includes a 12-month follow-up. It shows whether anything has moved or worn since the first visit.

Keep the roof space ventilated. Condensation in the loft can damage timbers and insulation. Keep insulation clear of the eaves.

Flying and imaging in Whiteley Village

Many older homes in Surrey have handmade clay tiles and tile-hung upper walls. Horsham stone slab roofs survive on some old buildings in Surrey. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up close-up aerial shots and thermal images help. The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight.

Anyone responsible for a site like Notre Dame Senior School will know that a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit. Historic houses like The Homewood, about 1.8 miles east, show how far back building around Whiteley Village goes. A drone or thermal survey does not involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings. For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St Mark, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.

FAQs for Whiteley Village

Is Whiteley Village within the area you cover?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We cover the whole of London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route as you book.

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Whiteley Village?

Typically it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. Strong wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.

How experienced are you?

We have been surveying roofs for over 20 years and have carried out more than 5,000 surveys.

Will I get photos?

Yes, plenty. Pictures sit next to the findings they show, so you can see what we mean.

How long will you be at the property?

Expect it to take about 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. You’ll then get the report by email, on the timescale of your package.

Do you test for asbestos?

No. We can flag materials that might contain asbestos, but only a specialist asbestos surveyor can confirm it. Buildings built or refurbished before 2000 may contain it.

Does this replace a RICS home survey?

No. We check the roof, not the whole building, so it is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. Many buyers have both.

Landlord and commercial surveys in Whiteley Village

Letting agents often book on a landlord’s behalf, and the report can go to both. Access is agreed with the tenant in advance.

We also survey roofs for businesses and commercial landlords. Bigger roofs take more time, and they’re priced for the size.
