About our drone roof survey in Enfield Island Village

Drone roof surveys are available in Enfield Island Village and throughout London and South East England, subject to airspace checks and the weather. Flights take place on weekdays and at weekends. Every address is checked for airspace restrictions first. The report includes the drone photos and our recommendations. To check whether your roof suits a drone survey, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address. If you are worried about ridge and hip pieces working loose and moss and weeds taking hold up top, we can find out what’s behind it.

Many London roofs are hidden from the pavement: butterfly roofs behind parapets, dormer tops and flat roofs over back additions. Drone photos and thermal images can show parts of a roof that are hard to reach safely. Weather on the day decides whether it goes ahead, in Enfield Island Village as anywhere. What a thermal image shows is temperature, so anything that looks like moisture is checked with a meter.

You receive the findings by email, ready to forward to whoever needs them. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and same day for Premium.

Flying and imaging in Enfield Island Village

Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. The wider area around Enfield Island Village has a long history of building, with Forty Hall about 2.3 miles west. On older houses around here, roofs often carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.

For a London address like Enfield Island Village, it is useful to know about controlled parking before the day. If you live in an older home near Ss Peter and Paul Church, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.

Checking the roof from ground level

Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.

Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. From the ground, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are frequently out of sight.

What this survey cannot tell you

A survey is a proper look at the roof, but it cannot do everything. The main limits are:

  • Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
  • The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
  • Whether the roof structure meets design loads

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll tell you before you book. What a survey covers and does not.

What we look at

  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Chimney stacks
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Fragile roofs

When to book a survey in Enfield Island Village

Big commercial and industrial roofs cover a lot of ground. The drone covers the surface area by area. That gives a clearer picture of the roof as a whole.

Look out for signs like these:

  • Lead work pulling away at abutments
  • Coverings that have slipped high up on the roof
  • Vegetation in valleys and gutters
  • Slates or tiles shifted by high winds

For site and facilities teams at buildings like Prince of Wales Primary School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

Questions from Enfield Island Village

Is my home in Enfield Island Village listed or in a conservation area?

Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Enfield Island Village?

It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. London’s airspace includes flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Each address is checked against all of them before the drone goes up. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

Does someone need to be in?

Not necessarily. If we only need the outside, we can agree that ahead of time, but anything inside needs someone there to give access.

Does the weather affect the survey?

Some surveys depend on the weather more than others. Drone flights need calm, dry weather, and thermal imaging works best after a sunny day, with a dry roof and little wind. We’ll rearrange with you if the weather isn’t right.

Is this a RICS survey?

No. We look at the roof, not the whole building, so it is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. Many buyers have both.

Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?

No. We do not carry out asbestos surveys or testing. If we see materials that could contain asbestos, like cement roof sheets or soffits on buildings from before 2000, we flag them, and recommend a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before they’re disturbed.

How long will you be at the property?

That depends on the size and shape of the roof; most visits take an hour or two for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. The report is sent afterwards by email.

How it works

It is useful to start with what’s prompted the survey: a purchase, a leak, a storm, new work or simply peace of mind. That way we can focus on what matters to you. Most visits take roughly 1–2 hours for most houses, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. Many London properties are flats or terraces with no side access, so the back of the roof is frequently seen from upstairs windows, from inside or, where a flight is allowed, from the air. Mention any building rules, key holders or managing agents when booking.

  1. First, we check the address for flight restrictions.
  2. If permission is needed, we ask for it ahead of the visit.
  3. On the day, we check the weather and the site before flying.
  4. The sub-250g drone takes close-up photos of the roof, kept in sight throughout.
  5. We email a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

Before the survey

  • For a flat or shared roof, check access with whoever owns or manages the building
  • Clear the way to the loft hatch
  • Keep pets in another room

What happens if roof problems are left?

With drone photos, everyone can see the same thing. They show the location and extent of each defect. A hidden valley or parapet gutter on a London house can hold water for weeks before anyone notices. By the time a ceiling stains, the timbers underneath may have been wet for a while.

A small, low roof with good viewpoints takes less time than a tall, complicated one, and the package you pick makes a difference too. We will give you the figure before anything is booked.

Practical tips

There’s plenty you can do without going near the roof. What helps most:

  • Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
  • Mention anything you’ve noticed on the roof
  • Clear a spot on the drive or lawn
  • Keep dogs indoors during the visit

The report gives any roofer you ask to quote a clear brief. They’ll see exactly where each defect is, so their quotes cover the same ground.

Do not block the vents at the eaves. Poor airflow lets condensation build up. Keep insulation clear of the eaves.
