About our drone roof survey in Freezywater

Drones need reasonable weather. Strong wind or heavy rain rules out a flight, because the drone has to stay safely under control. If the day turns out unsuitable, we’ll talk about another date. The forecast is checked ahead of the visit and again on the day. Light wind and dry weather give the clearest close-up photos. A short delay is better than a rushed flight. If you are worried about plant growth and moss on the roof and flat roofs on upper floors that hold water, we can find out what’s behind it, on valleys and parapet gutters, large and complex roofs and tall and steep roofs alike.

Around Freezywater, plenty of roofs are low enough to see partly from the garden or the street. Chimney tops, valleys and rear slopes are where close-up or thermal images help most. The forecast decides the day. Close-up images often show wear on ridges, verges and flashings that cannot be judged properly from the ground.

The report doesn’t just list problems. It explains what we found, why it matters and what we recommend, so you can decide what to do next.

What happens on the day

Every roof is different, but as a rough guide the survey takes an hour or two for a house, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. If you have questions on the day, just ask. Parking around Freezywater is typically easier than in a town centre, but mention lanes, gates or long drives. Low roofs on bungalows can often be seen well from the ground, and the loft shows the rest.

  1. We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
  2. A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
  3. The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
  4. Where there is safe access, we check the loft as well.
  5. You get photos, findings and clear recommendations.

Before we arrive

  • Leave a clear route to the loft
  • Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
  • If you are buying, check with the agent that we can get in

What a drone roof survey looks like in Freezywater

Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these. The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight.

Take a building like Keys Meadow Primary School: big roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images show the most at once. For businesses in and around places such as Edmonton Green Shopping Centre, large commercial roofs are frequently easiest to see from above or with a thermal imager.

Freezywater is about 2 miles west of Waltham Abbey, in Hertfordshire. We survey roofs in Freezywater and the rest of Hertfordshire, as part of our work across London and South East England. We cover towns and villages across Hertfordshire, from the larger towns to small villages. London is in our area too.

Surveys in EN3, EN8 and EN1 are booked the same way as anywhere else. You will find streets such as Park Road, Unity Road and Holly Road. Signs you need a drone roof survey in Freezywater

Big commercial and industrial roofs cover a lot of ground. A drone can photograph a large roof methodically, showing patterns of wear that are hard to spot up close. You see the whole roof, not just the parts near an access point.

Look out for signs like these:

  • Gaps where slates or tiles have gone
  • Chimney tops in poor condition
  • Loose ridge and hip tiles
  • Lead work pulling away at abutments

Forty Hall lies about 1.7 miles west, so building around Freezywater goes back a long way. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from the ground, and a survey by drone or thermal camera doesn’t touch the roof itself.

Choosing a roof surveyor

  • How much experience they have with roofs like yours
  • Whether the loft is part of the inspection
  • What insurance they carry
  • Their drone registration, if they fly one

Freezywater questions

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Freezywater?

The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain.

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Freezywater?

Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. It matters most if you are planning to re-roof in a different material.

What insurance do you have?

Professional indemnity and public liability insurance cover our surveys. If you need details for a managing agent or a building owner, just ask.

How long does the survey take?

It typically takes about 1–2 hours for a house, and longer for a large or complex roof. You will then get the report by email, on the timescale of your package.

Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?

No. Asbestos surveys and sampling aren’t something we do. The report may flag materials that could contain asbestos on buildings built or refurbished before 2000.

How long have you been surveying roofs?

We have completed more than 5,000 surveys, over more than 20 years, and 98% of clients are satisfied.

What if it rains on the day?

Light rain is usually fine; heavy rain and wind are different. High wind or heavy rain can make access unsafe and ground a drone, and we’d agree another day.

Prices for drone roof surveys in Freezywater

Not every roof costs the same to survey, for these reasons:

  • The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
  • Height and safe access
  • Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
  • The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium

What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: its size, its height, how many sections it has and how safely it can be seen. Our price is from £400, including VAT.

What we need to know

What helps most when you contact us:

  • Anything about access we should know
  • Dates you are working to, such as exchange
  • The property’s address and postcode
  • What made you get in touch

Getting a price is simple: just phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and give us some details about the property and we will recommend the right survey. The price is agreed up front.

What we look for on each type of roof

Steep slate and tile slopes

Walking on fragile coverings can break them. The drone sees them without touching them.

Valleys and parapet gutters

Some older terraces have a butterfly roof with a valley in the middle. It is almost impossible to see from the ground, but it’s plain to see from the air.

What we cannot see

Before booking, it’s worth knowing what a survey will not do:

  • A flight on a day when the weather is not safe
  • The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
  • A flight where airspace permission is refused

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll tell you. What a survey covers and does not.
