Drone roof survey in Finsbury, Greater London
Drone roof surveys across Finsbury, with over 20 years’ experience behind it. You get a clear report with photos.
- Slates or tiles shifted by high winds
- Coverings that have slipped high up on the roof
- Lead work pulling away at abutments
What happens on the day
Time on site depends on the size and shape of the roof; as a rough guide, the survey takes between one and two hours for most houses, and more on a big or complicated roof. If you have questions on the day, just ask. In converted houses and mansion blocks, the loft hatch is often on a shared landing. Where that is the case, access needs agreeing with whoever controls that landing. Everything else is planned around the building, not the postcode.
- We confirm whether a drone suits your roof.
- A date is fixed, with a fallback in case the weather turns.
- The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
- Where there’s safe access, we check the loft as well.
- You get photos, findings and clear recommendations.

How a drone roof survey works in Finsbury
They suit tall buildings, steep or large roofs and roofs that are hard to see from the ground. They’re useful where walking on the roof could damage it or is not safe. You get close-up views without anyone setting foot on the roof. We check the airspace for your address before the visit. We’ll tell you if another approach would work better. We survey valleys and parapet gutters, tall and steep roofs and flat roofs on upper floors, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are moss and weeds taking hold up top and hidden gutters full of leaves.
Many London roofs are hidden from the pavement: butterfly roofs behind parapets, dormer tops and flat roofs over back additions. Drone photos and thermal images can show parts of a roof that are hard to reach safely. Weather on the day decides whether it goes ahead, in Finsbury as anywhere. Thermal images show surface temperature, not water itself, so findings are checked with moisture readings.
Every survey ends with a written report, with photographs, emailed to you. It explains the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend.

Should I look at the roof myself first?
You can learn a lot from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Never climb onto the roof to look.
A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. From ground level, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
Tips from our surveys
Getting the most from a drone roof survey starts before we arrive and carries on afterwards. Some tips:
- Clear a spot on the drive or lawn
- Give us the full address so we can check the airspace
- Allow for a change of day in poor weather
- Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too
With the Premium Survey, the report arrives the same day. Drone photographs are included where we could fly, alongside the other checks in the package.
Have leaves and moss cleared from gutters, valleys and outlets, particularly in autumn. On high roofs, leave clearing to a professional. Many leaks start with a blocked outlet.

What this survey cannot tell you
We only report what can be seen safely on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:
- A flight on a day when the weather isn’t safe
- What’s under the slates, tiles or felt
- Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will tell you. What a survey covers and does not.

FAQs for Finsbury
How do I find out if my home in Finsbury is listed?
The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it’s worth checking before planning any.
Is drone flying allowed in Finsbury?
That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Finsbury is about 1 mile from the restricted area over the City of London, where drone flights need permission from NATS. If a roof falls inside it, we apply for permission before flying, and the flight only goes ahead if it’s granted. Across London there are restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, plus restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Every London address is checked against them before a flight. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain.
How experienced are you?
Over 20 years and more than 5,000 surveys.
Is Finsbury in your area?
Yes. Finsbury is part of the area we cover.
Does the weather affect the survey?
It can, depending on the survey. Drones cannot fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, and thermal imaging works best after a sunny day, with a dry roof and little wind. We’ll rearrange with you if the weather is not right.
How much is a survey?
Prices start from £400, including VAT. You will know the price for your survey before booking, based on the roof’s size, access and package. For a price, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Only where it is safe to do so. We inspect what can safely be seen: from ground level, from windows and vantage points, from the loft space, from the roof itself where safe and by drone where applicable. The report says if anything couldn’t be seen.
Drone roof surveys in Finsbury: local notes
The restricted area over the City of London, where drone flights need permission from NATS, is about 1 mile from Finsbury. If a roof falls inside it, we apply for permission before flying, and the flight only goes ahead if it’s granted. London’s airspace includes flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Each address is checked against all of them before the drone goes up.
For hotels and guest houses around Finsbury, a roof problem found early is far less disruptive than one found by a guest, so it’s worth knowing the roof’s condition. With Mansion House about 0.6 miles south, the area around Finsbury has a long history. Aerial photos and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it. The streets around a church such as Jewin Welsh Presbyterian Chapel are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if you own one of the older houses nearby, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof frequently shows up clearly on a thermal image.

What happens if roof problems are left?
Leaving a slipped slate or a blocked valley can turn a small fault into a leak. Spotting them early keeps the work smaller. Any roof job in Finsbury means planning around parking, neighbours and access. That’s a good reason to find problems early, while there is time to plan, rather than in a rush after a leak.
We offer three survey packages: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, all including VAT. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you need to know.
