Drone roof survey in Hinton Ampner

Neighbours’ privacy matters on every flight. We keep the camera on the roof we’re surveying, not on gardens or windows next door. If your roof is shared, a word with next door beforehand helps. We inspect only what the owner has asked us to. Flights are kept as short as the job allows and focused on the roof in question. We survey large and complex roofs, flat roofs on upper floors and chimney stacks, and people most often book us about wind damage high on the roof and worn lead at chimneys and walls.

In a village or hamlet like Hinton Ampner, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you can’t get from the ground. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first, and the journey is planned beforehand. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.

Every survey ends with a written report, with photos, emailed to you. It explains the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend.

How the survey changes by roof type

Valleys and parapet gutters

Hidden gutters and valleys sit out of sight. A drone shows linings, joints and build-ups of debris.

Ridges and hips

The ridge takes wind from both sides. From above, we can see loose ridges and missing mortar.

What a drone roof survey looks like in Hinton Ampner

Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight. With Hinton Ampner House about 0.3 miles south, Hinton Ampner sits in an area with a long building history. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.

For an older house near a landmark such as Church of All Saints, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help. If you look after a building such as Cheriton Primary School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

Hinton Ampner is about 7 miles east of Winchester, in Hampshire. From houses to flats and shops in Hinton Ampner, we can survey the roof on a weekday or at the weekend. Our area takes in places right across Hampshire. Our Southampton page covers surveys nearby.

We survey roofs across SO24 for drone roof surveys and the streets around it. Whether your property is on Petersfield Road and Hinton Hill or anywhere close by, we can survey it. Nearby, we also carry out drone roof surveys in Cheriton (1 mile west), Bramdean (1 mile east), Beauworth (2 miles south-west), Bishop's Sutton (3 miles north) and New Alresford (3 miles north). We also work in nearby towns such as Basingstoke (15 miles north), Winchester (7 miles west), Havant (15 miles south-east), Eastleigh (10 miles south-west), Fareham (14 miles south) and Horndean (11 miles south-east).

Questions from Hinton Ampner

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Hinton Ampner?

We cannot confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.

Is Hinton Ampner within the area you cover?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our area covers London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there as you book.

I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?

Yes, if the freeholder or managing agent agrees access. We look at the parts we are given access to.

Does the drone show the underside of the roof?

No. The drone sees the roof from outside only. For the underside, we check the loft where it can be reached safely, as damp and daylight frequently show there first.

How experienced are you?

We have been surveying roofs for over 20 years and have completed over 5,000 surveys.

Is this an asbestos survey?

No. Asbestos surveys and sampling aren’t something we do. Where a material might contain it, such as old cement sheets on a building from before 2000, the report flags it.

Can you fly a drone in central London?

Parts of central London are restricted, including areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs, where flights need permission from NATS. We check before every flight and seek permission where needed.

What affects the price in Hinton Ampner

We confirm the price for your roof before booking. This is what makes a difference:

  • Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
  • Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details
  • Which survey package you book
  • The height of the building and how the roof can safely be seen

Price depends partly on the package: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 or Premium from £400, all inc. VAT. The roof’s size, height and access matter as well.

Booking your survey

What helps most when you contact us:

  • Photos of the roof, taken safely from ground level or a window
  • Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
  • How the loft is reached, if there is one
  • The reason for the survey, such as buying, a leak or storm damage

To book a survey, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and what you’d like to know about the roof. You will know the price before anything is booked.

What happens if roof problems are left?

On a tall building, problems are often found only when water comes in. By that stage the damage has spread inside. Looking from above picks up the early signs. For older village homes like those around Hinton Ampner, the right replacement materials are not always easy to find quickly. Spotting a problem early leaves room to find them.

Prices start from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on how big and how high the roof is, how it can safely be seen and which survey you book.

Tips that help

There is plenty you can do without going near the roof. Here’s what helps most:

  • Allow for a change of day in poor weather
  • Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too
  • Let us know what you want to see
  • Clear a spot on the drive or lawn

Your report arrives by email, including the close-up photos taken by the drone. Each finding is explained in plain words, and recommendations are ranked by urgency where that helps.

Look at the roof from the ground after strong winds. Debris in the garden is a sign to act on. A drone survey can show what has shifted.

What a drone roof survey doesn’t cover

In fairness, there are limits to any roof survey:

  • Anything inside the loft or under the coverings
  • Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey
  • Photos in conditions too poor to fly

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or email us and we will tell you. The full list of what we check.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Fragile roofs
  • Chimney stacks
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Tall and steep roofs

How the survey works

The visit usually starts outside and finishes in the loft: first the slopes, edges and gutters from every safe viewpoint, then the roof space where it can be reached. In total, it takes roughly 1–2 hours on an ordinary house, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. Rural addresses near Hinton Ampner can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.

  1. First, we check whether a drone is the right tool.
  2. A date is fixed, with a fallback in case the weather turns.
  3. The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
  4. If the loft can be reached safely, it is checked too.
  5. Everything is written up, with the aerial photos and our advice.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Leave side gates unlocked
  • Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand
  • Tell us about parking before the day
