How a drone roof survey works in Bramdean
Drone roof surveys are available in Bramdean and throughout London and South East England, subject to airspace checks and the weather. We fly on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. We check the airspace for your address before booking a flight. You get a written report with close-up photos and recommendations. To check whether your roof suits a drone survey, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address. If you’ve noticed chimney tops in poor condition and worn lead at chimneys and walls, a survey will tell you what’s going on.
Villages like Bramdean frequently stand in open country, where wind can be strong. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.
You receive the findings by email, ready to forward to whoever needs them. Basic reports come within 48 hours, Standard within 24–48 hours and Premium on the day.

Drones, thermal imaging and Bramdean roofs
Some Hampshire villages still have thatched roofs. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up photos from the air and thermal images help. The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight.
Hinton Ampner House lies about 1.3 miles west, so building around Bramdean goes back a long way. For older roofs nearby, a look from the air or with a thermal camera is a hands-off way to check condition.
Bramdean is about 8 miles east of Winchester, in Hampshire. Bramdean gets the same service as everywhere else we work: a careful inspection, photos and a written report. Across Hampshire, we cover Bramdean. For surveys nearby, see our Southampton page.

Practical tips
Here are a few things we’d tell any owner, before and after a survey:
- Share the postcode so we can check for restrictions
- Expect us to rearrange if it is too windy or wet
- Allow time for permission if you’re in a flight restriction zone
- Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
The Premium Survey includes an in-person consultation to talk through the photos and findings. It’s a chance to ask about anything in the report.
Look at the roof from the ground after strong winds. Debris in the garden is a sign to act on. A drone can show exactly what has moved.
Do you need a drone roof survey in Bramdean?
Walking on some roofs does more harm than good. Older slates and tiles break easily, and some sheet roofs are fragile. A drone lets us see them closely without touching them.
Here are some of the things we see often:
- Outlets choked with leaves and silt
- Slipped or missing slates on a high roof
- Worn lead at chimneys and walls
- Cracked mortar along the ridge
The streets around a church such as Church of St Simon and St Jude are often among the oldest in a place, and if yours is one of the older homes nearby, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.
Before you book anyone
- Which limits apply to the survey
- Which viewpoints they use to see the roof
- Whether the price includes VAT
- How long they’ve been surveying roofs
When you need someone else
In fairness, there are limits to any roof survey:
- What’s under the slates, tiles or felt
- Structural calculations (that’s a structural engineer’s job)
- Flights in high wind or heavy rain
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will tell you before booking. The full list of what we check.
Roof types and parts we check
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Tall and steep roofs
- Fragile roofs
- Chimney stacks
- Large and complex roofs
- Flat roofs on upper floors
Should I look at the roof myself first?
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and falls from height are serious. That’s where a survey comes in, using safe viewpoints and a drone where applicable.
It helps to keep a record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Share it with us when you book.
How it works
Time on site depends on the size and shape of the roof, but as a rough guide the survey takes an hour or two for a house, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. If you have questions on the day, just ask. For a village or hamlet like Bramdean, the journey is planned in advance: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. The roof is looked at from the ground, from windows, from the loft where there’s safe access and from the roof where it is safe.
- First, we check the address for flight restrictions.
- If permission is needed, we ask for it ahead of the visit.
- We assess the wind, the weather and the surroundings before take-off.
- The sub-250g drone takes close-up photos of the roof, kept in sight throughout.
- You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.
Before the survey
- Check we can get to the back of the property
- Dig out any old roof reports or invoices
- For a flat or shared roof, check access with the building owner or managing agent
Booking a survey
Most bookings start with a short call: phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will ask a few questions about the roof. The price is agreed before a date is set.

Rented homes, blocks and businesses
For a freeholder or residents’ company, a roof report is a sound basis for a maintenance plan.
An agent can book and manage the survey for a landlord, and the report can go to both. Access is agreed with the tenant ahead of time.
Questions from Bramdean
Is drone flying allowed in Bramdean?
The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. Strong wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.
Is my home in Bramdean listed or in a conservation area?
The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. It is worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.
Do you work in Bramdean?
Yes. We cover Bramdean and the rest of Hampshire. For a price, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email.
How long have you been surveying roofs?
More than 5,000 surveys over 20+ years.
Are you insured?
Our surveys are covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance. Ask if you need details for a managing agent or building owner.
How long is the visit?
Time on site depends on the roof, but most surveys take about 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. The written report follows by email.
Can you give me structural calculations?
No. We’re experienced roof surveyors, and visible signs such as sagging are noted, but we do not provide calculations or an engineer’s opinion. The report will say if you need an engineer.
