- Ponding and splits on a high flat roof
Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Hornchurch
Drone surveys suit tall houses, blocks of flats, steep roofs and large commercial roofs. They’re useful where walking on the roof could damage it or is not safe. You get close-up views without anyone setting foot on the roof. We check the airspace for your address before the visit. We’ll tell you if another approach would work better. We survey tall and steep roofs, flat roofs on upper floors and fragile roofs, and people most often book us about debris building up in hidden gutters and coverings that have slipped high up on the roof.
Many London roofs are hidden from the pavement: butterfly roofs behind parapets, dormer tops and flat roofs over back additions. Drone photos and thermal images can show parts of a roof that are hard to reach safely. Weather on the day decides whether it goes ahead, in Hornchurch as anywhere. What a thermal image shows is temperature, so anything that looks like moisture is checked with a meter.
If any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely, we say so in the report. You will know exactly what was inspected and what wasn’t, and what we’d suggest next.

How we price drone roof surveys
Prices vary from roof to roof, and it comes down to:
- Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
- Height and safe access
- Commercial roofs and larger buildings
- The shape of the roof and its details
Prices quoted always include VAT, and the report is not charged as an extra. Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. Size, height and access decide where your roof falls.
Booking your survey
These details help when you get in touch:
- Anything about access we should know
- What made you get in touch
- The property’s address and postcode
- The kind of building and roof involved
A quick phone call is normally the easiest start: ring 07833 053749 or email us. The price is agreed before a date is set.
Should I look at the roof myself first?
A DIY look is useful, but it isn’t a survey. From ground level, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight.
During heavy rain, look at the gutters from the ground or a window. Water spilling over the edge can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
When you need someone else
Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:
- A flight on a day when the weather isn’t safe
- Roofs and gardens beyond the one we’re surveying
- What’s under the slates, tiles or felt
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll tell you before you book. What a survey covers and doesn’t.
What we look at
- Large and complex roofs
- Chimney stacks
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Tall and steep roofs
- Fragile roofs
- Flat roofs on upper floors

Questions from Hornchurch
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Hornchurch?
Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. It’s worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.
Can parking be tricky for a visit in Hornchurch?
Sometimes, yes. If Hornchurch has controlled parking where you are, a visitor permit is the easiest answer, and a driveway is even better.
What’s the best way to book?
To arrange a survey, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address, the type of property and what’s prompted the survey. We’ll confirm the price and agree a day with you.
How quickly is the report sent?
Basic reports arrive within 48 hours, Standard reports in 24–48 hours and Premium reports on the same day. Each one is emailed, ready to forward.
What insurance do you have?
Every survey is covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance, and details are available on request.
Can you fly a drone near an airport?
Sometimes, with permission. Confirmed flight restriction zones include Heathrow, Gatwick, London City, Stansted, Luton and Southampton, among others, and a flight inside one needs the airport’s or air traffic control’s say-so. If permission isn’t given, the roof is inspected from other safe viewpoints.
Will you walk on the roof?
Not always. Safety comes first, and fragile or steep roofs can’t always be walked on. We use safe viewpoints, the loft space and a drone where applicable, and the report records anything we couldn’t see.
What a drone roof survey looks like in Hornchurch
About 1.8 miles north lies Hare Hall, a reminder of how long the area around Hornchurch has been built on. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters. Across London there are restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, plus restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Every London address is checked against them before a flight.
The streets around a church such as Saint George's Church are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if your house is among the older ones nearby, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement. If you run a business near The Brewery, big, flat commercial roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images help most. Take a building like Langtons Infant School: thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.

What happens if roof problems are left?
Small defects on a high roof grow with each storm. Spotting them early keeps the work smaller. In Hornchurch, as across London, an overflowing gutter soaks the wall below. A small blockage left for a few winters becomes a damp problem.
One thing that affects the price is the package: from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, inc. VAT. Size, height and access can affect the price too.

How the survey works
We work from the outside in: outside views come first, then the loft space if there’s safe access. In total, it takes an hour or two on an ordinary house, and more on a big or complicated roof. In Hornchurch, as in much of London, plenty of properties are flats or terraces without side access, so the back of the roof is often seen from upstairs windows, from inside or, where a flight is allowed, from the air. Mention any building rules, key holders or managing agents as you book.
- You give us the address and let us know about the roof.
- We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
- Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are looked at.
- The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
- We email the report with close-up photos and recommendations.
Preparing for the visit
- Let us know about parking before the day
- If you’re buying, check with the agent that we can get in
- Leave side gates unlocked

Advice
Tips that help
From years of surveys, a few habits stand out:
- Let us know about any leaks or concerns
- A word with neighbours beforehand helps
- Tell us the exact address when you book
- Make sure the loft can be reached
Premium also includes a 12-month follow-up. It helps you see how the roof has changed over the year.
Look at the roof from ground level after strong winds. Debris in the garden is a sign to act on. A drone can show exactly what has moved.
