Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Istead Rise

Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. It stays within sight for the whole flight, and within the 120-metre limit that applies to all drones in the open category. Each flight is planned with the site and its surroundings in mind. Airspace and weather are checked before every flight. Safety comes first on every visit. We survey chimney stacks, valleys and parapet gutters and tall and steep roofs, and people most frequently book us about worn lead at chimneys and walls and blistered or cracked flat roof coverings.

In a village or hamlet like Istead Rise, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what cannot be reached safely. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first, and the journey is planned ahead of time. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.

With the Standard Survey, you also get moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

The survey, step by step

Once we have finished looking, we write up our findings as a report with photos, emailed to you. As for time on site, it usually takes about 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Rural addresses near Istead Rise can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.

  1. We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
  2. Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
  3. On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
  4. We fly the sub-250g drone close to the roof and photograph each area.
  5. You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

What you can safely check yourself

Look up at the roof after a storm, from the ground: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Do not go up yourself.

A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. From the ground, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight.

FAQs for Istead Rise

How do I find out if my home in Istead Rise is listed?

The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. It’s worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.

Is drone flying allowed in Istead Rise?

That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. Strong wind or a downpour also stops a small drone flying.

What’s the best way to book?

To book, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and let us know the address and what you want to find out. We will confirm the price and find a day that suits.

Is Istead Rise in your area?

Yes. We survey roofs across London and South East England, and that includes Istead Rise.

Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?

No. We can flag materials that might contain asbestos, but only a specialist asbestos surveyor can confirm it. Buildings built or refurbished before 2000 may contain it.

How experienced are you?

We’ve completed more than 5,000 surveys, over more than 20 years.

Do I have to be there for the survey?

That depends on the survey. For inside areas and the loft space, someone has to give us access; we will agree the details as you book.

Why act early in Istead Rise

Leaving a high roof unchecked means relying on what you can see from below. A drone replaces that guesswork with clear photos, slope by slope. It is far easier to plan work when you can see the problem. Older and listed buildings around Istead Rise may need consent and matching materials for repairs, so leaving a defect until it is urgent leaves less time to plan.

Larger roofs, taller buildings and commercial roofs take longer, so the price reflects that. You’ll know the figure before booking.

What you get with us

What we need to know

The more you let us know, the easier it is to price the survey. When you contact us, it is useful to mention:

  • Whether there’s a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access
  • What made you get in touch
  • Your timetable, like an exchange date
  • Any photos you have, taken from ground level or a window

If you have photos of the roof, send them over. Take them safely from ground level or a window. To get started, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

What we look for on each type of roof

Flat roofs on tall buildings

Outlets, edges and roof plant are common problem areas. They’re all captured in close-up.

Large commercial roofs

Many commercial roofs have fragile sheets or roof lights. With a drone, nobody has to go near them.

What a drone roof survey looks like in Istead Rise

Istead Rise is within about 4 miles of the coast, where wind off the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain. About 2.3 miles south-east lies Cobham College, a reminder of how long the area around Istead Rise has been built on. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.

If your home is one of the older ones in the streets near Saint Barnabus Church, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that’s where a view from the air or with a thermal camera helps. Take a building like Istead Rise Primary School: a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.
