Drone roof survey in Joyden's Wood, Greater London
Independent drone roof surveys in Joyden's Wood. We have completed more than 5,000 surveys across London and South East England.
- Tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack
- Worn lead at chimneys and walls
- Cracked mortar along the ridge
When to book a survey in Joyden's Wood
Steep and tall roofs are hard to inspect safely. Three-storey houses, blocks of flats and tall commercial buildings are common examples. A drone gets close-up views from a safe position on the ground.
Most people get in touch after spotting one of these:
- Blistered or cracked flat roof coverings
- Lifted or split lead flashings
- Coverings that have slipped high up on the roof
- Moss building up on slopes and in gutters
Hall Place and Gardens, about 1.5 miles north, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Joyden's Wood. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from ground level, and a survey from the air or with a thermal camera doesn’t touch the roof itself.

How a drone roof survey works in Joyden's Wood
Tall, steep, large or fragile roofs can’t always be inspected up close. Our drone roof survey gets a camera close to them without anyone climbing. It shows coverings, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters clearly. Everything we find goes into a written report with photos. It is also a good option where walking on the roof could break slates or tiles. If we can’t fly, we tell you why. If you’ve noticed chimney tops in poor condition and flat roofs on upper floors that hold water, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.
London’s roofs are often hard to see from the street: valley gutters behind parapets, dormers and flat-roofed rear additions. That is where a view from the air or a thermal camera helps, by showing what can’t be reached safely. The weather decides the day: both drones and thermal cameras need the right conditions. What a thermal image shows is temperature, so anything that looks like moisture is checked with a meter.
After the visit, you get a written report with photos, sent by email. It explains the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend.

What a survey costs
The price reflects the time and kit the roof needs. The main factors are:
- Building height and the viewpoints available
- Commercial roofs and larger buildings
- Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
- If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
A small, low roof with good viewpoints takes less time than a tall, complicated one, and the package matters as well. We’ll give you the figure before anything is booked.
What we need to know
To price your survey accurately, we will ask about:
- Any marks or damp showing indoors
- The type of building and roof, like pitched or flat
- The property’s address and postcode
- Dates you are working to, such as exchange
You can call us seven days a week. For a price or to book, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form.
Can I check my roof myself?
Your own check is a good start, but it isn’t a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from ground level, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
FAQs for Joyden's Wood
Is parking a problem for a survey in Joyden's Wood?
In much of London, parking needs planning: a visitor permit or a nearby bay makes the day run more smoothly, so mention what’s available when booking.
How do I find out if my home in Joyden's Wood is listed?
Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
Can a drone see inside my loft?
No. The drone sees the roof from outside only. The loft space is checked separately, where there is safe access.
How soon will I get the report?
That depends on the survey you book: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day. The report is emailed to you.
How long have you been surveying roofs?
Over 5,000 surveys so far, over more than 20 years.
What if it is windy or raining on the day?
High wind or heavy rain stops a flight. The weather on the day decides whether the drone goes up. If we cannot fly, we’ll arrange another day or inspect by other means.
Is your drone operator registered?
Yes. We’re a CAA-registered drone operator, with a Flyer ID and an Operator ID. We fly a sub-250g drone and follow the drone code.
What we look for on each type of roof
Steep slate and tile slopes
Steep slopes are hard to inspect safely on foot. A drone photographs them closely from a safe position.
Ridges and hips
Ridges and hips are the most exposed parts of a pitched roof. A drone shows cracked mortar and loose ridge tiles.
The survey, step by step
Time on site depends on the size and shape of the roof, but as a rough guide the survey takes about one to two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. If you have questions on the day, just ask. In converted houses and mansion blocks, the loft hatch is frequently on a shared landing. If that applies to your building, it is useful to agree access with the neighbours or the managing agent first. Otherwise, the visit in Joyden's Wood runs like any other.
- We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
- A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
- Aerial photos are taken of your roof only, not the neighbours’.
- Where there is safe access, we check the loft as well.
- You get photos, findings and clear recommendations.
Preparing for the visit
- If you are buying, check with the agent that we can get in
- Unlock side gates and any roof access doors
- Show us where any leaks or stains appear

Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. Across London there are restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, plus restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs.
