Common roof problems in Lisson Grove
Hidden gutters and valleys are easy to overlook. Debris collects where nobody looks, until it causes a leak inside. A drone shows them clearly from above.
Most people get in touch when they’ve noticed one of these:
- Blistered or cracked flat roof coverings
- Plant growth and moss on the roof
- Eroded pointing on a chimney stack
- Wind damage high on the roof
Parking in Lisson Grove, as in most of London, takes a little planning: a visitor permit or a nearby bay makes the day easier.

Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Lisson Grove
Our drone weighs under 250g, and we’re a CAA-registered drone operator, with a Flyer ID and an Operator ID. It stays within sight for the whole flight, and well below the 120-metre height limit. Each flight is planned with the site and its surroundings in mind. Before every flight, we check the airspace and the weather. We never fly where it isn’t safe. We’re often asked to look into blistered or cracked flat roof coverings and slipped or missing slates on a high roof, across valleys and parapet gutters, tall and steep roofs and large and complex roofs.
London airspace is busy and tightly controlled: restriction zones surround Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs have restricted areas of their own. Before a drone goes up in Lisson Grove, the address is checked against all of them, and permission is never taken for granted.
Where we cannot see part of the roof, the report says so. You’ll know exactly what was inspected and what wasn’t, and what we’d suggest next.

What happens on the day
We’ll ask a few questions first, about the roof’s history, any leaks and past repairs. Then the inspection itself takes between one and two hours on an ordinary house, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. In a London area like Lisson Grove, the main things to sort out are parking and access: let us know about parking, the floor the property is on, any shared entrance and loft access. We then look at whatever is safely visible from ground level, windows, the loft and, where it’s safe, the roof itself.
- First comes the address, plus a note of what worries you about the roof.
- We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
- Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are checked.
- Close-up photos are taken of each slope, chimney, valley and gutter, with the drone always in view.
- The findings, photos and recommendations reach you by email.
Getting ready for the survey
- Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
- If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
- Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors

Lisson Grove: your questions answered
Are there drone restrictions around Lisson Grove?
The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Lisson Grove is about 2 miles from the edge of the flight restriction zone around London Heliport in Battersea. We check the exact boundary for the address before flying, and if the roof falls inside it, we ask for permission first. The restricted area over Hyde Park, where drone flights need permission from NATS, is about 2 miles from Lisson Grove. If a roof falls inside it, we apply for permission before flying, and the flight only goes ahead if it is granted. London’s airspace includes flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Every London address is checked against them before a flight. High wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Lisson Grove?
For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. It matters most if you are planning to re-roof in a different material.
Do you work in Lisson Grove?
Yes, we do. We carry out drone roof surveys in Lisson Grove, and the service is the same as everywhere else we work.
How many surveys have you done?
We’ve completed more than 5,000 surveys, across 20+ years of surveying roofs, and 98% of clients are satisfied.
How long will you be at the property?
It typically takes about one to two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. The report follows by email.
What will the report tell me?
It sets out what we found, why it matters and what we recommend, backed by photographs. Anything we couldn’t see safely is noted too.
How soon will I get the report?
It depends on the package: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day. The report is emailed to you.
DIY checks: what’s safe
After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Take a photo and write down when you saw it.
Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. From the ground, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
For landlords and managing agents
An agent can book and manage the survey for a landlord, and the report can go to both. Access is agreed with the tenant in advance.
Surveys can also be booked by buyers’ agents acting for a client. Reports are emailed, so they’re easy to pass on.

Drone roof surveys around Lisson Grove
The restricted area over Hyde Park, where drone flights need permission from NATS, is about 2 miles from Lisson Grove. We check whether the address falls inside it, and if it does we apply for permission, which isn’t always given. Welsh slate on Victorian and Edwardian terraces is a familiar sight across inner London. Many have butterfly roofs draining to a central valley gutter, with parapet walls and gutters hidden behind them. If your home in Lisson Grove is one of them, lead flashings, party-wall upstands and shared chimney stacks are part of the picture too. Many roofs like these can’t be judged properly from the pavement, and that’s where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place.
Shop and office owners around Kingly Court may find that large commercial roofs are frequently easiest to see from the air or with a thermal camera. For an older house near a landmark such as St Paul's Community Church, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.

Different roofs, different checks
Ridges and hips
The ridge takes wind from both sides. From above, we can see loose ridges and missing mortar.
Flat roofs on tall buildings
Outlets, edges and roof plant are common problem areas. We photograph them closely.
What affects the cost of drone roof surveys
Our packages start from £150, with VAT included. The price for your roof depends on:
- How many separate roofs there are, like extensions, dormers and garages
- Building height and the viewpoints available
- Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details
- Which survey package you book
What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how safely it can be seen. Prices start from £400, including VAT.
Booking your survey
The more you tell us, the easier it is to price the survey. When you get in touch, it helps to mention:
- The style of property, from a terrace to a block
- Where water is showing inside, if it is
- Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
- Where the property is, with the postcode
Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. The exact figure depends on the roof and the package, so call 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the details.
