Drone roof survey in Paddington: what you get

Some roofs are hard or unsafe to reach. Our drone roof survey gets a camera close to them without anyone climbing. You see slates, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters in detail. Everything we find goes into a written report with photos. It is also a good option where walking on the roof could break slates or tiles. If we can’t fly, we tell you why. Common reasons to book are debris building up in hidden gutters and gaps where slates or tiles have gone, across large and complex roofs, valleys and parapet gutters and fragile roofs.

Many London roofs are hidden from the pavement: butterfly roofs behind parapets, dormer tops and flat roofs over back additions. Drone photos and thermal images can show parts of a roof that are hard to reach safely. The weather decides the day: both drones and thermal cameras need the right conditions. What a thermal image shows is temperature, so anything that looks like moisture is checked with a meter.

Report times depend on the survey you book: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day.

How we price drone roof surveys

Survey packages start from £150, including VAT. The price for your roof depends on:

  • If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
  • The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
  • Basic, Standard or Premium
  • The height of the building and how the roof can safely be seen

There are three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all inc. VAT. What your roof costs depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.

Helping us price your survey

To price your survey accurately, we will ask about:

  • The address and postcode of the property
  • What kind of property and roof it is
  • Dates you are working to, such as exchange
  • Anything about access we should know

You can call us seven days a week, including Saturdays and Sundays. To book or ask a question, phone 07833 053749 or email us.

Why it is worth a survey now in Paddington

Small defects on a high roof grow with each storm. Spotting them early keeps the work smaller. Behind a London parapet, a blocked gutter can sit full of water without anyone seeing it. When the stain finally shows, the damage underneath is frequently older than it looks.

What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how safely it can be seen. Our price is from £400, including VAT.

Why us?

  • Satisfaction rate of 98%
  • More than 5,000 surveys completed
  • Surveys seven days a week
  • Every finding written up with photos

Flying and imaging in Paddington

Paddington is about 1 mile from the edge of the flight restriction zone around London Heliport in Battersea. The exact boundary is checked for each address before any flight, and a roof inside it needs permission before we fly. Across London there are restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, plus restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Each address is checked against all of them before the drone goes up.

Historic houses such as Winfield House, about 1 mile north, show how far back building around Paddington goes. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from the ground, and a survey from above or with a thermal imager does not touch the roof itself. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as International Community School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

Paddington is about 1 mile west of City of Westminster, in Greater London. We carry out drone roof surveys in Paddington for houses, flats, blocks and commercial buildings, with a written report and photographs every time. We cover towns and villages across Greater London, from the larger towns to small villages.

We cover every part of the W2, W1H and W1U postcode area for drone roof surveys. We cover properties on Harrow Road, Craven Road and Harbet Road. With the A5 and A40 close by, Paddington is simple for us to get to. We also cover Paddington Green (1 mile north-west), Hyde Park Estate (1 mile south-east), Connaught Village (1 mile south-east), Tyburn (1 mile south-east) and Little Venice (1 mile north-west). We also work in nearby towns like London (4 miles east), Shoreditch (4 miles east), Walthamstow (8 miles north-east), Hoxton (4 miles east), Whitechapel (4 miles east) and Ruislip (11 miles west).

Locally, jobs take us to homes and businesses close to Royal Society of Medicine Library, Fountains Abbey pub and Royal Parks of London. Nearby too are North Westminster Community School (less than half a mile north-east) and Hampden Gurney CofE Primary School (less than half a mile east). There is a railway station in Paddington itself: London Paddington station. A little further out are Harrods (1.3 miles south) and London Toy & Model Museum (0.5 miles south-west). The countryside around Paddington includes Greville Place nature reserve and The Long Water.

Paddington: your questions answered

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Paddington?

The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. The flight restriction zone around London Heliport in Battersea comes within about 1 mile of Paddington. We check the exact boundary for the address before flying, and if the roof falls inside it, we ask for permission first. Paddington is about 1 mile from the restricted area over Hyde Park, where drone flights need permission from NATS. We check whether the address falls inside it, and if it does we apply for permission, which isn’t always given. London’s airspace includes flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Every London address is checked against them before a flight. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain.

How do I find out if my home in Paddington is listed?

We cannot confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.

Do you cover Paddington for drone roof surveys?

Yes. Our area covers London and South East England, and that includes Paddington.

Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?

No. Our report may flag materials that could contain asbestos, but confirming it is a job for a specialist asbestos surveyor. It may be present in buildings built or refurbished before 2000.

Do I need to be at home?

That depends on the survey. Inside the building and in the loft, we need someone to let us in.

Will you go up on the roof?

Only when it’s safe. Some roofs are too steep or fragile to walk on safely. Safe viewpoints, the loft and a drone where applicable let us see the rest.

I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?

Yes, once access has been agreed. The roof of a block or converted house is often shared, so we need permission from whoever owns or manages the building. We inspect only the parts we are allowed to reach.

The survey, step by step

When we arrive, we begin with a quick chat about the roof and anything that is worrying you. After that, we check everything we can see safely, from ground level, from windows, in the roof space and by drone where it applies. Most surveys take roughly 1–2 hours for most houses, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. In converted houses and mansion blocks, the loft hatch is often on a shared landing. Where that’s the case, access needs agreeing with whoever controls that landing. Everything else is planned around the building, not the postcode.

  1. We start by checking the airspace and any restrictions at your address.
  2. Where a flight restriction zone or restricted area applies, we seek permission first.
  3. We assess the wind, the weather and the surroundings before take-off.
  4. We fly the drone close to the roof to photograph it in detail, always in sight.
  5. You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.

Before we arrive

  • Unlock side gates and any roof access doors
  • Agree roof access with the managing agent if it’s shared
  • Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed

Signs you need a drone roof survey in Paddington

Hidden gutters and valleys are easy to overlook. Debris collects where nobody looks, until water overflows inside. From above, they’re easy to see.

Here are some of the things we see often:

  • Slates or tiles shifted by high winds
  • Cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots
  • Lead work pulling away at abutments
  • Slipped or missing slates on a high roof

Parking in Paddington, as in most of London, takes a little planning: a visitor permit or a nearby bay makes the day easier.

What to check before booking

  • Which parts of the roof they’ll actually see
  • Is VAT included in the price?
  • Are they insured for the work?
  • What the report includes, and whether it has photographs

What to expect from a roof survey

Landlords, agents and block managers in Paddington

Where a roof is shared: we need access agreed with the building owner or managing agent. Mention it when you contact us and we’ll plan the survey around it.

Roof problems in a rented home affect tenants as well as the building. A survey helps you spot issues early and plan the work.

When you need someone else

It helps to know what a survey will not do before booking:

  • A structural engineer’s report
  • Flights in a restricted zone without permission
  • Photos in conditions too poor to fly
