Tyburn Drone Roof Survey
An experienced roof surveyor for drone roof surveys in Tyburn. Over 5,000 surveys and 20+ years behind us across London and South East England.
- Moss and weeds taking hold up top
- Damage after a storm that can’t be seen from below
- Loose ridge and hip tiles
How a drone roof survey works in Tyburn
Drones need reasonable weather. High wind or heavy rain rules out a flight, because the drone has to stay safely under control. If the day turns out unsuitable, we’ll talk about another date or inspect what we can by other means. The forecast is checked ahead of the visit and again on the day. Light wind and dry weather give the clearest close-up photos. Waiting for a better day is better than a rushed flight. If you’ve noticed damage after a storm that can’t be seen from below and cracked mortar along the ridge, we can find out what’s behind it, whatever the roof.
London airspace is busy and tightly controlled: restriction zones surround Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs have restricted areas of their own. Before a drone goes up in Tyburn, the address is checked against all of them, and permission is never taken for granted.
Pictures do a lot of the work in our reports, because a photo of a cracked flashing says more than a paragraph. Anything out of sight on the day is listed as such.

When to book a survey in Tyburn
Steep and tall roofs are hard to inspect safely. Three-storey houses, blocks of flats and tall commercial buildings are common examples. A drone gets close-up views from a safe position on the ground.
Most people get in touch after spotting something like this:
- Cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below
- Worn lead at chimneys and walls
- Eroded pointing on a chimney stack
- Slates or tiles shifted by high winds
If you run a hotel or guest house in or near Tyburn, a roof problem can mean rooms out of use.
What to check before booking
- Their track record with similar roofs
- Are they insured for the work?
- Whether you can ask questions once you have the report
- Will the report include photos?
Why act early in Tyburn
Faults on high roofs tend to be found late. By that stage the damage has spread inside. A drone survey finds them sooner. Many older London roofs have only old felt under the slates, or no underlay at all, so a slipped slate can soon mean water inside. Left alone, that means wet timbers and plaster, which is a far bigger job than the roof fault itself.
There are three survey packages: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, with VAT included. What your roof costs depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.

What we do, step by step
The visit normally starts outside and finishes in the loft: first the slopes, edges and gutters from every safe viewpoint, then the loft space where it can be reached. In total, it takes about 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. For a visit in Tyburn, parking and access are the things to plan: tell us about permits, visitor bays or off-street space, which floor the property is on and how to get into the loft. On the day, the roof is looked at from the ground, from windows, from inside the roof space and from the roof where it’s safe.
- First, we check whether a drone is the right tool.
- We agree a date, including weekends, subject to the weather.
- We fly over the roof, keeping the camera on the property we’re surveying.
- We also look inside the loft space where it’s safe.
- The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.
Before we arrive
- Clear the way to the loft hatch
- Unlock side gates and any roof access doors
- Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller

DIY checks: what’s safe
A DIY look is useful, but it isn’t a survey. You won’t see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground.
You can learn a lot from ground level. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please do not climb up for a closer look.
Useful tips for Tyburn property owners
Small things make a difference. Some pointers:
- Allow time for permission if you are in a flight restriction zone
- Tell next door if the drone will be near their property
- Clear a spot on the drive or lawn
- Allow for a change of day in poor weather
The Premium Survey includes an in-person consultation to go through what the drone showed. You can ask about anything that isn’t clear.
Don’t block the vents at the eaves. Poor airflow lets condensation build up, and it is something only an inside check will show. Check insulation does not block the airflow.
When you need someone else
To be straight with you, a roof survey has limits:
- Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
- The underside of the roof (that needs an inside check)
- Structural calculations (that is a structural engineer’s job)
If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll suggest the right survey before you book. What a survey covers and doesn’t.

What else we do in Tyburn
Airspace, weather and Tyburn roofs
Tyburn is about 1 mile from the restricted area over Hyde Park, where drone flights need permission from NATS. If a roof falls inside it, we apply for permission before flying, and the flight only goes ahead if it’s granted. Close to the centre of London, a great many houses are Victorian or Edwardian terraces, many of them roofed in Welsh slate. Behind many of their parapets sit butterfly roofs and valley gutters that cannot be seen from the pavement. Shared chimney stacks, party-wall upstands and lead work come with this kind of house. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from ground level, drone photos and thermal images add detail.
For an older house near a landmark such as Church of the Annunciation, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help. Tyburn is in London, so parking needs planning: let us know about permits, visitor bays or off-street space as you book, as a space near the door cannot be promised.

Questions from Tyburn
Is parking a problem for a survey in Tyburn?
London parking needs a little planning, so let us know about permits, bays or a driveway when you book. The visit is then planned around what’s available.
Is drone flying allowed in Tyburn?
The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. Tyburn is about 1 mile from the edge of the flight restriction zone around London Heliport in Battersea. The exact boundary is checked for each address before any flight, and a roof inside it needs permission before we fly. The restricted area over Hyde Park, where drone flights need permission from NATS, is about 1 mile from Tyburn. If a roof falls inside it, we apply for permission before flying, and the flight only goes ahead if it’s granted. Across London there are restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, plus restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Each address is checked against all of them before the drone goes up. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain.
