Mayfair Drone Roof Survey

Close-up drone photographs of roofs that are hard to reach for Mayfair and the rest of Greater London. We survey on any day of the week.

  • Lead work pulling away at abutments
  • Chimney tops in poor condition
  • Blistered or cracked flat roof coverings

What we look for on each type of roof

Large commercial roofs

Large commercial roofs cover a lot of ground. A drone photographs the whole surface methodically.

Valleys and parapet gutters

When a parapet outlet blocks, water can come inside. Outlets and any debris around them are photographed.

Drone roof survey in Mayfair: what you get

Every flight starts with an airspace check. Near protected airports such as Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Luton, flight restriction zones mean permission is needed first. Central London has restricted areas of its own, which need NATS permission. If permission isn’t given, we inspect by other means and tell you. Prison sites also have drone restriction zones. If you are worried about wind damage high on the roof and flashings that have come away, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on tall and steep roofs, chimney stacks and fragile roofs alike.

In London’s terraces and conversions, roofs are packed close together, so privacy and neighbours matter as much as the view. Images are taken to show the roof we are surveying, with care for neighbours’ privacy. Let us know about the building and access as you book. Steep slopes, tall chimneys and rear additions are where the extra view helps most.

The report is yours to share with whoever needs it: your solicitor, the seller, your insurer, a roofer or the building’s managing agent.

Flying and imaging in Mayfair

Mayfair is about 1 mile from the restricted area over Hyde Park, where drone flights need permission from NATS. If a roof falls inside it, we apply for permission before flying, and the flight only goes ahead if it is granted. Mayfair has a number of hotels within about a mile and a half. If you look after one, a large roof can be surveyed without guests having anyone working above them.

Mayfair is in London, so parking needs planning: a visitor permit or a nearby bay makes the day easier, as a space near the door can’t be promised. If you look after a shop, office or commercial unit, for example near Kingly Court, big, flat commercial roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help most.

Mayfair is about 1 mile south-east of City of Westminster, in Greater London. Anywhere in Mayfair, we can come and survey your property, on a weekday, Saturday or Sunday. We cover towns and villages across Greater London.

Drone roof surveys in W1K, W1F and W1U work the same way as everywhere else we cover. Streets in the area include Park Lane, Bruton Lane and Market Mews, all of which we cover. Mayfair sits on or near the A4201 and A4202, so getting to you is simple. If you are just outside Mayfair, we cover Burlington Estate (1 mile east), City of Westminster (1 mile north-west), Marylebone (1 mile north), St James's (1 mile east) and Chinatown (1 mile east). Larger places within reach include Shoreditch (3 miles east), Walthamstow (7 miles north-east), Hoxton (3 miles north-east), Whitechapel (3 miles east), Hampstead (3 miles north-west) and Ruislip (12 miles west).

Around Mayfair

We work in homes and buildings around Royal College of Nursing Library & Museum, Coach and Horses pub and St George's Church of England Primary School. You’ll also find Green Park (0.5 miles south) and The St Marylebone CofE School (0.8 miles north). Mayfair has its own railway station: Bond Street station. Nearby you will also find Montfichet's Tower (2 miles east) and London Eye Hospital (0.5 miles north). The countryside around Mayfair includes Ludgate Hill and St. James's Park Lake.

How it works

We work from the outside in: first the slopes, edges and gutters from every safe viewpoint, then the roof space where it can be reached. In total, it takes about one to two hours for a house, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. Many London properties are flats or terraces with no side access, so the back of the roof is frequently seen from upstairs windows, from inside or, where a flight is allowed, from the air. If the building has a managing agent or access rules, tell us as you book.

  1. You give us the address and let us know about the roof.
  2. Any flight restriction at the address is looked at, with permission requested if required.
  3. On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
  4. The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
  5. The findings, photos and recommendations reach you by email.

Mayfair questions

Can parking be tricky for a visit in Mayfair?

It depends on the street. If Mayfair has controlled parking where you are, a visitor permit is the easiest answer, and a driveway is even better.

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Mayfair?

It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. The flight restriction zone around London Heliport in Battersea comes within about 1 mile of Mayfair. We check the exact boundary for the address before flying, and if the roof falls inside it, we ask for permission first. Mayfair is about 1 mile from the restricted area over Hyde Park, where drone flights need permission from NATS. We check whether the address falls inside it, and if it does we apply for permission, which isn’t always given. Across London there are restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, plus restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Every London address is checked against them before a flight. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

Do you work in Mayfair?

Yes. We survey roofs across London and South East England, and that includes Mayfair.

How long will you be at the property?

That depends on the size and shape of the roof; most visits take between one and two hours at most homes, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. The report is sent afterwards by email.

Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?

No. We look at the roof, not the whole building, and it isn’t a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. It can sit alongside a RICS survey if you want both.

I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?

Yes. A shared roof needs access agreed first. Mention it when you contact us and we will explain what’s needed.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

Visits run seven days a week in the daytime. Just say which days work for you.

What you can safely check yourself

You can learn a lot from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Never climb onto the roof to look.

A DIY look is useful, but it isn’t a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground, and those are details a survey looks at closely.

What affects the cost of drone roof surveys

A few things affect what a survey costs:

  • House, block, shop or office
  • If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
  • How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
  • Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages

A Basic Survey starts from £150, with VAT included. Standard is from £250 and Premium from £400, both including VAT. We confirm the price for the job before booking.

What to let us know when you contact us

A little information up front helps. Please include:

  • The address and postcode of the property
  • Your timetable, such as an exchange date
  • Anything about access we should know
  • Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work

If you’re buying, it’s useful to book soon after your offer is accepted, so there is time to use the report before exchange. For any other survey, just ring 07833 053749 or send us an email when you’re ready.

When to book a survey in Mayfair

Parapet gutters, box gutters and central valleys sit out of sight. Leaves, silt and plant growth build up unseen, until it causes a leak inside. From above, they’re easy to see.

Most people get in touch after spotting one of these:

  • Storm damage on steep or tall roofs
  • Cracked mortar along the ridge
  • Gaps where slates or tiles have gone
  • Moss and weeds taking hold up top

Handel Hendrix House, about 0.2 miles north, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Mayfair. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from ground level, and a survey from above or with a thermal imager doesn’t touch the roof itself.

Choosing a roof surveyor

  • Whether the loft space is looked at, where there is one
  • How soon the report will arrive
  • How long they’ve been surveying roofs
  • Whether you get a written report with photos
